Avatar 12:07am sv:

hey ike & chresti ! how's tricks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am PigeonsAndRust:

I just got home from my own air shift on a tiny station. Now sitting on the front porch in the dark soaking up infrared propane heat, and your show. A great combination for the Pepsi generation
Avatar 12:09am sv:

right on, p&r - how was your show?
Avatar 12:12am sv:

read about this ivo malec in that amazing tone glow interview with jim o'rourke the other day - highly recommended reading if you haven't gotten to it toneglow.substack.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am Aitch:

Creepy sounds sv, as we like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am PigeonsAndRust:

Fun as always! Thanks for asking
Avatar 12:15am sv:

thanks, aitch - i had every intention of tonight's show being upbeat and that went out the window pretty quick once i started
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...hey man!
Avatar 12:16am sv:

howdy, pump, what's goin' on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am PigeonsAndRust:

Right now all I hear is your show, a hissing heater, and a barred owl hooting in the distance. Perfection.
Avatar 12:21am sv:

honestly wish that's how i was hearing the show right now - i love some environmental additions to music

Avatar 12:42am sv:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am WillCrete:

Thanks for the music tonight SV!
@PigeonsAndRust: a barred owl just called out here in Illinois now, the rain having come to a pause
Avatar 12:49am sv:

hey will, thanks for tuning in! where ya listening from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am WillCrete:

@SV: glad to be listening tonight. I'm tuning in from the southern edge of Chicagoland, the village of Crete, IL.
Digging the fretless bass playing on that Mother Gong tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am McGroovey:

I thought this sounded like some kind of ?? Gong. There's too much ?? Gong to keep track of, and they're favorites of mine. Discogs says this was cassette-only, 1988? Never hoid of it. I do have the first two Mother Gong albums, but I have to draw lines when I reach a couple inches of a band's albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am Mr. Pumpy:

Doing my thing, sv. Living and breathing in these strange times. Great set. I was on the phone with my aunt...and rolling to the vibes. How are you holding out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am Mr. Pumpy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am Ath:

Great selections all around sv
Avatar 1:02am sv:

mcgroovey, gong is a group i mostly haven't cracked for myself, the exception being that tape, which is super rad and weird
  1:02am ?:

really dug that last track!
Avatar 1:03am sv:

glad you're enjoying pump & ath! i'm holding up! been working on new music, trying to exercise & read, yadda yadda
Avatar 1:03am sv:

?, that sjunne ferger album comes highly recommended!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07am Ath:

Ah yeah, some Sakamoto!
Avatar 1:12am sv:

there's still so much sakamoto i need to get to
Avatar 1:16am duck:

hey hey sv.. this is so west coast gangsta funk i had to pop in and say hello
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...keep fighting the fight. Glad to hear you're doing things. It isn't easy these days. Or, I should say it is easy to fall on the other die of that fence.
Avatar 1:18am sv:

Hey duck! always happy to hear from ya / appreciate you listening :)
Avatar 1:19am sv:

pump, it sure is - one foot ahead of the other!
Avatar 1:23am mb:

Hola SV and SW

Oh maaan. Missed the Ozric! Thats a big time gosh darnit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am Aitch:

Bene Gesserit were the creepy nuns in Dune.
Avatar 1:25am sv:

hey mb! sorry ya missed it too. the whole first hour was kinda nestled in that sonic territory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...pick em up and put em down, bruv
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am McGroovey:

The obvious Gongs to crack into are the Angel's Egg/Flying Teapot/You trilogy. Camembert Electrique is right before that, and similarly good. They're spacy, noodly-riff-rocking, and funny in turns. Also, the Planet Gong Floating Anarchy Live 1977 album, which adds a dose of punk (in the heavy riffing sense) anarchy to the spacy-rock-fun. Avoid the late '70s Gong albums without Daevid Allen, unless you like fusion. Most of those say "Pierre Moerlen's Gong" on the cover, but there are a couple that don't. They don't really rock or fly off into space, and they're not much fun. Unless you like fusion. One of them has Alan Holdsworth on it, which will either attract you or repel you, depending.

The Mother Gong records I have sound like the good Gong. There's also a New York Gong record (or more than one?) which is basically Daevid Allen with Material, and it's kinda crazy, not so much like Gong, but not so much like Material, either. But I like it. Kind of Lo-Fi almost-rocking studio poetry. And I have some Daevid Allen solo things that I like: "Bananamoon" (with Robert Wyatt, etc), "Divided Alien Playbax 80" (tape-experimental-music + poetry), "N'Existe Pas" (similar to early '70s Gong, with but minus most of the riffing, but with plenty of spaciness and goofy poetry). Oh, and there's a Daevid Allen & Kramer album from the nineties, but I can't rememebr what it sounds like.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am Mr. Pumpy:

Avoid nothing...just figure it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am Mr. Pumpy:

Avatar 1:54am sv:

thanks for the overview, mcgroovey! i'll keep it in mind for any gong related travails
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am WillCrete:

@McGroovey: thanks for the listening notes/ context on the Gong resonances/ legacies.
@Mr. Pumpy: agreed ... onward into the journey of figuring it out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10am Mr. Pumpy:

@WillCrete...it's a never-ending journey, which I welcome. Seems you do as wall. It means nothing other than we are who we are. Ducked out into an Opeth/Maiden thing due to a friend. Be well!
Avatar 2:14am sv:

thanks for tuning in, pump - stay well!
  2:15am modern blaze:

list of lizards? ah yeah. gonna snitch good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am Mr. Pumpy:

sv, coming back in a bit. Oh... a bunch of the Steven Wilson stuff I mentioned recently is on the Tonefloat imprint. Fabio played a pre- Kraftwerk: The Organisation track called Tone Float a few days ago and I figure that may be where the label got it's name from. Makes sense judging on their location (Netherlands) and type of music. I had never heard The Organisation album, it''s amazing!
  2:18am modern blaze:

@Mr. Pumpy me neither... where to go?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20am Ath:

Blakee1000, so good

Believe me, I researched. www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am Mr. Pumpy:

Okay, I'm back. This is some funk-ass shit! It's as if Axel F woke up from a long dream and he realized the world wasn't all hokey and 80s any longer! Welcome back, Axel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am Ath:

Gud always has amazing stuff, crazy how consistent they all seem to be
Avatar 2:26am Hubig Pie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am Ath:

Any chance some of the songs Finn has been playing end up on your bandcamp?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Mr. Pumpy:

The chimes fading in on either side. Sweet, sweet chimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am Mr. Pumpy:

I often get annoyed when someone compares an artist to another artist. I have to say though, this bass line (well it kind of drifted off) reminds me so much of a slightly sped up Roni Size, Reprazent - Brown Paper Bag. In a weird and wonderful way.
Avatar 2:41am sv:

sorry guys, my mobile hotpsot died and i had to get my phone back up and running so the playlist is a lil behind. filling in now
Avatar 2:44am sv:

ath, dunno what tunes of mine he's been playing, will have to listen to some of his recent mixes! got some stuff lined up for the near-ish future regardless though :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am Mr. Pumpy:

Sick break-beat tech groove...whatevah! Nice tune, sv!
Avatar 2:49am sv:

good shit, right? Russian DNB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am Ath:

Looking forward to it! He played "yes I do" in January. For whatever reason I was thinking it was more recent
Avatar 2:52am sv:

ohhhh yeah! i listened to that one live, great show - i might put that one out at some point. i don't think it's completely terrible despite having made it a few years ago, and that's generally a good sign that it's okay for public consumption
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...thanks for the show. Pushing off.
