Good evening Daniel and ear-ers. I for one am glad the Pop Group is still around.

Hello, all
Avatar 9:04pm Franco Twinkie:

Daniel! This was the flip side of She Is Beyond Good And Evil - A great dedication song on the oldies radio station in hell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm chresti:

And I am glad to be listening to The Pop Group
Avatar 9:07pm TDK60:

oh, this Pop G. is a '79. But they did a few albums recently too.

Is a black hole sun in orbit?
Avatar 9:12pm Franco Twinkie:

I was pretty indifferent to Y when I bought it back in 1979, so as a result it never got played much and is in really good condition. Now it is worth $18,000,000 and rising. Meanwhile, all my socks have holes and no elastic.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Daniel Blumin:

Franco, the B-Side was added to the reish...
Avatar 9:16pm coelacanth∅))):

Franco i'd offer you $18,000,000.00 for that but i suppose you're holding out for a better price.
...or i could trade you some lightly used socks with no holes for it

Thanks Coel, but I have to think about Chresi and myselfs imminent decrepitude, and how we're going to pay for all the take out food we eat.

Haha coel
Avatar 9:22pm coelacanth∅))):

okay Franco; but you might need socks one day. these wont always be hole-less

Well the way things are going around here, pretty soon it's going to be hot all year long and I'll never want to put on socks again anyway.
Avatar 9:28pm Franco Twinkie:

It's just dumb luck that The Pop Group was ignored or someone didn't borrow it and never give it back.

Now it's coming back to me! My girl friend at the time hated the record and threatened to stop cooking if I ever played it again!
Avatar 9:34pm TDK60:

Franco, You could fly to Jersey City, have station mgr. Ken auction your album off for a gazillion bucks in Monty Hall. We'll have a socks drive for you too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Michael 98145:

"Psycho Killer" was hated in our house. Until it wasn't.
Avatar 9:38pm Franco Twinkie:

What about curry and chicken tika masala? I refuse to exist on a diet of new socks when I can't drive to the Indian grocery any more.
Avatar 9:38pm coelacanth∅))):

the stickyweb has made it easier to find buyers for your records, and made the going prices plummet.
i bought x-ray spex' first (only?) album for 5 bucks c.1978, put it on cassette immediately and never played the record again. i saw it for $100.00 a couple of years later in a store.
now it starts at $2.99 at discogs.
Avatar 9:41pm coelacanth∅))):

great, now i want indian food.
Avatar 9:41pm TDK60:

.. this 'Stars' outfit has a dancey, march forward> drive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm chresti:

I think we should send our socks over to the east coast, it's pretty much flip-flop weather here year round
Avatar 9:42pm northguineahills:

no. just socks and sandals....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm ultradamno:

What about Psycho Chicken?
Avatar 9:43pm northguineahills:

w/o having to work, I basically go through one or two pairs of socks a weeks (sometimes w/ sandals if I'm too lazy to take them off....)
Avatar 9:44pm coelacanth∅))):

i've got the heat cranked up here (well, 62ºf + fleece/flannel shirt) there was ice in my sister's birdbath in the middle of the day today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

If you had to choose: socks or sunglasses?
Avatar 9:46pm northguineahills:

since I lost my 70s vintage Italian sunglasses...., socks....
Avatar 9:46pm coelacanth∅))):

how many socks are we talking about?
Avatar 9:47pm northguineahills:

conductive copper socks?
Avatar 9:48pm coelacanth∅))):

magnet therapy socks?
Avatar 9:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Well it's a funny thing, that web business - it works both ways, example: Just the other day a friend gave me a copy of Sound 8 - Background Music For Your Personal Movies. I thought SCORE! until I googled it and found out it isn't worth anything. But it is a great record! So it brings up the eternal question - why do I collected records anyway? future investment or pleasure in the present?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Tome:

Superb !<>! HI Daniel and all .. 2 pairs of sunglasses a must at all times !<>! this is good jam to just play lead guitar to the horns in the background !<>!

One of the perks working at the tennis courts, forgotten sunglasses
Avatar 9:52pm coelacanth∅))):

my sunglasses have prescription lenses so i should maybe pick the sunglasses; but i can see okay without glasses and it is cold here. so i pick door #3.

Avatar 9:57pm coelacanth∅))):

Franco i fully appreciate that. i've collected a lot of records, but never anything i didn't want to hear.
now both of my places where i store my records (aside from my own residence, where i only have about 280 albums) are likely going to not be available much longer...and i could really use the money...

..some charming and groovy sounds tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm listener 126464:

saw the band 'the world is a beautiful place and...' last night and they were right on
Avatar 10:01pm Franco Twinkie:

Good one Ken. I do need glasses to find my socks.
Avatar 10:06pm Franco Twinkie:

Be careful Coel. The guy that gave me the Sound 8 record sold a big part of his collection - and he had some good shit, THEN he got on a podcast to play nutty records. But he didn't get evicted, so I guess he knew what he was doing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Uncle Michael:

First hour hit the sweet spot, Daniel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm melinda:

hi group!
Avatar 10:11pm coelacanth∅))):

i have maybe 2000 albums i'd like to keep, but i can't count on ever having a living space with enough room again. i wouldn't miss the rest of 'em. i also have 4-500 45s and some 78s i'd be happy to part with.
Avatar 10:13pm coelacanth∅))):

hi melinda
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm chresti:

So, did you say you injured your voice by bumping into a mailbox? I didn't notice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm melinda:

It was 33 here today plus windy, and a guy walked into the coffee shop wearing flip flops.
Avatar 10:16pm TDK60:

Evenin' Melinda. We were talking about socks, then we switched to aesthetics.
Avatar 10:18pm coelacanth∅))):

it's really only noticeable when he hits the high notes in the Donizetti arias
Avatar 10:18pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, my problem is I'm a magpie (hoarder?) But I'm trying (sorta) to deal with it by staying away from the flea market and record stores.
Avatar 10:22pm coelacanth∅))):

yeah Franco my sister's a hoarder with a big house. bad combination! now she's probably getting divorced (finally) and ...
me, even if i was a hoarder i'm limited by not owning my own house. i've only bought <20 records in the last 10-15 years
Avatar 10:23pm coelacanth∅))):

(i've won several during wfmu marathons though)
Avatar 10:24pm Franco Twinkie:

That is amazing to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm chresti:

Sounds like it's nice and nippy over there, in the 30s, I can remember about 3 or 4 times in the last 10 years, that it reached 39 here, early in the morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Daniel Blumin:

Thx, Unc M! Hi, melinda! Oscillating up in this joint!
Avatar 10:28pm Franco Twinkie:

So Coel, your unchecked mania was an aspect of youth? Unlike me, it sound like you started acting like an adult.
Avatar 10:29pm TDK60:

soothing sounds then a tinge of dread?..
Avatar 10:29pm coelacanth∅))):

let's not jump to conclusions!
Avatar 10:32pm Franco Twinkie:

I'm not. Acting is the operative word. Big difference between acting and being.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm ultradamno:

Is that adulting or does that mean producing pornography, I've never been sure.
Avatar 10:32pm TDK60:

I can't find the right adjective..
Avatar 10:35pm coelacanth∅))):

Franco i love records as much as ever but between money and space limitations i'd be a fool to buy even 1/100th of what i want.
i use streaming services that play full albums and often record them to a hard copy (usually a cd...i don't think it's called uploading OR downloading in this case. recording in "real time" through analogue equipment) i know it doesn't compare to vinyl but i pay for the higher quality and it's reasonable...and affordable.
Avatar 10:37pm coelacanth∅))):

...and let's face it, most people -certainly most americans, but i think most people -never grow up!
they play grown-up.
Avatar 10:40pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, just as long as you get your daily requirements, the medium is secondary. As far as Most Americans, who the hell cares what most Americans do or think about anything?
Avatar 10:43pm TDK60:

Such enticingly mysterious, calming yet oddly chilling passages. We sit in meditative awe at our radio consoles, or we dance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm melinda:

digging this
Avatar 10:46pm Franco Twinkie:

Chresti just came into the living room and interjected how she didn't listen to many records anymore, and I reminded her that was because there were to many records in front of the record player!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm chresti:

Yeah, this is great, with that bassline, I'm pacing around the kitchen table, mostly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm chresti:

@On Fillmore
Avatar 10:51pm Franco Twinkie:

That reminds me: There are a couple of new records stores on Fillmore I have to check out next month when we're in San Francisco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm melinda:

Sounds like water and frogs
Avatar 10:52pm coelacanth∅))):

you guys should un-clog that turntable
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm ultradamno:

I got an email today announcing that Third Man has a turntable available for pre-order, if you've got 2.5K burning a hole in your pocket.
Avatar 10:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, We have a new turntable that is under a pile of clothes, I think, and a new receiver too, sitting on a foot stool. My intention is to build a rolling DJ cart that we can push around the house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm chresti:

A dj chariot
Avatar 10:59pm coelacanth∅))):

i may never find out if 2.5k actually would burn a hole in my pocket. i'll guess yes.
Avatar 11:00pm coelacanth∅))):

haha Franco that's awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm ultradamno:

It's "very limited so act quickly", which is what I look for in hardware options. thirdmanstore.com...
Avatar 11:03pm Franco Twinkie:

I just found the new turntable! It's on a chair in front of the old turntable - I just couldn't see it, because it has to much stuff piled on top.
Avatar 11:07pm coelacanth∅))):

that turntable must be really great, because it's expensive.
Avatar 11:10pm TDK60:

It just may be that DJ Daniel has provided a sort of template for our dreams which might emerge later tonight.
Avatar 11:11pm coelacanth∅))):

Franco what's the deal with the old turntable?
Avatar 11:18pm coelacanth∅))):

i'm wobbling over here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Daniel Blumin:

Coela, you're not the only one! And there's no way to unclog the FMU ttable 1, 2, or 3!
Avatar 11:27pm coelacanth∅))):

Avatar 11:37pm Franco Twinkie:

It's just a piece of crap, Coel. Years ago, I was in some sort of state and I threw my Technics into the dumpster, I can't remember why. Chresti and Sean, her son, showed up with this other turntable which sounded fine for awhile - until it didn't. Then the clutter started....It's a story of dysfunction on my part. Well, the solution was to put a new sound system in my truck because I have a ton of CD's. Is it starting to make sense?
  11:40pm deepcreep:

I’m tuned
Avatar 11:41pm coelacanth∅))):

uh - it was starting to
Avatar 11:42pm coelacanth∅))):

...anyway -piece of crap.
Avatar 11:45pm Franco Twinkie:

Basically, yes.
Avatar 11:45pm coelacanth∅))):

...so, you got yourself a $2500.00 turntable to replace it.
i understand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm chresti:

Avatar 11:46pm Franco Twinkie:

Not exactly, but it is another Technics!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm chresti:

No. the 2500 was for the truck sound system
Avatar 11:49pm Franco Twinkie:

That is so off the mark, dear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm chresti:

Thanks for playing these outstanding tracks with top of the line equipment, Daniel
Avatar 11:52pm coelacanth∅))):

i had a dual belt-driven model from the late 1970s. basic, wood/metal, 2-speed, tonearm lifted up at the end but didn't return. (less to go wrong) i used the shit out of that beauty; so much so that the spindle wore down and didn't hold records centered any more.
i got my hands on another, similar model, that worked fine except the tonearm was messed up. turned out the parts were not interchangeable. this right when cds took over and dual stopped making parts for the turntables.
killed me but i threw both of 'em out.
Avatar 11:52pm Franco Twinkie:

Chresti thinks just because I give her money anytime she wants it, I drive around throwing money out the window.
Avatar 11:54pm coelacanth∅))):

there's a video on youboob of you doing that Franco.
Avatar 11:56pm Franco Twinkie:

Well I had a similar dilemma with mine which could have been the same model.
Avatar 11:58pm Franco Twinkie:

Thank you for putting up with our crap, Daniel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm chresti:

I would never think that you would do such a foolhardy thing while driving!
Avatar 11:59pm coelacanth∅))):

Thanks Daniel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am Daniel Blumin:
