"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

I hope nut-heads aren't giving Pharoah Sanders grief for not living in a pyramid. (I assume he actually does not live in a pyramid, does he?)

this opening set is *just* what the proverbial doctor ordered to kill off the over-dose Christmas blues -- esp. the Pharoah Sanders piece -- THANK-YOU!

  11:01am Dave from Brooklyn:

Hey Dr Allen. God how I miss Marty and Paul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am karlward:

Who was it who said on this accuplaylist that when Marty claimed "Miracles" only took 45 minutes to write, this was impossible because the song is much longer than that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am mariano:

Good one, @karlward!
Avatar 11:03am slugluv1313:

aghhhhhhh "Miracles"! one of the *cheeziest* songs EVER! but, i gotta admit, STILL a guilty pleasure, 40+ years later :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am karlward:

mariano: No, I didn't originate that, I'm asking who it was. I think it was a regular here who said that.
  11:03am Listener Bop Monroe:

saw them do this at central park, cut school, great day, outlaws opened...
  11:05am Listener Bop Monroe:

scott muni, alison steele....
Avatar 11:07am slugluv1313:

@ Listener Bop Monroe -- yup! high school art class too :)
@ karlward -- differing accounts, from the wiki page: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am mariano:

@slugluv: I know what you mean - it's such a perfect snapshot of a the 60s becoming the 70s, and I can't stop listening to it once it starts playing. It's a great groove, the main part, and I like how the main part is also the chorus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am tim from champaign (now washington):

Is this from the Velvet's acetate found at a garage sale about a decade ago?
  11:09am Dave from Brooklyn:

What would Really shock me would be if any FMU DJ played ANY TRACK from:
1Blows Against theEmpire
2 Sunfighter
3 Dragonfly
4 Baron Von Tollbooth.
  11:10am Listener Bop Monroe:

gonna hijack
hijack the starship!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am steveo:

ugh how did i miss fripp & can?
  11:15am Listener Bop Monroe:

that wasn't REALLY nico was it...?

this is nice.
Avatar 11:16am slugluv1313:

@ mariano -- right?! and as much as i hated high school, being a teenager in suburban NJ, etc. -- songs/moments like this made it possible to kinda disappear into one's own little world (we brought in records to play during art class; "Red Octopus" was a favorite, and at home i had the radio on in my room pretty much all the time)
Avatar 11:17am slugluv1313:

this Durutti Column "Snowflakes" is so very very pretty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am steveo:

mandl tweeting about how much he enjoyed hearing mircacles
Avatar 11:20am Hubig Pie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am tim from champaign (now washington):

Ending the show on a BANG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am TomDash:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am tim from champaign (now washington):

There's a lot of haters of this McCartney xmas song. I think it's great. It's no Run Run Rudolph but it better than a lot of other xmas songs.
  11:41am Listener Bop Monroe:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am TomDash:
