This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Something about colds and the holidays, the post holiday crash.
Avatar 7:12pm Flash Strap:

i tried so hard to avoid it, I think I'm the last of all my friends to catch this cold. almost made it through, but it caught up to me
Avatar 7:15pm hyde:

that's the worst
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm chresti:

Yeah, everybody had colds last week, now Franco's got it, I.m next. I like to think it's lost it's steam by the time it hits us.

Had flu for Thanksgiving...may garlic gods bless there...
Avatar 7:23pm Flash Strap:

almost escaped me too, Hyde! I've only listened to this once actually. I kept seeing it around and thinking it was some comp, but it's a full-fledged never-been-heard soundboard recording from '72
Avatar 7:23pm Flash Strap:

Hi TDK! Happy New Year
Avatar 7:23pm Flash Strap:

Hi Doc!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 7:31pm Flash Strap:

very little recognizable between this and the album version, even including Cecil McBee's unforgettable bassline. incredibly fascinating recording
Avatar 7:31pm TDK60:

Is it possible to putz round the house while simultaneously being transported? These and other questions...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm passiflora:

Avatar 7:38pm Flash Strap:

truly a pleasure to give this my own first Serious Listen with you all. Have yet to fully explore the rest of the album, very excited
Avatar 7:39pm hyde:

now it sounds familiar
Avatar 7:40pm quinn:

Someone I know just asked on her Facebook for albums to play that weren’t overtly sexual but would turn someone on, and she got this album as a suggestion.
Avatar 7:40pm Flash Strap:

this is truly as good as a piece of music can be, I think. Cecil McBee with that incredible bassline, Pharoah Sanders at his best (imo), that tambura, and the harp just glistening
Avatar 7:41pm Flash Strap:

@quinn: big time, very sensual music

These were albums for audio nerds; Mercury (and RCA Living Stereo) albums, especially the classical releases, command high prices.
Avatar 8:01pm hyde:

that is some killer bongo playing
Avatar 8:01pm Flash Strap:

this one did not, fortunately! The command LPs are also really easy to come by, and sound great if they're in good shape
Avatar 8:01pm Flash Strap:

@hyde: really is
Avatar 8:01pm Hams:

sounds brilliant!
Avatar 8:02pm Flash Strap:

Hi Hams!
Avatar 8:02pm hyde:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

One thing crosses my mind ... : I wish you could fill my iPod for when I got no WiFi...
Avatar 8:26pm TDK60:

..Franco, 4 bonus tracks if that's what you mean, or do you mean like to, man, expand your mind?
Avatar 8:26pm Flash Strap:

@P: i'd like to visit a hotel, or even a restaurant, that played good atmospheric music, feels like an extinct concept. every place just pops on some spotify playlist designed by an algorithm to drive me specifically insane
Avatar 8:27pm Flash Strap:

@REv: well it'd be my pleasure if it ever came to pass
Avatar 8:27pm ARB:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm northguineahills:

@TDK: I'm not even going to tell you what recs I scored from the Jacksonville Public Library in 2000 for $0.50 each... (it took three trips to my car 5 blocks away). None of my friends knew about it. Wow, 2000 was so long ago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Franco Twinkie:

Alina, you and me and Flash should sit around in a circle with out feet in a tub of hot water with towels on our heads and thermometers sticking out of our mouths just like an old cartoon about sick people.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Franco Twinkie:

Ha! That brings a funny image to mind, TDK. A CD that sprays LSD into your face when you open it. No, I meant the bonus tracks. I particularly like Clementine Jam and the wide open version of The Eleven, which to me is The Dead at their fiercest.

Having a hard time focusing on my own show prep this evening. I generally try to clear the decks so I can go Explorer Rooming. I have one ear here and one ear on my pile of possible spins. I will be devoting an hour to the music of Iran on Give the Drummer Some tomorrow. Some gorgeous gobsmackers will be happening!
Avatar 9:25pm Flash Strap:

That sounds excellent Doug! I was thinking of doing some Iranian music tonight but realized I have very little and know nothing. So I can't wait for your show tomorrow, a necessary corrective and I'm sure a massive pleasure as well
