Hello Fabio and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm chris:

hey, Fabio and folks. Fabio, didn't you have Gen on a few times for interviews? 1999, 2004?

common! how could you ever make someone angry?
Avatar 3:50pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@MAgus: saw that one as well.
...was something of a TOPY tour slut in those days. caught DC, pyramid, maxwells, and I think there was one in Richmond VA as well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm brainiac:

@Handy: Do me a favor and peel those bad boys before eating them, ok?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm common:

@chris Ha! easy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Goyim in the AM:

I watched Narwuar the Human Serviette's interview of Psychic TV last night -- Gen starts out utterly dismissive and annoyed by Nardwuar, but as s/he begins to realize that Nardwuar's bit is more committed-to performance than phoney spiel, s/he really warms to him. Very worth watching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Goyim in the AM:

(Using Gen's preferred pronoun there.)
  3:53pm Gee:

love this

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Handy Haversack:

That was great. A lot of this is new to me.
Avatar 4:02pm TDK60:

Had to step out for about a half hour as I heard there was a new stock of toilet paper in the nearby supermarket. I scored but I wonder why it's so sought out. Does this mean most Americans are full of shit?
Avatar 4:02pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I think Dreams Less Sweet is the one that came with the 12" of THEE FULL PACK, which was a heavy favorite.

More wolf samples than one would think possible. & damned fine listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm chresti:

Haha TDK60
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Carmichael:

It starts at the top, TDK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Guido from Cologne:

even 1969
  4:05pm John from Florham park:

@TDK60 yup they are:)
  4:06pm John from Florham park:

@Carmichael was thinking the same thing:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm The Oscar:

Been busy working, but this is a great show. I'll never forget the time I saw Genesis try to calm the crowd at the Butthole Surfers reunion show after Gibby Haynes was ejected for throwing a beer bottle at the sound guy (s/he was on my subway afterwards-- I had no idea it was them until I read an article about it afterwards!). I'll have to fire up my Gristleism box later (which I got at Earwax, come to think of it!)
Avatar 4:07pm TDK60:

I would've thought something like canned tuna or rice or potatoes/etc. would be more sought...
Avatar 4:08pm Cabbage:

Greetings from the Land of The Nuclear Powerplant :-|
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm chris:

i won a Gristleism box in a marathon one year. fun to play.
Avatar 4:10pm TDK60:

..or peanut butter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm mariano:

@chris - Me too, one of the best FMU premiums ever! But now for some reason the volume on mine is very low, and it's not the battery, I even took it to a shop to get looked at. I got a Philip Glass version, but I miss my Gristleism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm queems:

NO
Avatar 4:12pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Come to think of it, I won a (non-gristle) buddha-box during a previous marathon & it never turned up....

got two of 'em already so it's no loss, had forgotten all about that..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm queems:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm queems:

i've never run to turn off the radio so fast in me life. except the radio is still on in my basement and i can hear it through the floor but i am too scared to go down and turn it off
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm chris:

i'd forgotten it was a premium, mariano. Scott W's show? will need to go get mine to see if its still Gristlizing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm The Oscar:

Is it weird that I find this song oddly relaxing? (Slug Bait, on the other hand...)
  4:15pm mr_donutsu:

Cognitive dissonance!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

queems: oh no!
Avatar 4:16pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I know someone who's friend played HAMBURGER LADY to someone who WAS a hospitalized burn patient, to get their informed review...

He said the slow oscillation sound was hauntingly similar to the sound of the respirator from the patient's point of view.

How's that for eerie, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm queems:

i haven't heard hamburger lady in almost 10 years but it still provokes panic in the depths of my being
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm common:

so beautifully creepy
  4:17pm John from Florham park:

@Granny are you all right now?
  4:17pm nic:

love this !!! i love a lot of what he did_i saw a short video of an early performance on Instagram_he was really great!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Mister Dobalina:

Sorry Queems but that experience of yours made me chuckle. Now I feel bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm queems:

@mister dobalina LOLOL don't feel bad. it's a ridiculous story
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm mariano:

@queems - We're complicated creatures. Some things just get to us for very complex, hard-to-explain reasons. I have a few of those myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm The Oscar:

A little ashamed to admit I've never delved too deeply into the PTV stuff, but this is fantastic.
  4:22pm karen eliot:

cathartic sound making is in my to do list.
  4:23pm Miss G:

@queems, yikes I'm with you now, this one "Themes" is getting to me. I'm going to sing "Mr Bob Dobalina" to myself, thank you for the inspiration Mr. Dobalina (my guy used to say to me in warning re: this kind of thing, 'Now honey, this is not 'Heidi. . .'")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

hey, JfFp: i'm doing ok, thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

and, ha ha! i gotta admit, these sounds don't really soothe my frazzled spirit, no matter how much i admire the creations of Genesis
  4:24pm MAgus:

we were the road crew on the bus. Altered state ov Amerika tour. great time. I was with gene not too long after he got out ov hospital-we miss her vry much!!!

THE BUS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm queems:

@mariano i definitely agree! @miss g i may or may not have listened to an instagram video on repeat to drown it out from the basement
Avatar 4:26pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

There were two US tours back then, I may be mixing them in the brain. Magical Mystery de-Tour was the other?
  4:27pm John from Florham park:

@Granny ok cool
  4:27pm MAgus:

that was the first tour
Avatar 4:27pm Jim the Poet:

Hey Fabio great show today
  4:28pm MAgus:

they played at "the world" also
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Handy Haversack:

I just got a little cleaning done, and now I'm gonna start cooking and possibly not emerge often for a couple of hours -- so let me thank you, Fabio. Really enjoying the show. Material I have heard some of but wish I knew better. A good friend of mine who moved away to Davis, CA, is listening too -- I knew he would be! Thanks, Fabio!
  4:29pm blackbodegabag:

this is exactly what I need right now
Avatar 4:30pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I'll say that "candy says" was an earworm for a hell of a long time.
Avatar 4:30pm Woo:

Yes, I was just thinking this is exactly what I need too. I've been listening to FMU since 5 AM but I did take a nap.

  4:39pm Miss G:

That indeed was an amazing version of "Unclean," thanks!
  4:42pm Miss G:

I used to get those record dealer "auction" newsletters when I lived in a rural area in the 70s, that's how I began my record collection! But I never did international!
  4:42pm John from Florham park:

@Miss O I was jamming to it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Rich in Washington:

I just saw a clip from some goofy reality TV show where Gen was selling that Tibetan thigh bone trumpet to some curio shop.
Avatar 4:46pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Speaking of Gen & technology:

I've had this mid-80s PTV CD forever (sordide sentimental label) called LISTEN TODAY... which supposedly has video material as well. Never was able to get to that .. says "must be played on a CD video player, soon available)...

anyone ever crack that open successfully?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Rich in Washington:

I used to have a few of those weird 'electric newspaper' releases. They were really peculiar.
  4:48pm Miss G:

Rich in Washington was it "Oddities" in the East Village by any chance? I love them!
Avatar 4:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Themes 2: favorite PTV record.

Another favorite was PTV+White Stains: at Stockholm -- but I think that was one long piece .. not so radio friendly perhaps ..

all good reminders to dig up these for a spin later.

@Fabio thanks for a really fabulous show

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm mariano:

Hey Fabio, do you know if the Jarman videos that go with Themes are available? Not having much luck with Google.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Rich in Washington:

Maybe try UBU Web, mariano? You have to go there directly and search. They've deliberately excluded themselves from external search engine searches in order to preserve the collection from copyright vultures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm mariano:

Ooh, thanks @Rich!
Avatar 5:22pm Fredericks:

what year did they flee the uk? all their tapes/videos confiscated. it was a tough time for the family. does anyone know if they were ever recovered.?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Handy Haversack:

@mariano (5:39): That would definitely signal that social distancing is over! I hope and assume that Ken would periodically turn his head and shout "THROBBING GRISTLE!" as the cash went in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Threemoons:

Just found out that a long-pursued full time job is starting on time for me on Monday...with full work from home! So glad I pledged to WFMU to help me through the next few months of complete isolation...

  5:47pm gen ken:

I first heard TG at Cafe Flore in San Francisco in 1977- and Search & Destroy magazine published an amazing interview with Gen that riveted my attention for life. She/he is a huge influence - thanks for this show - so much great sonic work and pioneering ideas over an beyond this world. Bravo!
  5:48pm Adam West Coaster:

This is an excellent example of why free-form non-commercial radio is vital, and worth going all in for.
