A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Hey everybody! Getting it all set up for you!
Hi in advance!
I might be furiously flipping switches, etc, so might be sparse on here until it's off the ground.

Hi geezerette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Martinibomb!
  7:15pm Martinibomb:

fun to see the protest but man they were pissing drivers off hilarious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Mr Fab:

in my '90s free-jazz phase, i was fairly obsessed with Pharoah. Saw him live, and he still blew like a mutha. May I request "Country Mile" off this album? haven't heard it in ages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Rich in Washington:

Sure! I'll work it in later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Rich in Washington:

My 90s Axiom label/Laswell phase. Has it aged well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Mr Fab:

This album came out 25 years ago?! That just hurts me to think about...
  7:20pm Martinibomb:

^ i feel old man like 25 years flew by
  7:22pm Martinibomb:

Don-O 's stream have any issues today? I didn't get to listen as much as I wanted
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Rich in Washington:

If anyone can make a guitar SKRONK it's Sonny Sharronk, er, I mean Sharrock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Mr Fab:

No probs with Don-O's show, It went perfectly today.
  7:23pm CC:

The older you get 25 years will seem just like last week!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Rich in Washington:

Indeed! he got his mojo workin'.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Aitch:

Axiom label/Laswell phase is good. Bootsy's Zillatron a fave. And the Buckethead colabs, wild stuff
Avatar 7:24pm ARB:

This show is the antithesis of anhedonia so far...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Rich in Washington:

That's what I was shootin' for ARB! Glad to hear!
  7:25pm Martinibomb:

the new Ultraman series is premiering in an hour - simulcast w/english subtitles on their youtube channel.. so excited. Yes I love ultraman
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Rich in Washington:

I endorse watching it with the sound off during my show. I'll try to soundtrack it appropriately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Rich in Washington:

Aitch, I nearly grabbed Zillatron. Any particular track?
  7:27pm Martinibomb:

It's not like you need the sound -- just gotta read the subtitles so yessss u get to be the soundtrack to the new Ultraman Z
Avatar 7:29pm geezerette:

ARB, agree. More like bliss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm solo mon:

Zillatron oh gosh haven’t heard that for wverrr
  7:32pm CC:

That sounds like the chick who sings for Chick Corea???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Rich in Washington:

Yes, I believe she did. And for Miles on some pieces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Rich in Washington:

Airtoo Moriera's spouse, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm StringOFperils:

Ha ha. Yup, it's that chick. Light As A Feather etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Mr Fab:

yep, Flora purim, Brazilian legend. Seen her perform with her master percussionist husband Airto (who also played in the Miles axis)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Rich in Washington:

Ernest Hood plays zither on this album.
  7:33pm CC:

Mmmm...nice!!!
Avatar 7:33pm ironybread:

Chick Corea circa 1967-1970 is total peace comfort happiness place
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Mr Fab:

Wha..? Jazz zither? Again, i can't tell if you're joking or not, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Rich in Washington:

Hi ironybread!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, there's a zither freakout on this track. Ernie. He played on more than one Flora album.
  7:36pm Martinibomb:

the bass on this track is boss
  7:37pm Martinibomb:

so many shitty bass players yet the bass is pretty cool - holding down the tonal center while keepin' it funkay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Rich in Washington:

yeah, I had this looped on my Koass Pad for several hours and never got tired of it. It's Stanley Clarke.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:37pm ultradamno:

It's not just everybody that would freak out on a zither. On a autoharp, sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm StringOFperils:

Clarke used an Alembic bass. You can program certain individual string voicings....an early synth controller
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Rich in Washington:

Ernie could.
  7:38pm CC:

These kind of cuts fit in perfect with Billy Cobham from that era!!!
  7:39pm Martinibomb:

this shit is just so damn killer doesn't get better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm Rich in Washington:

This was my first post-covid lockdown goodwill find.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm solo mon:

Bonghitters lung has really payed off thanks for the flora!
  7:41pm Martinibomb:

I almost went into Mississippi Records today but I only had $3 cash on me.. should have hit the $1 bin I suppose.. anyway it was open
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Rich in Washington:

I wonder if Toody's is also open.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm StringOFperils:

Sounds like my financial landscape.
  7:41pm Martinibomb:

@sol u ever shop at Cherry Sprout? I love that place
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm StringOFperils:

This is a great Goodwill store find. Could that cover be any uglier tho? Jeez.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm solo mon:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:44pm ultradamno:

I've heard some pretty wild koto freak outs, come to think of it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm solo mon:

Gorgeous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Rich in Washington:

So is Crossroads. The owner posts some hilarious rants about his customers. Not his regulars, but the kind of clueless people who wander into record stores and ask stupid questions, made all the worse by him requiring people to wear masks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Rich in Washington:

Music Millennium is also open.
Avatar 7:46pm ironybread:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm solo mon:

Avatar 7:49pm ARB:

I like how you've made T.A.Z. into a serial this past month!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm joe:

Pretty much everything Laswell put out on Axiom was pretty damn cool. I got turned on to it and Laswell when he put out the first Praxis album. Still one of my favorites
Avatar 7:50pm ironybread:

Good evening, Rich.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Rich in Washington:

Hi βrian!
Avatar 7:54pm ARB:

Yes, but I see it on the homepage now, seems like it started early
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Rich in Washington:

That's good news, StringOFperils!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm StringOFperils:

Ah, that wasn't there a while ago. Hmmm. Could be.
Avatar 7:56pm ironybread:

Wow, just realized this heavy and interesting stuff was done by the same guy who did "A Real Tong Funeral" with Carla Bley
  7:57pm CC:

In song swells there of Rhythm telling out it's Counted time...dwelling ever on it's Cadence ringing out it's rhythmic rhyme...so sweet a heartbeat So Divine throbs forever in thine bosom never far away from mine...a pulse so sensitive to life...oh love and hence, we'll rise above this tragedy of strife...etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm StringOFperils:

Ichiban, whiach it isn't supposed to be called, isn't on the main page, LISTEN NOW, menu. Not presently at least. Kenzo might be rebuilding something.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:59pm ultradamno:

On the app, it says 'rock and soul radio' now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Rich in Washington:

There is a piece on the Tong on this CD. Maybe I'll play it next week, keeping with the serial concept!
Avatar 7:59pm ARB:

ahh, it briefly was, or was I in the black lodge of former ichiban
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Rich in Washington:

It's phantom radio stream syndrome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm StringOFperils:

They're re-wiring Spock's brain....I'm going with Sunday, for the launch. It's WFMU. It's 2020. Anything can happen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm Rich in Washington:

How's this color scheme treating everyone's cones and rods? I find it rather soothing, myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm StringOFperils:

This colour scheme is swanky. Reminds me of black-light.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm joe:

@Rich it works. I have to agree it is a pretty soothing combination.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm joe:

I believe it is Saturday at 9am is the plan
Avatar 8:05pm βrian:

I'd think the scheme would be a bit UI-unfriendly, but the contrast is sharp enough for my tired eyes. It works.
  8:05pm CC:

I like aquamarine for text on black???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm StringOFperils:

The plan is always what ya gotta watch out for. The plan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm joe:

@Rich just keep proving my statement about the quality of releases on Axiom :)
Avatar 8:06pm ironybread:

The Internet told me today that the first Jurassic 5 CD is 20 years old today. I AM OLD but I dont' care, what's good stays good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm joe:

Also have to credit Axiom with introducing me to James Koehnline whose art work I can get lost in for hours on end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm StringOFperils:

Saturday @ 9 AM. That is what it says now. Okay. The plan.
  8:08pm CC:

I feel like watching it's a mad mad mad mad world?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Rich in Washington:

It's a Mad Mad Mad Max Fury Road.
  8:09pm CC:

I'll save it for later!!!...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Mr Fab:

it's the "Masters of Reality" color combo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Rich in Washington:

I'm going to go buy some Szechuan food for friends now, have a good show Rich!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm Rich in Washington:

Get your Szechuan on! See you later!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Kat in Chicago:

Haha Rich, remind me to tell you how Al Jourgensen and I ended up on a Phil Donahue panel in the early 80s. Actually you can find it on YouTube. I can't watch it, it's too weird for me. I'm told I have the exact same voice now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Rich in Washington:

Oh my god! I haveta see that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm joe:

@kat I think I've actually watched that. :)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:34pm Kat in Chicago:

@joe many people have!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Rich in Washington:

I love that really long shambolic live performance Revco video and it's fun to guess which drugs individual members are on.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Aitch:

all on all of them
  8:37pm CC:

Killer cut!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Rich in Washington:

I almost played the live one, which is my favorite, but this LP doesn't get the love it deserves, imo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Mr Fab:

I had ALL these Ministry-and-related albums you're playing now Rich. used to blast 'em in my youth. it's a miracle I have any hearing left. (i could play this drum pattern on my brother's drum kit, too.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Mr Fab:

Well, I'll be looking for THAT episode of Donahue. i'm sure you're totally cool in it, Kat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm joe:

I have to chuckle at how fast some of the Ministry stuff seemed almost 30 years ago compared to when I hear it now and being exposed to some really crazy stuff after the fact.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Aitch:

Sounds of my 80's share houses. There was Gaye Bikers on Acid there somewhere to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm joe:

My friends and I lived on all this stuff for like a year.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Kat in Chicago:

It's always hilarious when someone I know stumbles across it and they're all like OMIGOD KAT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm joe:

@Aitch I just listened to Stewed To the Gills yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Mr Fab:

Aitch: if Ministry & Co were British, would they be "grebo"?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm Aitch:

I'm Australian, not sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm joe:

I didn't even know grebo was a thing until a couple of years ago and I listened to a lot of the bands that fell into that, but had no idea there was a bonding agent of some sort.
  8:47pm CC:

Happy Christmas and a very merry Grebo!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm Mr Fab:

i don't think it was a real genre, just one of those things Brit music writers would throw out. Some don't stick ("nu-rave" anyone?), but unfortunately some really dumb ones like "krautrock" or "shoegaze" do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm Mr Fab:

i don't mean "krautrock" music was dumb, just the name. nah, love the music.
  8:53pm CC:

Labels are misleading!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm joe:

@Mr. Fab totally got ya. Honestly is a label that I'm surprised has not caused more of backlash
  8:55pm CC:

To me, the term grunge meant the revival of real raw rock and roll..!..
  8:57pm ARB:

Thanks for muting my anhedonia for 2 hours Rich
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:57pm ultradamno:

In the documentary Autoluminescent Nick Cave complains a lot about the way the British press would write about The Birthday Party on the basis of being Aus., "sound like they spent too much time in the bush" etc. Same kind of provincialism that gave birth to that term (even though Faust originally coined it, not expecting it to become what it did)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Rich in Washington:

We have the power to mute it. Thanks for listening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Mr Fab:

I thought Faust's use was parody? But I dunno.

Gotta run, so thanks muchly, Rich. Sheenas Jungle Room: home of the grebo revival! Bye, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm joe:

Thank you for a great time Rich
  8:59pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

whilst largely away from the board during this beautiful midsummer night, I was listening and gotta thank you for a rather interesting set.
  8:59pm CC:

Whatever she sings I have to agree with even though I might not understand it!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm joe:

That was always my impression of Faust's use as well.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm ultradamno:

It was, but my understanding is it came before the press got hold of it (there's an interview with Zappi out there where he says basically that)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm joe:

The music press (English specifically) had such a back handed way of cutting things down in way that most of time many people started out agreeing with them before the realized they were actually be facetious . Just like that guy in the records store.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:02pm ultradamno:

WD: It was joke that. During the war, the Germans were called "the krauts" as they used to eat "Sauerkraut." That is why we called a title of ours "Krautrock." Later, the British music industry established a new genre for german music, called "Krautrock." furious.com...
  9:03pm CC:

Thanks Rich!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Rich in Washington:
