I like that you have a 3 hour show and you play like 5 songs.
Avatar 10:22pm Jeff Conklin:

It's a two hour show and I play like 7 songs. Thank you
  10:22pm Dean:

chresti and Franco need to see the state Auditor's report on troubled cities. (As do I.) Not pretty.

I've heard that Pharoah track. Pretty special.

Lead harp!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I think it used to be three hours and then it became two after daylight saving time ended.
  10:38pm wendy del formaggio:

@Jeff: Totally, except the drive from where I am to Burlington can be treacherous in the winter. Still, it’s on my radar. Why they aren’t playing The Root Cellar or The Stone Church confounds me.

Got my Garcia Peoples tix last week.
  10:46pm Marie:

Hey Jeff, I think I have heard bits and pieces of your show here and there (I'm a long-time FMU lover)... Just happened to to tune in and your tunes just seem perfect for this chilly November night. And what a nice mix--this Dead song was like perfect in this set yet not something one would logically say might fit in so well (in my very humble opinion). Ah, lots of words...
  10:46pm John from Florham park:

@@Jeff listen to you in bits and pieces, giving the last 45 minutes a listen an so far I like it
  10:46pm wendy del formaggio:

@John from FP: Cold. Snow in the forecast tonight.
10:47pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

Wendy I might have a couch you can crash on.
Avatar 10:47pm Jeff Conklin:

@Marie: Cool. My whole thing is about putting the Dead in a non-shitty jamband context.
Avatar 10:47pm Jeff Conklin:

Where in VT are you Dave?
  10:48pm Marie:

Oh, wow, yes, then I have definitely heard you before and I love what you do :>)

  10:49pm Jeff Conklin:

I’m gonna try and make that Burlington show myself

@Wendy I'm there a bunch, love the Chelsea Royal when I can get there...

@Dave, how many couches do you have available?! ;)
10:50pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

Well there’s possibly floor space. Need to check in with the other folks who live here.
  10:50pm wendy del formaggio:

@Jeff: your statement about “putting the Dead in a non-shitty jamband context” is a big reason why I love your show.
  10:50pm Marie:

I think the Dead are not taken seriously by a lot of people--they're written off as hippy jam band. The thing is, some of their music and jams are amazing and beautiful, wonderful musically.
  10:51pm wendy del formaggio:

@Dave: cool! Cheesemakers or -mongers?
  10:51pm nardo:

saw a tweet from jarnow referring to live/dead being 50 years old today.
  10:51pm Marie:

But, sure, I'm preaching to the choir
Avatar 10:52pm Dreamflower127:

@Dave I am a new Vermonter, who are the Cheese people & where can I find them
10:52pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

@Wendy one of each.
  10:52pm John from Florham park:

@Maria they had a lot of die hard fans plus they were great players
  10:52pm wendy del formaggio:

@Dreamflower: hell yeah! I am at the Chelsea multiple times a week. Will be there tmrw for dinner with my mom. She’s driving up from Jersey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm mb:

This Grateful Dead tune sounds alot like The Grateful Dead which is a cover band i've been told. My friend went with his dad to see them in Chicago in '15??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm ParUbi:

Weirdly, they're reminding me of Television
10:54pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

I will try to be on the comments board in weeks to come with my actual log in on my computer so people can touch base about the Garcia Peoples show in January b
  10:54pm Marie:

@JFP--mm hm
  10:54pm Dean:

I think the key to getting over the internal resistance is to stand back and recognize, among other things, Jerry's musicianship. He was a solid rock guitarist.
  10:54pm wendy del formaggio:

@Dave: Jasper Hill? Shelburne?
Avatar 10:55pm Jeff Conklin:

Look at that, I accidentally played this on its birthday....
  10:55pm John from Florham park:

@Dean always felt that they were not the atoners everyone made them out to be
Avatar 10:55pm Jeff Conklin:

The key to getting over a fear of the Dead is ignoring people who only listen to the Dead....and Instagram...
10:56pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

One of they lead cheese makers at Shelburne Farms and the cheese buyer at south end City Market
  10:58pm wendy del formaggio:

@Dave: That’s some cheese cred! I am a retired monger so I’m outta the loop. But, as Thanksgiving approaches (the official start of Cheese Madness), I instinctively reach for my apron and knife. At least in my mind. :-)
  10:59pm Dean:

My education was twofold: first, I heard Workingman's Dead when it came out, and second, I listened regularly to KPFK's Thursday Lunch program. Early on I realized that Jerry was beyond talented. Later, I got the vibe, the flow, the groove, the marvelously, even if also spontaneously coordinated ensemble that they achieve.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm ParUbi:

They do sound like they're having a good time.
  11:00pm wendy del formaggio:

Okay, I’m signing off. Nice chatting with y’all. Take good care, everyone.

  11:02pm John from Florham park:

  11:02pm wendy del formaggio:

@Jeff: I’m just signing off the playlist. I’m still here. I’ll just be invisible.
  11:03pm Marie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm I am the Upsetter:

Live / Dead made me a super fan too.
  11:06pm nardo:

@jeff well assumed it was in your master plan to play that dead track. that was also the lp that got me listening to the dead more. loved the jazz set this evening too. was just listening to some muhal richards abrams earlier.
  11:06pm John from Florham park:

@Jeff was it true that the dead would let people tape their shows
Avatar 11:07pm Adamsworth:

I had listened to Live/Dead a lot but haven't in like nearly a decade since you could just listen to archives.org stuff!
  11:08pm Marie:

Better title--Rock and Roll Cheese ;.0
Avatar 11:08pm Dreamflower127:

@John it is true. One of the first/only bands that had a separate section for tapers, and a huge part of the reason we have so many shows available today.
  11:09pm John from Florham park:

Dreamflower127 thanks
  11:10pm pp:

@ParUbi : yes, I heard the Television comparisons long ago, and detect it during the snaky runs. Garcia = Verlaine
  11:12pm Dean:

Must disagree. Garcia owns the guitar. Verlaine masterfully controls it. Huge difference.
Avatar 11:12pm Dreamflower127:

@John you're welcome, if you're ever curious, Archive.org has lots of shows for the listening
Avatar 11:13pm Adamsworth:

I thought Party of the Sun had James Toth singing at first! Which is a good thing of course.
  11:13pm John from Florham park:

@dreamflower127 thanks will book mark that,
Avatar 11:14pm Yennifer:

@Dean -- well said

  11:15pm Dean:

Thanks, Yennifer.
  11:15pm John from Florham park:

Love this cover of a stones song
Avatar 11:16pm Adamsworth:

To me, Verlaine sounds like cool architecture, but Garcia sounds like a river?
  11:16pm pp:

probably, but where do you find lyrics like "Hey man let's dress up like cops, Think of what we could do! "
Avatar 11:16pm Adamsworth:

or water in general, depending on the song. Lake, ocean waves, a stream, a creek. Usually water though.
Avatar 11:18pm Adamsworth:

how about lyrics likeI sat down to my supper, 'twas a bottle of red whisky,
I said my prayers and went to bed, that's the last they saw of me.
Don't murder me, I beg of you, don't murder me. Please, don't murder me."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm ParUbi:

just relating what emerged from my first serious listening to the Dead in 20 years. Verlaine. Maybe I'm bonkers.
  11:18pm Dean:

"Cool architecture" works for me! A great epithet.

For me, Garcia is *a guitarist*, Segovia-like. He touches the instrument and generates very bold ideas.
Avatar 11:19pm Adamsworth:

@ParUbi, no that's a good comparison actually
  11:21pm John from Florham park:

On nights like this it is nice to be among chatters who know their music and just soaking up all that knowledge
Avatar 11:21pm Adamsworth:

whoa this Morrison Kincannon song is incredible too!
  11:22pm pp:

somebody once said that writing about music is like dancing about architecture
Avatar 11:23pm Adamsworth:

dancing about architecture sounds cool too though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm ParUbi:

Yes, I think it would be a good thing if more people danced about architecture
  11:25pm Marie:

Hey, great show. Thanks and gnite
  11:25pm pp:

Turns out Martin Mull is credited with that arch/music analogy
Avatar 11:25pm Jeff Conklin:

Going to bed as soon as this show is over
Avatar 11:36pm Adamsworth:

Oh yeah, @Jeff a week or two back you played a Will Oldham song (with Joan Shelley maybe?) and I was curious what your feelings on him are...I don't think you've played him on your show before.
Avatar 11:37pm Jeff Conklin:

I like a bunch of his songs. I think this new one is my favorite. Also love the record with Matt Sweeney
Avatar 11:38pm Adamsworth:

Oh yeah, when that Superwolf album came out I wasn't that into it, but it's now one of my all time faves of his too.

I remember hearing a guy at a guitar store, The Fret House, in Covina, way, way back in the late '80s, early '90s, a Kottke acolyte. Wish I could remember who it was...
  11:55pm Dean:

Oh, crap, I can't imagine narrowing down to my favorite modern New Hampshire folk rock group? I mean, where to begin?
  11:56pm opurt:

Jeff, no offense meant. Guess I should had made it clear that I did not know that this show did not represent your listening habits (which I assumed that it did).
Regardless, great show tonight.

Thanks for the butt kick , Jeff. Later gators
Avatar 11:58pm Fishtown Mike:

Great show, Jeff! Thanks for turning me on to Morrison Kincannon. Good stuff. Just grabbed a copy & going to check it out shortly.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm mb:

Thanks DJ JC.

Not even close. Those are just 2 bands that you have introduced to many others.
