An army of shuffleboarders go to war!
  9:02pm Dean:

"...that is, of course, unless the horse..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Sam Segal:

You pitching show titles, Dean? Cause that'd be perfect, if you were.
En garde, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm chresti:

.is a horse, of course...
  9:05pm Dean:

Just sayin' Mr. Ed didn't need to write poems, 'cuz he could recite them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm chresti:

I got a Mr, Ed book for my 7th birthday.
Hello Sam and poetic horse officials.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm chresti:

I thought they were holding pic-up sticks or "geezer grabbers"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Sam Segal:

The hats are a dead give away for shuffle boarders, Chresti. Welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm chresti:

The guy facing the camera has a different hat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Sam Segal:

He's the colonel.
Avatar 9:15pm Minx∅:

dying was the best thing to happen here
my ghost is allowed to express itself freely
and now i emerge as the great horse-poet i always knew
i lived a long life so shed no tear
and i don't have to endure the questionable riding posture
of that dumbass coelacanth the ersatz buckaroo

the end
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm chresti:

Brav-O Minx-0!
Avatar 9:20pm coelacanth∅:

thanks a lot chresti. encourage her.
she never spoke to me like that when she was alive.
  9:22pm Dean:

Never registered that Bacharach is just over two weeks my mom's junior. Both still kicking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm chresti:

Did you know she was a poet when she was alive? @coel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Asheville Jon:

really liked that Purple Mountains song, thanks for playing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm chresti:

Does your mom like Bacharach?
Avatar 9:24pm coelacanth∅:

chresti i did not. i'm still not sure about it.
  9:25pm Dean:

My mom adores Bacharach, as now do I.
Avatar 9:25pm coelacanth∅:

...but as long as she's still in touch i'm happy.
even if she calls me a dumbass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm Sam Segal:

Hey, Asheville John! Could not recommend the entire Purple Mountains record more highly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm Sam Segal:

@NGH: I checked out Mouse on Mars upon your recommendation.
Avatar 9:27pm coelacanth∅:

i doubt my mom adores Bacharach. i don't think she ever listens to music actually. sadly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Sam Segal:

@Coel! Thank Minx for gracing us with her presence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Asheville Jon:

yeah, gonna check it out!
Avatar 9:28pm northguineahills:

This a fave MOM of mine!
Avatar 9:28pm coelacanth∅:

i would Sam but she ran/teleported off somewhere.
  9:28pm Dean:

Is this a tribute to Paul Krassner? Yippie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Sam Segal:

I am gonna come clean with you before I even Google him, Dean. I don't know who Paul Krassner is.
  9:34pm Dean:

He was a Yippie (like Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin...). Died recently at a ripe old age. Yippie!
  9:37pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Sam Segal:

Ah! Seems like something I shoulda known. Thanks for schooling me, Dean. Speaking of Abbie Hoffman, have you folks heard about this insane 38 disc Woodstock boxed set that's coming out? It actually seems kind of cool, just given the amount of interview material they have with attendees that never made it into the movie. Probably won't be shelling out for the 38 disc version though.
  9:38pm Dean:

No, but I am aware of a 222 CD box set from DG, all Bach. That's right, two hundred and twenty two. Might just have to spring for it...
  9:39pm Dean:

(In the spirit of Abbie Hoffman, I'd *love* to steal the Bach box.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Sam Segal:

Steal That Bach(s)!
  9:43pm Dean:

Rather, Steal This Bach. Damn, that's good!
Avatar 10:09pm coelacanth∅:

in my sister's present house the "powder room" has wallpaper that simulates shelves full of books. they went away for 3 weeks almost immediately after moving in and i was in charge. most of the books had blank spines, so i gave many of them titles; some titles i made up, some of actual books.
"steal this book" is one of them, and the kids, when they discovered what i'd done, especially liked that one. (probably even more so because their surname is hoffmann, and i did print the author's name on that one)
Avatar 10:10pm coelacanth∅:

(boy that's a long post for a pointless story...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Sam Segal:

Hahaha, that's a great story, Coel. Remember any other titles?
Avatar 10:17pm coelacanth∅:

real ones? galapagos; the way of zen; fractals everywhere; delta of venus; secret life of plants; a triple set:inca, maya, aztec...
hmmm kinda blanking out...
Avatar 10:17pm coelacanth∅:

...everybody poops
  10:18pm Dean:

I have ^that book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm chresti:

Haha, sounds like a perfect thing to do while alone in someone's house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm chresti:

In sharpie ink, I hope
Avatar 10:21pm coelacanth∅:

the fake ones, i did several books called "the rise and fall of"...civilization as we know it; ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars; Beverly Murray's souffle...
and also "chingoo and martha have an adventure" which is a childrens book i wrote but never published.
Avatar 10:21pm coelacanth∅:

chresti it was fun!
Avatar 10:22pm northguineahills:

nap time, thanks, Sam!
Avatar 10:22pm coelacanth∅:

then the kids did some of their own, and my niece did some pretty clever ones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm Sam Segal:

Rest well, NGH!
Avatar 10:23pm coelacanth∅:

till then, ngh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm chresti:

When I was about 5, I went to visit a friend down the street, nobody was home and the door was open, I walked around until I found Mom's vanity and proceeded to smear various shades of her lipstick on my face
Avatar 10:26pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 10:31pm coelacanth∅:

i would never have entered someone else's house uninvited (unless i was in the mood for a beating, which was rare)
but one time a friend came over and i was upstairs and he just walked in. once i determined that he'd come in without anyone opening the door for him i think i was in a state of shock! such a foreign idea to me.
  10:34pm Charles Manson:

I would never have entered someone else's house uninvited...
Avatar 10:36pm Charles Mingus∅:

i would've, turkey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm doctorjazz:

Can I pull up a chair?
Avatar 10:40pm coelacanth∅:

imagine if charlie manson mouthed off to Charles Mingus. maybe he wouldn't have lived to corrupt the minds of his sheeple and folks who don't listen to wfmu would never have heard of him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Sam Segal:

Please do, Doc! And you, Charlies, you stay too.
Avatar 10:41pm coelacanth∅:

i seem to have lost my charlie horse
  10:50pm Chris Farrell:

Hello Hoboken! How y’all doing tonight?!

Lol hell-low horse-friendly folk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm Sam Segal:

Hello, Chris! Hello, Farrell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm doctorjazz:

Great track, whatta trio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm Sam Segal:

Saw Uri Caine live several months back. Incredible live performer. Had no idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm doctorjazz:

Saw him a number of times years back. He put out a number of great projects on the Winter & Winter label. I caught his Mahler for jazz group and DJ (not what he called it) at the old Knitting Factory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm doctorjazz:

Discography of Caine...man,had he been involved in great stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm doctorjazz:

Speaking of great stuff, this set ìs killing it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Sam Segal:

Thanks, Doc. Pardon the brief dead air. Had to break up a little kitty kerfuffle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm chresti:

Enjoying this set, also,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm chresti:

Listening on the get ready for bed speaker. I'm in my pjs and ready to go to bed, still listening tho, goodnight horse fellows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm doctorjazz:

I like picturing "The Sauna Sessions".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Sam Segal:

Goodnight, Chresti! Sleep well!
  11:22pm Carmichael:

Heya Sam and Hole in the Wall-ers.
  11:25pm Chris Farrell:

I was invited to a prestigious track and field event in elementary school. I never finished the race a received a disqualifying time. I also claimed to have read the entire works of Kurt Vonnegut that year as well. 5th grade was a time of true market capitalization.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Sam Segal:

Carmichael! Funny seeing you here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm Sam Segal:

Chris, you gotta write poetry, man.
  11:28pm Charles Manson:

I received an award for reading in 4th grade. I disputed it. "I didn't read that much," I told the teacher. "Yes, but you read more advanced material." Yet I hadn't! Consequently, I've spent my entire life trying to earn that award.
Avatar 11:28pm coelacanth∅:

-or teach your horse to
  11:28pm Dean:

I admit, I am Charles Manson.
Avatar 11:30pm coelacanth∅:

i'm charles monsoon
Avatar 11:31pm coelacanth∅:

...i'm not sure i'd even ever heard of Kurt Vonegut by the 5th grade
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Sam Segal:

I'm Charles Manson! (like we're doing a Spartacus thing)
Avatar 11:34pm coelacanth∅:

or we're all on to tell the truth right now
  11:36pm Dean:

I'm Phil Collins!
  11:36pm Chris Farrell:

I had a fascination with that world. I remember being mesmerized by the idea of 1984 by George Orwell. Now that I’m older I can appreciate stuff like that a bit more. “They are the salt of the earth” (Vonnegut talking about science fiction writers).
Avatar 11:37pm coelacanth∅:

i'm phil o'dendron
Avatar 11:42pm Franco Twinkie:

Straight from the after the fact and beyond the point desk: When I was a younger person I worked in a hospital kitchen, all my co-workers were at dinner, so I had the run of the place. A request from one of the floors came in for a salad, so I decided to make the salad...out of garbage. When the ladies who usually took care of such things came back from their break all hell broke loose. I was dragged into the office and interrogated, but I denied everything.
Avatar 11:43pm coelacanth∅:

i love Vonnegut. i decided at some point that after reading all Vonnegut books that had somehow ended up in my possession, and the ones my sister has/had, which is 10-12, i'd read the balance if his output in the order in which they were published...but i haven't gotten very far. there're several other authors i want to read everything by; and many books people have recommended.
  11:44pm Dean:

I loved (and still love) Vonnegut, but I soon moved on...to Joyce, Woolf, Lessing, Rabelais, James, Brookner...Seidel, Ashbery, Dickinson...
Avatar 11:45pm coelacanth∅:

oh this Oren guy is in my bedtime playlists
Avatar 11:46pm coelacanth∅:

coincidentally just yesterday i bumped finnegan's wake up to near the top of my list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Sam Segal:

He's got some wonderful wind-down tracks, Coel.
Avatar 11:47pm coelacanth∅:

...and the doors of perception
Avatar 11:49pm coelacanth∅:

"flypaper" and "behold" are the 2 albums i've been listening to/falling asleep to. neither is as mellow as this. i need more noise to drift off, apparently.
  11:49pm Carmichael:

Way to go, coel! Wake is a masterpiece. Just remember every chapter is written in a different style.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm doctorjazz:

Lovely, time to crash (too late, what the hell).
Younger daughter turns 21 in 10 minutes, sheesh!
Thanks, great stuff, Sam.
Night all!
Avatar 11:50pm coelacanth∅:

(although my playlists all culminate in very mellow drones...like Jacob Kirkegaard and Pauline Oliveros...)
Avatar 11:51pm northguineahills:

got here for most of Ambarchi…..
Avatar 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

'night doc
Avatar 11:52pm coelacanth∅:

Carm i did not know that...even more intriguing then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm doctorjazz:

Falling asleep t to Vijay Iyer (Trio)'s Break Stuff recently. Great album (piano trips generally work for me, no matter how get "in"or "out" they are)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Sam Segal:

Love that record, Doc. Sleep well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm doctorjazz:

Piano trios...
Avatar 11:53pm coelacanth∅:

i used to crash to the necks a lot, but it's usually too depressing. (regardless of it being beautiful)
  11:53pm Chris Farrell:

Night gang sincerely hope I didn’t clutter the stalls
Avatar 11:54pm coelacanth∅:

did you leave some graffiti on the walls? some horse poetry?
  11:54pm Dean:

If I want to sleep: Chopin.

Ambarchi is just a wee bit too Cluster/Eno for me. Tangerine Dream or Froese solo? Sure. But not Cluster and Eno.
  11:55pm Carmichael:

I just learned how to remove spiral book binding using a drill and hex key. I have 200 more to recycle.
Avatar 11:56pm coelacanth∅:

Chopin and Satie make up most of another bedtime playlist for me.
another is japanese koto/shakuhachi music.
Avatar 11:58pm Franco Twinkie:

If I need help sleeping, like now, I drink opium tea. Works every time.
Avatar 12:00am coelacanth∅:

i take a tiny hit of herb and put lavender oil on my bed. i still need music though.
Avatar 12:00am coelacanth∅:

where can i get opium tea?
Avatar 12:01am Franco Twinkie:

I live with a tea specialist.
Avatar 12:01am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam! g'night, horse thieves.
