"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Morning, all. I think I need to start smoking again to come down from Clay's show.

If anyone can, tell Staysh to update the post on the main page to indicate the Polka Party is *tonight*, not "tomorrow." It's the future already!

Has WFMU ever tried a donation auction - like people could donate musical instruments, rare LPs, etc and they would be charity auctioned to raise some funds for the station?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Handy Haversack:

You have to think of the future, @David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Marley P. Dogg:

WFMU definitely takes record donations- and they sell some on eBay

@David (in London): You should do it. I'm already busy with my aleatoric xenharmonic electroacoustic chamber-noise ensemble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am WoodsOfNH:

@David A band that does nothing but Carly Simon covers but in mathcore style.
  9:41am prudy:

Ike, why do you hate the pigeon so? It's all a performance anyways...

@P20 - That's cool. You can make a guest appearance on hurdy-gurdy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am David (in London):

@WoodsOfNH - That's just the kind of challenge I relish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am p20:

  9:45am Dan from Delco:

Similar to the Delco in PA, the NY Delco is named for the Delaware River
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am WoodsOfNH:

Who is this? Kind of has a Chicago thing going on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am adampsyche:

PROTO HORN ROCK MOOSE THROAT
  9:48am kev:

fuck that fat Canadian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am David (in London):

'Moose Throat' may have to be a spin-off band from the CP concept. Kind of Dischord / DC hardcore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am steveo:

that's the new slogan "JA in the AM: nothing wrong with it!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Handy Haversack:

But really concerned with hunters' rights, @David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am melinda:

It's a smooth jazz design.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Ike:

Actually that was surprisingly only mildly idiotic. Was it any good? No, of course not, but given CP's appalling tastes, it could have been far worse.
Avatar 9:51am Hubig Pie:

I looked up jazz in the dictionary and it said -"miscellaneous"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am melinda:

Moose throat is a good term.

  9:53am prudy:

haven't visited the new mexican, all I can say is there is already quite a few mexican places around even if they are mediocre to bad...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Handy Haversack:

Deerstalkers -- but of course! Possibly with foam antlers so that everyone knows their aiming big.

I'm seeing hip waders, too, @David. And their roadies are all called "ghillies."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am p20:

I think fusion is ready for a revival. Check out "Sunwatchers".

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am p20:

I think it would depend on the style of moustache?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am David (in London):

Handy, no, it's not deerstalkers that I have in my mind's eye. More the American type of headwear - I don't know if it has a technical name. Something akin to what Elmer Fudd used to wear.
  9:58am prudy:

love Sunwatchers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am David (in London):

@People Like Us - Not sure that it's still fully understood Stateside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Handy Haversack:

I know what you mean, @David.
Avatar 10:00am SoylentMike:

I am not a big fan, but I think it really worked for the Psychedelic Fu8rs. Listen to the Pulse for example.
Avatar 10:00am SoylentMike:

Of the sax that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am p20:

@David: I think's pretty universally understood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am streetwaves:

Almost everything I love has been cancelled---is beer next?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Handy Haversack:

Wait -- I was working. Is this just rumor mongering? Why do I ever pay attention to work instead of WFMU?

Was that official?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am p20:

@David: I think it's known as a "Fudd Hat" :)
  10:02am siouxsie snowboard:

My husband is in a dead tribute band but he comes from the avant-guard jazz world. And I am not a dead head so I am the “Noodle indicator” for the guitarists. And back in the day I was big into fusion - tangerine dream and return to forever. :) i might have to donate again!! You guys are doing great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am David (in London):

@p20 - Ah, OK. Mine is an outdated British perception then. I will update my records accordingly. Thanks.
Avatar 10:03am John Allen:

thanks folks! keep em coming!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am streetwaves:

Saw Facebook posts last night that the record fair was cancelled. I'm guessing that they have reached out to dealers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am p20:

I like saxophones and horn rock. But I think Robyn Hitchcock was onto something when he wrote "Oh, It feels like 1974. Ghastly mellow saxophones all over the floor."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am David (in London):

@p20 - A Fudd hat! Really? That makes me very happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am TomDash:

Already pledged to last week's show, but if you can work up a solid guitar rock jam with Steve Gunn AND Clay, I'll throw ya a few more bucks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am melinda:

@David the W word isn't as widely understood and impactful as the F word over here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am David (in London):

@Handy - Apparently I will be wearing a Fudd hat whilst I plough through the Mannix back episodes.
  10:06am Fletchernyc:

Laughner!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am p20:

@melinda @David: Maybe not as well known as the F-word. But every guitar player I know knows exactly what it means :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Handy Haversack:

Also a "Yukon hat," I think, @David, but let's go with the name that brings the most joy!

Still hoping record fair news is not official. Was really looking forward to volunteering at it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am melinda:

@p20 yes, but for some reason referring to wanking or jerking is not forbidden in the same way saying the f word is. At least in the states.
Avatar 10:09am SoylentMike:

Off subject, butI have to share this. You all need t6o see the Bonanza episode S13 E 4. hoss Judges a baby beauty pageant. Oh my God. It is a good one.
Avatar 10:09am TDK60:

Was trying various guitars in a music store yesterday. Do they spray those strings after closing? Or, it doesn't matter if under 500 people came thru?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Handy Haversack:

*That* was the "W word"? Yeah, we barely blink at it. So to speak.
Avatar 10:10am SoylentMike:

I do not watch it, but I was flicking through the channels and caught it and couldn't stop watching.
  10:10am Fletchernyc:

Can’t afford it, but gotta get in for the Laughner box

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am melinda:

@Handy right? Cultural norms are funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am p20:

It's clearly a sign of the patriarchy. Reference to female masturbation is still pretty taboo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am David (in London):

Am popping out to the shops now. I fear for what I might find - some kind of George A Romero hellscape? Wish me luck. Back soon.

  10:16am Keith in Vermont:

Oh... a confessional! I never got Van Morrison. Or Paul Weller.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Handy Haversack:

(To be clear: good call on the VU. Bowie will come back to save us all, like King Arthur.)
Avatar 10:16am TDK60:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am p20:

Keith in Vermont: No confession required, Van Morrison is awful.

Avatar 10:18am TDK60:

Avatar 10:21am Woo:

I saw Mott with Mahavishnu Orchestra as opening act. That's called incongruous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am WoodsOfNH:

@TDK60 That track was "On With The Show" (listed on that youtube entry)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am WoodsOfNH:

@Woo Concert lineups back then were so varied. Kind of fun (and weird)
Avatar 10:23am Lixiviated Life:

that is the Clay Pigeon we're hearing on the JA show.

I can confidently say that never before in history has Weather Report, Peter Laughner and Garcia Peoples been played in succession. This is why I love WFMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Handy Haversack:

I've heard your bass playing TDK. Fate went the right way that night.

This Purple Mountains sounds like early Eagles.
  11:20am PJ:

A "Take It Easy" vibe.
  11:23am Jett:

He doesn't even sleep with his eyes shut.
  11:24am John from Florham park:

@TDK60 do you regret not seeing them
  11:24am Jett:

Clay said the S word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am BRM:

Looking at the total, with 60 hours to go, the station has to average $7717.28 an hour to meet the goal, so let's all give what we can and help meet WFMU's needs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Handy Haversack:

I have said it before, @David: It's *so* embarrassing when one turns to cannibalism too soon.
  11:25am John from Florham park:

@Jett I think clay said shoot:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am David (in London):

@Handy - I know it's one of your old maxims, and I set great store by it.
  11:28am Cubicle Carl:

Right. In fact the Jewish Music in morning program was a long standing holdover from the non-freeform days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Ken From Hyde Park:

@BRM - that looks like the pace my 401k was diminishing the last couple days.
  11:29am Jett:

I hope so @JohnFromFlorhamPark
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am TomDash:

quick- someone run to the record library and grab Rundgren's "Healing"!
  11:30am John from Florham park:

@DIL anything for the president today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am tim from champaign (now washington):

Jazz Guitarist Greg Ginn was a big Black Oak fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Nate K.:

Saw Jim Dandy MC a night of a festival in Memphis. He was way more formal than you'd expect, but he was also draped in pelts.
Avatar 11:32am TDK60:

JohninFP: I have this image of us having real fun with the Flock of S., there with the new wavers with the bangs in their foreheads. Might've had a brew with the band after. Talked about delay pedals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Carmichael:

I knew I would regret tuning in to this show ...
Avatar 11:32am Woo:

The world needs Jim Dandy to come to the rescue. Now. Go Jim Dandy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am David (in London):

Mr President, I will be asking you to review the emergency pandemic plan later on when it's fully revised.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Ken From Hyde Park:

What JAZZ offshoot is this?
Avatar 11:33am PKNY:

People are saying that Jim Dandy in his name
  11:33am John from Florham park:

@DIL will do
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am tim from champaign (now washington):

@Nate K - was that Goner Fest?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am steveo:

that vocal style
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am WoodsOfNH:

I just realized that Jim Dandy was the first yarler.
  11:34am John from Florham park:

@TDK interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am David (in London):

Jim Dandy, wow, that one passed me by. "He is noted for his raspy voice, long hair, and wild, sexually-explicit stage antics which sometimes included miming sex with a washboard which he often uses to accompany his singing." I don't really know what to say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Carmichael:

Although I would open my 6 AM DJ show in the 70s with this type of music, I'm now old and tired. Today, it would probably be Mdou Moctar.
Avatar 11:34am TDK60:

Hey, where's Black Oak A. in the playlist?
Avatar 11:35am PKNY:

No Jim Dandy, no David Lee Roth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Handy Haversack:

We're gonna need more pelts, @David. Call Moose Throat.
Avatar 11:36am TDK60:

I saw Black Oak on that '70s concert TV show (Don Kirchner?) The best part of the show was the last song, they threw their guitars in the air and let them fall onto the stage as they exited. It was almost avant garde, a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Nate K.:

@Tim, yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am tim from champaign (now washington):

@David - the dollar bins over here are filled with Black Oak records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am p20:

wave your vaporizers in the air...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am tim from champaign (now washington):

@Nate K - ha! I wondered how they pulled him in to MC a fest full of punk rock bozos?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am David (in London):

@tim - For sure I shall have to pick me up one when I'm next over there.

Avatar 11:41am Woo:

Bruce's son will actually live some of the stories that Bruce never did.
Avatar 11:41am PKNY:

I'd go along with the earlier discussion about purposely putting on Springsteen records at home, but I just finished his book, highly recommended! He's definitely proud of his kids.
  11:41am nellies:

Lol!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Handy Haversack:

@Nate K, I do! I had a friend EMTing at the same time.
