Avatar 10:04pm TDK60:

Hello Jeff. I listen to Neil Y. because he /did/ inhale. So there.
Avatar 10:05pm Jeff Conklin:

Ok
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm chresti:

Good evening Jeff and TDK60 and everyone else in the green ghetto room
  10:06pm Carmichael:

Neil WHO??
  10:07pm Carmichael:

He he chresti, I saw what you did there.
  10:07pm Chris Wardell:

Sup, Jeff? Brother Neil. Funny, I just got done watching the David Crosby documentary, and he talks about Neil quite a bit.
  10:07pm ParUbi:

Hello all
Avatar 10:08pm Jeff Conklin:

PArUbi here for the second time. Nice. Evening, everybody.
Avatar 10:08pm Jeff Conklin:

Not paying attention to what Crosby says has done well for me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm chresti:

Hey Carmichael!
  10:12pm sufferwords:

Dicky Betts a little on that lead
  10:14pm Carmichael:

Betts is one of my guitar idols. Blue Sky is amazing.
  10:14pm Carmichael:

Heya there chresti.
  10:16pm RCU-Keith:

Evening, Jeff. Man, I’ve always wanted to check out Illinois Speed Press, but now I really have to hunt their albums down.
Avatar 10:17pm Jeff Conklin:

Check the nearest dollar bin, for some reason nobody cares and its a very solid album...
Avatar 10:18pm sadiwn:

Evening Jeff, getting here a little late but this Strangefolk is a nice one.
  10:20pm Chris Wardell:

Aww, Croz is ok. A little pompous and unnecessarily surly for sure. If I Could Only Remember My Name is a classic record, and Jerry is all over it.
Avatar 10:21pm sadiwn:

also, I bookmarked that Whims tweet to check out but honestly I saw it and thought "oh, I bet I'll hear from that Sunday night."
  10:23pm Neal:

San Francisco here. Just tuned in about 15 minutes ago. As the legal cannabis kicks. Wonderful music.
Avatar 10:24pm Jeff Conklin:

I'm deeply familiar with Croz's work. I just dont want to hear his opinbion on anything. And his last two records are dogshit.
  10:24pm Carmichael:

While hanging around Portland, I found a local 70s band called Sand. Tremendous find.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm mb:

Evening all. Preach DJ JC.
Avatar 10:24pm Jeff Conklin:

I have that LP, Carmichael, its very good. Weird how its split across two LPs though
  10:27pm Carmichael:

You’ve heard of Sand? Most excellent. I have been playing it on repeat for awhile now. I have to go back to the dude at the record shop, who seemed to know them.
  10:28pm Beau&boris:

Hey
  10:28pm Jeff Conklin:

Of course I know Sand who do you think you’re talking to?!
  10:30pm Carmichael:

Ha ha! New to me, thought it was a great find.
Avatar 10:34pm Jeff Conklin:

There's a great German band called Sand as well. And I have their records too ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm ParUbi:

They have that one album, Golem, right?
  10:40pm Dean:

This album first appeared in the UK on Transatlantic, which was the label on which Gryphon's first album, 1973, was issued.
  10:41pm Carmichael:

Wow, strummed up James Taylor.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi Jeff and ghetts. A blurb in the local paper mentioned that on December 15, there will be a celebration in honor of Robert Hunter up in Woodstock. www.colonywoodstock.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Mr. Pumpy:

I'm up later than usual for a Sunday. It's kind of hot in here in my place in Clifton, and I have a few windows open. I hear the leaves rustling from the wind, and this airy, folky setlist is the perfect compliment. Cheers, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Ken...thanks for the info. I have a place up in Delaware County, and I go through right past Woodstock on the ride to and fro. I'll look into that.
  11:08pm scobot:

Loved that opinion on Neil.
  11:12pm phat:

great show tonight. my weekly dose of psych-jam-hippy stuff. love it.
Avatar 11:12pm Jeff Conklin:

Yeah, time for him to hang it up or at least be quiet
Avatar 11:13pm Jeff Conklin:

psych-jam-hippy is my middle name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Glad to have WiFis to steal (on & off with no reason I know)
- so can get the full FMU experience - slipping in & out of wakefulness with interesting programs in later timeslots...
Love you have this intelligent & well-informed presentation of genre music I don't get exposed to elsewhere.
  11:13pm Dean:

I'm uncomfortable admitting it, but I've always thought Neil Young was overrated. He's a kinda folkie, hippie Springsteen. He's written a good song or two, but generally he isn't the best performer of those songs.

Alas, B"P"B likewise strikes me as a fake. That's probably because The Wire so heavily covered him, and The Wire is for me almost unbearable.
  11:14pm jdcon:

Tuning in from Jackson Wyoming
  11:14pm phat:

and drone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Cool, Mr. Pumpy. If you attend, let us know how it went.
  11:18pm phat:

this Richard Youngs and Raul Refree is remarkable. truly lovely.
Avatar 11:18pm Jeff Conklin:

What up Wyoming. Everybody thats by little brother.
Avatar 11:19pm Jeff Conklin:

I think Neil has done at least 5 perfect albums. But his last 10 years have been shit for the most part.
  11:19pm phat:

I'm jealous that someone gets to make this music. I need a new band
Avatar 11:22pm Jeff Conklin:

@phat: Do it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Neil is a Stylist - in voice & on gittar - which will always hit & miss with various individuals
...& has written more songs than alll but a small handful of people...
Always admired how he goes his own way after his muse
....if @ 74 & after more than a Half Century he isn't always the most relevant is it a shock?
  11:23pm phat:

I should send you copies of one of my old band's records. you'd probably dig them.
  11:23pm Dean:

If by "perfect" you mean "really, really good," then so be it. But if you mean transcendent, rarely to be bettered, then I can't reply meaningfully.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I'd reckon Owen here has absorbed Neil...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm ParUbi:

Love that Owen Tromans number
Avatar 11:24pm Jeff Conklin:

@Dean: Thats ok Dean. I mean perfect as in perfect and your reply isnt necessary
  11:25pm phat:

At least 5 is probably about right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Seems a sober assessment...
  11:26pm Moelarryandjesus:

What was your old band, phat?
  11:28pm phat:

we were called Think. not the 1971 one or the Hungarian one. (couldn't Google obscure band names in 1993).
  11:28pm phat:

self-released stuff
Avatar 11:29pm mariano:

Ahhh, what a lovely tune to come home to. Hi Jeff, evening crew!
  11:31pm phat:

the guitarist runs a blog called Blastitude/Blogstitude
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm ZeeBee:

I am loving the music tonight. I am listening in the kitchen next to my dad, he is digging it all as well.
  11:33pm Mandy:

Hi!
Avatar 11:34pm Jeff Conklin:

Aw, love thast, ZeeBee, thank you. and Hi DAD
Avatar 11:34pm Jeff Conklin:

Hey Mandy
  11:34pm Mandy:

Great music here tonight
Avatar 11:39pm Jeff Conklin:

Thank you
  11:44pm phat:

Sunday evening WFMU is one of the highlights of my week.
  11:47pm Mandy:

This would be great to hear on the radio at night while driving on a road trip. Everyone asleep in the back.
Avatar 11:48pm Jeff Conklin:

@Mandy: Sort of what I picture when putting shows together ;)
  11:49pm dave b.:

Some big negative feelings about Neil Young this evening. His records in the past 10 years are certainly not my favorites, but it's hard for me to call them S#1T. I have too much respect for this man. He was criticized and even sued by the record label he was on in the early 80's after he released Reactor/Hawks and Doves/ Trans/ Shocking Pinks. These were kinda considered bad records too by many at the time. There are real gems on all those albums, as there are a few on his current ones.
Neil is a pure artist.
Avatar 11:52pm Jeff Conklin:

He's indeed an artist. But far from pure. And shilling for Amazon is beyond shitty. Sorry, its how I feel.
  11:53pm phat:

mandy, agreed
  11:54pm Dean:

Mine contribute to the negative feelings. They are directed less at his lifetime of work--good, bad, influential, for some but not for others--than at the notion that he "is a pure artist," which means nothing. That aside, I don't find much to enjoy in his work.
Avatar 11:54pm mariano:

I'm not the biggest Neil Young fan by any stretch, though do I have a lot of respect for him. But man, I really love his Shocking Pinks phase, then there was the new-wavy one, Sample and Hold. I looked up the Wonderin' video not long ago, hadn't seen it since probably the 80s on MTV, and it is a trip.
  11:55pm Mandy:

This sounds like the sun is coming up. The sun must be coming up over the Atlantic right now.
Avatar 11:57pm Jeff Conklin:

Wonderin video is SO GOOD
  11:58pm Mandy:

Great show thanks!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Amazon. Huh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm mb:

Thanks Jeff. Safe travels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Ken From Hyde Park:

Wasn't Neil's song "This Note's For You" about not selling out? I am confused now.
