A two-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Hi!
Hope you all stayed on for my show!
I'll be with you shortly.
Avatar 6:43pm StringOFperils:

Still here, yes. I have no f***ing idea what I'm listening to, but hey, I have a can of beer on the go and no plans, so....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Rich in Washington:

YAY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Rich in Washington:

Don-O's taking next week off, so I will be filling in, doing a three hour show next week.
Avatar 6:46pm Mayuko:

Just got on Sheena's stream, couldn't tell what was happening for a bit. Jason was having connection issue this morning too. Hope it'll work out for you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Otis Fodder:

Cooking up some pasta for supper and listening to the mysterious vortex crap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Rich in Washington:

I think it'll be fine. I've got a pretty stable connection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Mayuko!
Hi Otis!
Avatar 6:48pm StringOFperils:

Mayuko, nice to see you. I enjoy listening to your show. Hope your relocation is going well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Rich in Washington:

Miss your show, Mayuko! Similarly, hope everything's going well with you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Rich in Washington:

it's getting hot in here. I have to shut fans down, etc.
Avatar 6:50pm Mayuko:

@StringOFperils @Rich aw thanks! Still got some stuff to figure out, like buying a car (for the first time! SO complicated) but loving the new place!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Rich in Washington:

This is actually a good show, this Don-O backup show. I want to know more about this cassette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Rich in Washington:

Oh boy! Buying a car! My FAVORITE thing - NOT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Rich in Washington:

Going back to the Jason thing. Not sure what his internet situation is. It's really touch and go like Don-O's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Rich in Washington:

Going to start shortly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Aitch:

Wild stuff on this fill-in tape. Looking forward to dig some Lung
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Aitch! Glad you could join us!
Avatar 6:56pm Mayuko:

I do hope Jason will have Martinibomb rescue him and his internet! Sounded to me a good idea...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Rich in Washington:

yeah, Martinibomb's a lifesaver! Three cheers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Otis Fodder:

Hour of Crap marathon shows mixed with the live stream mixed with new shows is not what is wanted... but... it's a hit in the 4th dimension now available in this vortex!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Aitch:

Quite the vortex that

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Otis Fodder:

Hello fellow diggers of music and pasta, for both shall meet and mingle in my ears and tummy shortly.
Avatar 7:01pm StringOFperils:

Wow. How insidious is this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Otis Fodder:

This is like rosicrucian level batshit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm ultradamno:

The cover looks shiny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Otis Fodder:

The children look scared on the cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Aitch:

Wish I'd known of this when the kids were little
Avatar 7:03pm StringOFperils:

Ha ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm ultradamno:

Is the point to play this while they sleep?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Otis Fodder:

Maybe we all had this as children, blocked it out and is the reason we found WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Rich in Washington:

Hi everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm Otis Fodder:

Still listening, must see a pot about boiling, back on chat shortly.
Avatar 7:04pm StringOFperils:

Your sloppy little sister must go to the cornfield. She must. Help her now. Take her to the cornfield. Remember. We love you.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm ultradamno:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Rich in Washington:

Glad you could all join me today!
Avatar 7:08pm StringOFperils:

Sure as hell hope this isn't effective. If I wake up in the middle of the night scrubbing the toilet, I'm coming back here for a little chat...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm filthicanth∅:

i'm not very proud of myself right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Rich in Washington:

There is a whole record in this series on bedwetting. Is it bad that I want that record too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Rich in Washington:

HA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm joe:

I'm listening to this while going through unlabeled Japanese pro wrestling DVDs. What a contrast
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm ultradamno:

Sub-Audio? That does mean you play it while they sleep, doesn't it?

That cover pic is more disturbing the more I stare at it without blinking.

I should go shower.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Rich in Washington:

I think so, ultradamno. Or when they're zonked out on benedryl or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm joe:

"...zonked out on benedryl " or as my wife calls it "riding the pink dragon"
Avatar 7:10pm Martinibomb:

I've been catching up on work and missed Don-O's show were there any issues today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Aitch:

I hope there wasn't a Dom-Audio, this is scary enough
Avatar 7:12pm StringOFperils:

The children are upside-down on that LP cover.

Avatar 7:22pm StringOFperils:

That guy has killin' for Jesus in his eyes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm ultradamno:

Definitely a guy with 'LOVE' and 'HATE' written on his fingers.
Avatar 7:24pm Photochop y Cha Cha:

Hey there! Crap, i missed the first 22 minutes or so, I was so happy about GG playing my Blues Section requests I listened to some of their 1967 debut and forgot to tune in on time.
Avatar 7:26pm solo mon:

Subconscious audio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm ultradamno:

Lorne's special feelings about guns were starting to make me uncomfortable anyway.
Avatar 7:27pm StringOFperils:

Some World's Worst Records fare. Hah. funny that of all label names, this one's on SALEM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm ultradamno:

Someone has played this while murdering children. Of this I have no doubt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm ultradamno:

Heathen? Had that one locked and loaded right out of the gate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm ultradamno:

Santa...speaking of pagans.
Avatar 7:30pm StringOFperils:

Our heathen foes. They're out there. In the hedge.
Avatar 7:30pm solo mon:

Oh, Christ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm ultradamno:

Man, you are really competing with Micah for this set. Love it.
Avatar 7:31pm StringOFperils:

It's Alfred E. Newman. On ice.
Avatar 7:31pm solo mon:

Let’s all drink mushroom pee that comes from reindeer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm ultradamno:

Well, it depends, if God stays off the property he'll be fine...
Avatar 7:34pm solo mon:

Who wants to die for art?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm ultradamno:

And now he's been shot. Don't show up in the house unexpected in a stand your ground state, Jesus.
Avatar 7:35pm solo mon:

I have a version of this w more vigorous reading
Avatar 7:35pm StringOFperils:

Gonna forward this playlist to Darryl @World's Worst Records on Wednesday. If he hasn't heard this, he needs to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm joe:

Oh that awkward moment when Jesus tells THAT joke at the dinner table and you have to decide if you should just shrug it off or call him out for inappropriateness
Avatar 7:36pm solo mon:

Jesus came!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm ultradamno:

Would you cancel the key party, or be a good host and ask him to join in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm ultradamno:

Did he attend fast sunday school?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm joe:

Oh Jesus the eternal host
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm ultradamno:

He boasted about traffic tickets? Late for the drugs and sex, I guess.
Avatar 7:39pm StringOFperils:

Why is the preacher hanging out in the drive-in parking lot?
Avatar 7:39pm solo mon:

2 kinds of speed he must be from oregon
Avatar 7:39pm solo mon:

He’s not methin around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm ultradamno:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm joe:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm ultradamno:

Urge to kill...rising.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm Aitch:

release the cats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm ultradamno:

I think God was talking about the planet and they just went off on abortion again.
Avatar 7:45pm Photochop y Cha Cha:

if you play the whole set backwards then I am even more scared
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm ultradamno:

My math skills aren't anything to brag about but...The Dan Schaeffer 3?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm ultradamno:

Avatar 7:49pm solo mon:

Or like those bondage magazines they print on Taschen
  7:51pm CC:

Have a popsicle Rich!!!
Avatar 7:51pm StringOFperils:

I remember that comic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm ultradamno:

Jesus, of all people, would get bondage. I was thinking of things even porn shops have to sell under the counter.
Avatar 7:52pm StringOFperils:

The Crown of Thorns was a popular item.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm ultradamno:

Thalidomusic for Young Babies really should be followed up with Flipper
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm joe:

Have to Bail It has been a great show Rich
Avatar 7:55pm solo mon:

“Did Jesus have a safe word?” Stay tuned for the thrilling sequel to “if Jesus came to your house.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Rich in Washington:

See ya, joe! Thanks for listening!
Avatar 7:56pm solo mon:

Bye joe! Have a great weekend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Rich in Washington:

I'm doing an extra hour next week, and it's the day before 4th of July. I think I'll do a blowout of all my patriotic records. What do you think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Rich in Washington:

CC @7:51: I wish I HAD a popsicle!
Avatar 7:59pm Photochop y Cha Cha:

@7:58 Rich in Washington: sounds like a scary opportunity
Avatar 7:59pm StringOFperils:

The Ship of State's goin' down. Now or never.
Avatar 8:00pm StringOFperils:

I think I just said one of those things I'm not supposed to. Srry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Aitch:

Thalidomusic For Young Babies?? Can listening cause deformities?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm Rich in Washington:

I am digging this. It reminds me a little of early Cabaret Voltaire.
  8:01pm CC:

Popsicles always make you feel good for a little while!!!...:)
Avatar 8:02pm StringOFperils:

Same time period. The ultra-bleak early 80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm Rich in Washington:

On the back of the original cassette art, it says "not for sale to mongoloids". Tamburini was a sick puppy. His comics were really depraved.
Avatar 8:02pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm Rich in Washington:

HA!
Avatar 8:05pm solo mon:

String it’s ok we can all hope!
Avatar 8:08pm StringOFperils:

Yes, Solo Mon. We have to hope, and be active enough to go out and vote at least. I'm actually in the adjacent country to the north, where politics aren't completely dissimilar....but I feel like an arse when I lob that stuff into the American arena from out here....bad taste.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Rich in Washington:

Hi spodiodi!
  8:09pm CC:

SOP.... I remember when I felt that Ronald Reagan was the worst thing that could ever happen to America...
Avatar 8:10pm StringOFperils:

Yeah, and when Dubya was the worst President ever.....sigh.
Avatar 8:10pm solo mon:

Yeah Ronnie and Bush were just the amuse bouche, now we have the hanmburdler
  8:10pm CC:

Yep!!!
Avatar 8:11pm StringOFperils:

Or Mayor McCheese. He's gotta be oranger. Is oranger a word?
Avatar 8:11pm solo mon:

And his speeches like he’s headlining a Laff factory in 1996

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm ultradamno:

I have a couple of books of comix SJB did under the name of a triangle with a slash through it. Really nice stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm ultradamno:

Discrete Ephemera was the name of one of them.
  8:14pm CC:

Definitely a William Burroughs understudy...
Avatar 8:14pm StringOFperils:

I think I used to have the video for this on a VHS tape way back when.
Avatar 8:14pm StringOFperils:

Thanks ultradamno. Might look for that.
Avatar 8:14pm solo mon:

Wasn’t there a band from 90s called oranger?
Avatar 8:16pm Photochop y Cha Cha:

my favorite flipper moment is the video of the Kezar Pavilion gig (w/Throbbing Gristle) where ted falconi smashes his guitar and a very worried-looking Genesis P-Orridge reluctantly agrees to lend Will Shatter his bass.
Avatar 8:17pm StringOFperils:

A borrower named Will Shatter isn't very reassuring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm ultradamno:

Here's a prohibitively priced listing of the initial metal bound issue (later ones, like mine, were in cloth) www.ebay.com...
Avatar 8:18pm StringOFperils:

Wow.
Avatar 8:21pm StringOFperils:

I used to see John Oswald around. He's a friend of my ex-piano teacher...the alt/avant art-music types. (and no, I'm not playing really, these days.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Rich in Washington:

I always wondered what he's doing now. Huge fan of his stuff.
Avatar 8:23pm solo mon:

Rich I listened to both your other shows this week! All great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, solo mon! I appreciate it! Hope the overlap isn't annoying.
Avatar 8:24pm solo mon:

I just can’t believe so lucky- I got to hear the subconscious audio record twice.
Avatar 8:25pm solo mon:

Nah it’s just “this week in Rich” overlap is necessary.
Avatar 8:26pm solo mon:

I feel clean, I wash I clean

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Rich in Washington:

I used to love to make crazy cassette pause tapes.

  8:32pm CC:

Lever...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Rich in Washington:

Please do, ironybread!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm Rich in Washington:

I had several tapes of crazy cutup stuff and I foolishly gave the originals to some guy who was going to start a label and then I abruptly lost contact with him, then learned later that he had died, and his wife threw all his cassette stuff in a dumpster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm Rich in Washington:

This is my favorite bit.
  8:37pm CC:

That girl sounded stuck there for a minute...hahaha...
Avatar 8:38pm StringOFperils:

@Rich: Oswald does (is doing) occasional 'dates' around here...at the Conservatory of Music for instance, and also probably internationally. Musicians like him are always doing work. Artistically, it's so arcane that. although it continues ,the scene is sort of under the radar. A lot of individual and collaborative projects happen, and the artists survive on grants, patronage by wealthy benfactors, etc.....I don't know what the nature of Oswald's work is presently though it relates to open-ended ideas of art. Noise as it relates to space. Stuff like this:
torontobiennial.org...
Avatar 8:38pm ironybread:

Wobbly sez John's "gearing up for a massive online version of 'Plexure' that includes all the different versions across the years. every single 3 years, it had basically become a completely different piece"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Otis Fodder:

Still here, was... eating pasta with a fark.. or kissing jesus in the dark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Rich in Washington:

I have some of his actual composed, more traditional music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Rich in Washington:

Whoa! That's cool, ironybread!
Avatar 8:41pm ironybread:

I met John just for a second at a performance at Redcat here in L.A. several years ago. Matt Groening was there - he was an early fan of Plunderphonic. John asked Matt "So how you been?"" and Matt said "Oh, pretty good - I won the cartoon lottery!"
Avatar 8:42pm StringOFperils:

Hah. Yeah, can't fare much better as a cartoonist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Rich in Washington:

He certainly did.
Avatar 8:43pm ironybread:

I wish Fony / John / "Mystery Tapes" would release more of the Mystery Tapes collections on Bandcamp - but in the meantime the curious can pick them up at detritus.net
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Rich in Washington:

yeah, this was from Bandcamp, just recently, in fact.
  8:44pm CC:

This is very 'primal' sounding!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Rich in Washington:
