"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Good morning DJ JA. / Looks like 2020 has already flopped (not your show, the world in general.)

hard to believe it's the year ten thousand all ready
Avatar 9:36am PKNY:

Pharoah just played in NYC last week, didn't have a chance to go. The last time I saw him, "Greatest Love of All" was a part of his set.
Avatar 9:43am John Allen:

i saw Pharoah a few years ago, he was helping celebrate johan kugleberg's 50th b-day (look him up). everyone should check him out these days (Pharoah)
  9:46am karen eliot:

peace & love y’all.
Avatar 9:46am TDK60:

Only saw Pharoah S. once: briefly at Ornette Coleman's memorial; played a 5-min solo, it was /thick/.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Scott Williams:

Coming, Johnny....
  10:12am Gordon FM:

What a great set! Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am steveo:

went downstairs to get a sandwich and heard funkytown on wcbs; you don't hear a lot of pop songs with violins AND police whistles
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Passaic River Blues:

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I want Franco Jazz Prog all the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am steveo:

that's a sign of maturity, PRB
Avatar 10:28am John Allen:

the current direction of this show has yielded the fewest listener comments since the inception of JA in the AM. FOLK JAZZ!!!
  10:28am choggie:

my pooch is head-twistin' to this schwammy solo
  10:31am Polyus:

Actually this Zao track is pretty great.
And totally new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Passaic River Blues:

@steveo: Growed up big!

@Polyus: it was. I need it.

  11:05am karen eliot:

love this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Krys O.:

JA, working while listening sometimes hinders my ability to comment, but I always enjoy your show.
Avatar 11:06am JakeGould:

@steveo:You realize that’s modern “grandpa” music, right? I mean U2 is dad rock, but “Funkytown” is ancient history.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am maestroso:

Yeah, the forsyth is killer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am tim from champaign (now washington):

This is like Eliminator era ZZ Top with the sequencers turned off. Definitely a good thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am tim from champaign (now washington):

What are some examples of 'Dad Rock'? I've heard the term but don't know what it means exactly.
Avatar 11:13am thormagma:

@Tim from champaign: steely dan, doobie brothers, wilco, seems to me like rock groups with a 'classic rock' sensibility that don't have the sabbath/acdc edginess to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am steveo:

@jake well it was on the oldies station....
Avatar 11:17am Hubig Pie:

The exorzist brings the heavy jamz
Avatar 11:17am thormagma:

I also always picture a certain whiteness to bands considered dad rock, adjacent of country/blues/funk with questionable swagger, etc. to be clear as well I would only agree that less than half of wilco's disco is dad rock but most of my millenial/gen z friends def write them off as such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am tim from champaign (now washington):

@thormagma - phew! I'm in the clear then. I like rounded edges as much as the next person but when it comes to "classic" rock I follow Nuge's advice from Double Live Gonzo "If anybody wants to get mellow they can turn around and get the fuck outta here!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am tim from champaign (now washington):

I like Freedom Rock.
Avatar 11:21am thormagma:

maybe some of the only advice you could take from ted nugent. a broken clock is right twice a day I suppose!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am steveo:

i like Debris wow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am steveo:

i am also a dad -- coincidence?
Avatar 11:22am JakeGould:

I still find it hilarious that Apple thought (still thinks?) U2 is a cool band that people would be happy to get a free album from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am TomDash:

Could this get any better? Then he spins MX-80 Sound...
Swag For Life Member 11:25am mndave:

chills from this mx-80 sound chorus every time. j. robbins also has an excellent cover of this song from 2018.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Krys O.:

Grandma Rock = Moby Grape?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am tim from champaign (now washington):

@Krys O - Ha! I can get behind some Grandma Rock for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Cmurtha:

Hello everyone!
Avatar 11:33am JakeGould:

Grandma Rock? THE BEATLES!!!! (Specifically the Beatles with tons of teenage girls screaming so loud nobody can actually hear the band.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am tim from champaign (now washington):

Whoa! I've seen Alan Stivell's records in the "world" bins forever. I had no idea!
Avatar 11:42am Hubig Pie:

Uillean pipes are a daunting musical instrument
Avatar 11:42am JakeGould:

Seriously, uncle rock is Fear’s “Let’s Have a War.”
  11:46am karen eliot:

thanks for a great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Carmichael:

Heya JA and rockers. I have a 1/2 rack of Uilleanns, used to play 'em a lot!
Avatar 11:55am Hubig Pie:

Carmichael, I have a neglected set of North Umbrian and Scottish Highland pipes that are looking for a new owner
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am tim from champaign (now washington):

Thanks JA!
  12:08pm miketp:

wonderful world of sound.this is the place....
