A couple of my colleagues who were clearly working were roughed up by police during protests in Manhattan earlier this week. I don't think highly of fascist bullies in general.

You aren't late. I'm late. Good morning, Doug and radio pals
Avatar 9:17am Listener Gregory:

I caught your Mingus reference at the opening, Doug. Nice! I find it reassuring that Governor Faubus's foolish hatefulness will be remembered for as long as music is played.
  9:18am Gina Bacon:

Morning, drummerstreamers!

Good morning, all! So good to be here!
  9:18am bigplanetnoise:

Morning, gfb!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, Listener Gregory! Welcome, fleep!

Actually, late in life, Orval Faubus somewhat repented and reformed. Here's a piece I wrote about Mingus and Faubus for the WFMU blog: blog.wfmu.org...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am WR:

It can be hard to not demonize all police, to separate bad police behavior and institutional injustice and the action of individuals who have been given power from those who are not bad actors. Changes needed are both broad and specific. Punishing the "bad cops", yes, but also major social transformations. Err. This soap box is a little too high and narrow some one clumsy with big feet like me. I'll set down now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am WR:

And please pardon me for ranting before sending out greetings and salutations to fellow drummers.
  9:25am Gina Bacon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Listener Bob in PGH:

Good morning one and all! Looking forward to some good vibes!!!
Avatar 9:28am Really Lisa:

Hello Gina, hope you are well!
Avatar 9:28am StringOFperils:

@WR. The exercise of might over others goes back to animal roots. How we learn that tame that beast and learn to be one happy family remains unseen. It goes well beyond policing. It's an unwieldy burden for any one person to take on intellectually, and a very complicated global one at that. It has a long history that's braided together with so-called civilization. Fortunately, so does art and music, so we also carry a bright promise on the inside. No quick fix for the bad stuff I'm afraid.
  9:32am Gina Bacon:

You too, Lisa! Nice to see you again!

Quick hi, Drummers, bit busy, loving the music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Webhamster Henry:

Hi Drummers!
Avatar 9:57am StringOFperils:

True, in the sense of having that much latitude to coddle one's ego at leisure, I guess. All of that constant worrying about being right seems to play into our common problem too. Being a chimpanzee is a house of mirrors. (Possibly the stupidest mixed metaphor I've ever come up with.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Brian in UK:

Small consolation that we are all marching to the beat of the same drummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Webhamster Henry:

There's nice BLM graffitti in chalk all around my street and sidewalks. We had a big march on Wednesday here in Kingston, estimated at 1500-3000 because it was too big accurately to count.
Avatar 10:02am Marc Francis:

Howdy, thedunkel! doctorjazz! Webhamster Henry!
Avatar 10:06am Listener Gregory:

Striking how well recorded this David Murray is. I can hear every instrument (unless there is also an inaudible string orchestra).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Doug Schulkind:

Welcome home, Marc Francis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Doug Schulkind:

Me too, Sir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
Characteristic of Black Saint recordings in general. I think somebody was flying Rudy Van Gelder to Milano where these were recorded.
Avatar 10:10am StringOFperils:

From the session mastering, right on down to the vinyl pressing, and sleeve quality, the Italian label Black Saint and its sister label Soul Note never issued anything less than the best. ECM and Blue Note are the only other labels I've encountered that seemed to attempt nothing less than objets 'dart.
Avatar 10:11am StringOFperils:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am chresti:

Hi MB, gotta have that coffee.
Avatar 10:22am StringOFperils:

@Gina > I think it would be fascinating to speak with Butch Morris, not that the enthusiasm would be reciprocal. Experienced that music/experiment live only once, at the newer Knitting Factory, and he seemed scary-intense.

Ramblin' Ray, hey hey! Martinibobm, kaboom! solo mon, hurrah! chresti, bestie from the westie!

I'll bet we'd recognize each other, Doug! I loved that place. I still mourn for the best mixtape I ever made being stolen along with the stereo one night.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

hey, rw!

Despite the unrest in the USA there is always someone worse off. Whilst the US were supporting local ground forces in Syria, life in Raqqa was unimaginable. This is a tale by one brave soul risking his life; this was written the year before it was announced that US forces were to be withdrawn, leaving the Kurds to fend for themselves. A harrowing read.
