Poor Georgy is ill, but I shall be babysitting the messageboard this evening

bravo! :-)

Hi everybody. I'm going to lay down away from the screen :-) Have a fun show!

Great show today, Jan! Was busily doing household chores with your show loudly playing throughout the house.
Avatar 4:07pm worldsworstrecords:

hey Rich!

Hi Darryl!
Hi Linda Lee!
Hi melinda!

hi Rich! :-)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Rich in Washington:

Hope GeorgyGirl feels better soon!
Avatar 4:07pm worldsworstrecords:

I'm sure she will :-)
Avatar 4:09pm worldsworstrecords:

never heard this track before: it's wonderful
Avatar 4:10pm Linda Lee:

it really is! super evocative!
Avatar 4:12pm Linda Lee:

I once married a boy from Brighton. should've taken a trip home before the divorce! :-D
Avatar 4:14pm worldsworstrecords:

haha! That sounds like the briefest outline to a 60s movie
Avatar 4:15pm worldsworstrecords:

Rita Tushingham stars, with David Warner as the Boy From Brighton
Avatar 4:15pm Linda Lee:

alas it was 1980. a tad late. but yes. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm melinda:

Is it just me or is it wrong to paint wood trim with a roller brush? I just moved back into my house after I had to have some work done and just noticed that the trim they painted is textured like the wall, feels sort of crappy and cheap.
Avatar 4:18pm worldsworstrecords:

Very wrong
Avatar 4:19pm worldsworstrecords:

You need a brush for gloss paint on wood
Avatar 4:21pm worldsworstrecords:

how funny! I played Wyngarde's version of Neville Thumbcatch only two nights ago on the WWRRS
Avatar 4:22pm Linda Lee:

can't begin to imagine a song called 'neville thumbcatch'..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm melinda:

It didn't occur to me that they would not use a brush so I didn't check during the walk-through. Very disappointing but at least it looks better than the chipped and peeling paint layers before, and I have a can of paint left over to re-do later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm melinda:

I love the Wyngarde version, heard it first here on FMU some years ago but don['t know what show.
Avatar 4:25pm worldsworstrecords:

This is a killer track
Avatar 4:25pm Linda Lee:

yes. superb.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm coelacanth∅:

i'm meticulous about painting wood in the direction of the wood grain
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm coelacanth∅:

yeah that corona virus is not really my cuppa tea
Avatar 🎸 4:36pm Sem:

Frigateer Sem on-board and ready for duty. Hello, all.
Avatar 4:37pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm melinda:

@coel, yeah, it's really bothering me that something which seems so obvious to me wasn't to the person who did the painting. I don't think it was the person I hired but probably his assistant. I have trouble being assertive but I might send a text.
Avatar 4:39pm Domenic:

Hi folks. Just a hello to GG and get well soon!
Avatar 4:40pm Linda Lee:

I loved this song when it hit the states. 'heart full of soul' too. couldn't write in cursive yet, but loved the yardbirds. :-)
Avatar 4:40pm worldsworstrecords:

It may have been obvious, but they might have been cutting corners to save time and money, Melinda
Avatar 4:41pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi Domenic
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:42pm ParUbi:

Good evening from a drizzly, Pittsburgh afternoon
Avatar 4:43pm Linda Lee:

but honestly, if you could bring your youth to a different period than the one you lived, wouldn't you be a London Mod? say it: of course!
Avatar 4:43pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi ParUbi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm melinda:

The guy I hired made a point of saying he didn't cut corners but that he sometimes had to stay on his assistant not to. Oh well.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:44pm ParUbi:

Hi Darryl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm melinda:

@Linda London Mod would be rad.
Avatar 4:44pm worldsworstrecords:

Liverpool, from the late 50s
Avatar 4:45pm worldsworstrecords:

To be there at the birth of the Beatles... jeez
Avatar 4:45pm Linda Lee:

The Beatles in leather, no less. :-)
Avatar 4:46pm Linda Lee:

but you'd have to have been 'in' on it. somehow found your way to those crappy little clubs..
Avatar 4:46pm worldsworstrecords:

I would have paid good money to see Brian Epstein in his leather suit... I bet it was hysterical
Avatar 4:47pm Linda Lee:

you might've been personally invited to see him remove it, too. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm coelacanth∅:

i know people (younger, mostly) who that wouldn't be obvious to. the same people who'd let their dog pee on the porch or wash dishes with ajax cleanser.
... then again it's probably more about saving time (as mentioned)
  4:47pm Elizabeth:

I would have loved to have lived in Swinging London- also Northern England in the 70s
Avatar 4:48pm worldsworstrecords:

I reckon if I had been 14 or 15 in Liverpool in 1960 I'd have been aware of them. Probably not before that though, unless I had friends at Quarry bank or something like that
Avatar 4:48pm worldsworstrecords:

hahaha! I wouldn't have been his type Linda
Avatar 4:48pm Linda Lee:

right! :-)
Avatar 4:49pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi Elizabeth!
Avatar 4:49pm Linda Lee:

oh no? that's too bad. maybe!
  4:49pm Elizabeth:

Hello Worldswostrecords!
  4:50pm Elizabeth:

oops... I mean Worldsworstrecords! I'm tired today! LOL!
Avatar 4:50pm worldsworstrecords:

Don't worry! Typos are fine this time of night
Avatar 4:53pm Linda Lee:

there! here comes a London show! we can hear what we might've heard!
Avatar 4:53pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:53pm ParUbi:

Hello Elizabeth!
Avatar 4:54pm Linda Lee:

this might be my favorite oo. what a gorgeous side.
Avatar 4:55pm worldsworstrecords:

Nicky Hopkins on piano IIRC.. what a player. Such a distinctive style
Avatar 4:55pm Linda Lee:

when were they doing this? 65? outrageous..
Avatar 4:56pm worldsworstrecords:

I know
Avatar 4:58pm worldsworstrecords:

Never heard this before either, has a very Chris Farlowe sound
Avatar 5:00pm worldsworstrecords:

We're heading into hour two of tonight's show.. what a great playlist Georgy put together
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:00pm ParUbi:

Where are we in the playlist?
Avatar 5:00pm Linda Lee:

ooooh! listen to this amazing arrangement ~ what a neat r & b hybrid..
The Blue Aces.
Avatar 5:01pm worldsworstrecords:

That was The Blue Aces and You Don't care. ParUbi
Avatar 5:02pm worldsworstrecords:

This is The Clayton Squares and Imagination
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm ParUbi:

Got it! Thanks!
Avatar 5:03pm Don-O:

I'm just showing to see/hear when my weekend starts....
Avatar 5:04pm worldsworstrecords:

hey Don-O!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Mr Fab:

Those Clayton Squares weren't no squares, dad. That was a boss tune.
Avatar 5:06pm worldsworstrecords:

hey Mr F!
Avatar 5:08pm Linda Lee:

i'll second that! fun seeing the oo. i'll never forget seeing Moon play. didn't see them in Brighton, though!
Avatar 5:13pm worldsworstrecords:

I saw the three piece who, sans Keith, twice
Avatar 5:13pm Linda Lee:

who was the 3 piece?
Avatar 5:14pm Linda Lee:

Daltrey, Townsend and ... ?
Avatar 5:15pm worldsworstrecords:

I mean while John E was still around... the actual band was a five piece, with Rabbit on keyboards and (I think one time) with Kenny Jones on drums
Avatar 5:16pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 5:16pm worldsworstrecords:

The second time might have been Zak Starkey on drums... not sure
Avatar 5:17pm worldsworstrecords:

I saw them a third time, doing Tommy at the Albert Hall with an all-star cast (including Gary Glitter!)
Avatar 5:17pm Linda Lee:

oh my god! :-D
Avatar 5:17pm worldsworstrecords:

Si I saw Daltrey, Townshend and Entwistle three times
Avatar 5:18pm Linda Lee:

was that London?
Avatar 5:20pm worldsworstrecords:

It was, but I've just checked and I think I'm mis-remembering; Glitter did Quadrophenia with them; I saw them do Tommy with people including Billy Idol. I can only have seen the Glitter performance on film
Avatar 5:21pm worldsworstrecords:

The Glitter/Quadrophenia (he did the Punk and the Godfather) was in Hyde Park, and I definitely was not there
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:21pm ParUbi:

That sounds terrifying. This actually happens?
Avatar 5:22pm worldsworstrecords:

..blame drink (at the time) and old age (now!)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:22pm ParUbi:

(re: hung out the window)
Avatar 5:22pm Linda Lee:

and that's how we dip into the collective memory for our own! :-)
Avatar 5:23pm Linda Lee:

here's the thing: how does anyone actually get you by your feet & then over a balcony? how can that possibly work if you're not 2 years old?
Avatar 5:23pm worldsworstrecords:

Yes, the Don Arden/Robert Stigwood story is absolutely true. I mention it in my new book!
Avatar 5:24pm Linda Lee:

the man must be the devil. that's all.
Avatar 5:24pm worldsworstrecords:

It was two of Arden's heavies, and they had hold of him while they forced him over the balcony... probably by his waist rather than his feet
Avatar 5:26pm Linda Lee:

ah. of course. heavies paid out of your own money.. to dip you over a balcony. i think i'd say screw the contract at that point.
Avatar 5:28pm worldsworstrecords:

Just over half an hour left, then it's over to Don-O for the Hour of Crap www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 5:30pm Linda Lee:

to this day I'm amazed at the absolute wealth of phenomenal creativity in the 1960s.. it's really, really incredible.
Avatar 5:30pm worldsworstrecords:

Don Arden was an out and out crook who though he was mafioso: you can see where Peter Grant got his ideas from
Avatar 5:30pm worldsworstrecords:

Agreed Linda
Avatar 5:31pm Linda Lee:

it's almost impossible to really consider all that happened.. in popular music in the US & UK alone!
Avatar 5:33pm Linda Lee:

no wonder the mods used speed :-D
Avatar 5:34pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar 5:35pm Linda Lee:

the desire to hear, to see all there was to hear & see .. wow. :-D
Avatar 5:35pm Don-O:

I saw a doc on Arden somewhere in YT and he was a the rough type. He ran Jet Records and also ran the label into the ground in the early 80's cause of too many lawsuits....
Avatar 5:37pm Linda Lee:

hope he took a nice dive from the balcony to finish up.
Avatar 5:37pm worldsworstrecords:

that's right: Jet was him and his son David
  5:38pm CC:

Groovy show this afternoon Georgy Girl... where ever you are... hi all... has the show been aired before world's worst records???
Avatar 5:38pm worldsworstrecords:

No, this is a new show CC: Georgy had recorded it before she fell ill
Avatar 5:39pm worldsworstrecords:

..and Hi, CC!
Avatar 5:41pm Don-O:

I wasn't around at the top of the show. I suspect DJ GG is not around the chat room right now.
Avatar 5:41pm worldsworstrecords:

the original of this was by the Velvettes, on Motown
  5:41pm CC:

I see.. I thought this might be a show about deceased artists or something... I loved Steve Marriott!!!
Avatar 5:41pm Linda Lee:

why does a fantastic, biblical storm in Brighton sound so lovely?
Avatar 5:42pm worldsworstrecords:

No Don-O: she's ill... I'm manning the message board for her
Avatar 5:43pm worldsworstrecords:

It's almost 11 at night here: I expect she's tucked up in bed!
Avatar 5:44pm Linda Lee:

just dropped her a little line with good wishes.
Avatar 5:44pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar 5:45pm huomenta:

hi everyone! sadly i missed half of this (from hush onwards) but what a feeling to return to this with the yardbirds smokestack lightning, one of my childhood faves! Georgy Girl put a good setlist together, so I need to check the hour or so I missed.
Avatar 5:46pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi huomenta!
Avatar 5:50pm Linda Lee:

hey! a female vocalist! not too many of those, were there? this is amazing!
  5:50pm Martinibomb:

hey WWR just sayin' hello and thanks for helping GG today.
Avatar 5:51pm worldsworstrecords:

Hey MB: my pleasure! She's dome me enough favours in the past!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm melinda:

This music has been fun.
  5:52pm CC:

I hope it's not the coronavirus or something I would feel much much better if I thought she only had a hangover and couldn't talk or something...hehehe
Avatar 5:52pm worldsworstrecords:

The owners of the Flamingo were Georgie Fame's managers
Avatar 5:52pm huomenta:

hi! even though I am from finnish countryside, I was lucky enough to visit the amazing local library, which had stuff from yardbirds for example, thats why the particular track was my favouritemas a kid. I remember they had a comp from Creation as well, though I stupidly did not check it out back then in the 80s....
Avatar 5:52pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi first manager was Larry Parnes, then the Gunnell brothers- who owned the Flamingo at that time - took over
Avatar 5:53pm Don-O:

Well, it looks like I'm coming up next. Click here for some more noise: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 5:54pm Linda Lee:

thanks so much for manning the board, Darryl! thank you! lovely.
Avatar 5:54pm Linda Lee:

how is it 50 years from 1970? this makes no sense.
Avatar 5:54pm worldsworstrecords:

Thanks Linda, you're more than welcome
Avatar 5:55pm worldsworstrecords:

I know... mad, isn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Mr Fab:

Thanks Georgy, please get well soon, I demand it! And thank you very much Darryl for (as we say in America) pinch-hitting for Georgy.
And yes on a 1960 show, would love to hear that.
