Music for rebuilding civilization and 59 other things you'll need to know, to improve your intellectual world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Otis Fodder:

Ready for improvement
Avatar 4:00pm Martinibomb:

Wow! Right into it today! 1pm on the dot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Goblin. Yes. Everything is right with the world :-)
Avatar 4:02pm Martinibomb:

This is a freeform mix today for sure. I just threw a pile of stuff together and recorded it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You and Otis always say that tho ... and it is always immaculate. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Jan Turkenburg:

Boy, that's strange to hear all of the sudden :-) :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Avatar 4:05pm Martinibomb:

This is a pretty cool song Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Y'all are talented :-)
Avatar 4:06pm Mr Fab:

Medium Cool = high coolness
Avatar 4:07pm Martinibomb:

Many thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab and @Jan - you left without saying goodbye! lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh wow - a mix by Marco! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

One of my favourite Petula songs :-)
Avatar 4:10pm Martinibomb:

I love her too and yeah this song especially good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate the Poppy Family! lol.
You harshed my mellow, man ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was going to say ... that I'm playing my favourite Petula Clark song on my birthday show so I'll keep it a secret for now.
Avatar 4:14pm spacebrother:

I often "throw things together" for shows and hope for the best, all the while looking for themes and correspondences.
Avatar 4:14pm spacebrother:

@Georgy - When is your birthday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Greg!! You are also magnificent at the mix :-)
Avatar 4:15pm Martinibomb:

@GG really hah I think my upbringing I don't have any kind of association with them. Is there a reason?
Avatar 4:15pm spacebrother:

Aww. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Friday, June 7th - rather conveniently placed for a Flange party ;-)
Avatar 4:15pm spacebrother:

You're much better.
Avatar 4:16pm spacebrother:

I LOVE the Eletrosoniks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I grew up in Vancouver when they were the town heroes so played every five seconds on the radio. I feel the same way about "Popcorn". They're both an overkill thing to be fair ;-)
Avatar 4:17pm spacebrother:

Avatar 4:17pm Martinibomb:

@GG Ah that makes sense. Yeah I never heard them at all until maybe 15 years ago?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Greg - I'm blushing now. :-)
Avatar 4:19pm spacebrother:

Avatar 4:20pm spacebrother:

Hey Mbomb - Smooth flying and nice mix today!
Avatar 4:20pm Martinibomb:

@Spacebrother I need to really listen to them more but yeah ths is right up my alley too. I've heard them before but I haven't dived into super deep yet.
Avatar 4:20pm Martinibomb:

Ah! Thank you very much Mister SpaceBrother, sir! ;-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is lovely and dreamy :-)
Avatar 4:21pm Martinibomb:

Have you folks heard Pete Drake?
Avatar 4:22pm spacebrother:

There is a collection of Baltan and Dissevelt on Basta.
Avatar 4:23pm Martinibomb:

I think I'm just going to dive in and listen to all their stuff this week
Avatar 4:24pm spacebrother:

Was Drake the guitarist who us famous for "Forever?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is an unusual Ventures sound - is this later? It's very good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Jan Turkenburg:

I have that Baltan-Dissevelt Box. It's worth every cent!
Avatar 4:25pm Martinibomb:

@SB you got it! He's that talkbox guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Jan Turkenburg:

"I'm just a guitar, everybody picks on me"
Avatar 4:27pm Martinibomb:

@Jan is that one of the lyrics?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Jan Turkenburg:

yes, I believe so. I'll look it up to be sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Rich in Washington:

Stupid work. I am listening but reading and commenting is super difficult today.
Avatar 4:30pm Mr Fab:

GG, The Ventures did a million albums, and getting into the '60s they did get a bit fuzzy/psych-y at times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - I like it! :-)
Avatar 4:33pm Martinibomb:

In my head its late 70s but I think that's because I have it on a compilation from the late 70s that I've had since i was a kid yeah thought this was an odd song from them more jazz or something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Jan Turkenburg:

Found 'Pete Drake - I'm just a guitar' on "www.sharpeworld.com 23-10-2003"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Fun fact - one of my college friends from the 80s had an older brother who was Joe Jackson's first drummer. Joe started his career playing pub gigs in Portsmouth in a pub with the greatest name ever. (Greater than the Flange even!) The Fawcett Inn (as it is on Fawcett Road). It helps if you do it in a British accent ;-)
My partner just said that the Fawcett Inn has just started putting on punk gigs again. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Jan Turkenburg:

Avatar 4:39pm Mr Fab:

Looked it up - "Wack Wack" was on the Ventures's wonderfully named 1967 album "Guitar Freakout."
Avatar 4:39pm Martinibomb:

Haha like *Force it in* is that how you pronounce it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - got it in one! For a while it was known locally as "The Crap Shag". lol.
Avatar 4:40pm Martinibomb:

I wonder if there are some more songs that are similar to Wack Wack?
Avatar 4:40pm Martinibomb:

is wack wack a cover?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I *think* there's a Mongo Santamaria version of "Wack Wack"?
Avatar 4:43pm Martinibomb:

The Fawcett Inn reminds me of this place in Wheeler Oregon.. The Wheeler Inn. On the roof they had a guy rolling a girl in a wheelbarrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - lol!!!! There you go. Ribald puns and pub signs ;-)
Avatar 4:45pm Mr Fab:

the inar-web sez "Wack Wack" was: "Originally by The Capitols, The Young-Holt Trio"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ohhhhhhhhhhh - I love Tom Scott's version of "Today" :-)
Avatar 4:46pm Martinibomb:

So does Pete Rock :-)
Avatar 4:46pm Martinibomb:

That's how I got to Tom Scott
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Young Holt Trio ... that rings a bell. I want to say maybe I have a stereo test album with them on?? Dunno.
Avatar 4:48pm Martinibomb:

That rings a bell for me too. I"m pretty sure I downloaded them from you via AudioGalaxy! hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

THIS IS FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 4:48pm Martinibomb:

I oh I fogot to say my friend who did the mix last week I know him from AG too lol
Avatar 4:48pm spacebrother:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You know .... you say that. That definitely rings a bell now! :-) God, I miss the Audiogalaxy days. All the groups and you could recommend stuff. That was fantastic :-)
Avatar 4:49pm Martinibomb:

Yeah this cover of paranoid is supe super cool knew you guys would love it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I loved the mix last week! :-)
Avatar 4:51pm spacebrother:

Baltan/ Dissevelt collection is about $50 plus shipping. Hmm.
Avatar 4:51pm Mr Fab:

So many kooky versions of "Paranoid," love 'em all , but that was just the bees' knees!
Avatar 4:51pm Martinibomb:

I bet you were friends with him on AG too GG.. good chance hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Probably! :-)
Avatar 4:52pm Martinibomb:

@SB man that is a fantastic little set. I want to get it now seems like a perfect little collection from that era
Avatar 4:53pm spacebrother:

I like the cover of Paranoid by Cindy Und Bert.
Avatar 4:54pm spacebrother:

Nice! The Bing remix you did.
Avatar 4:56pm Martinibomb:

@SB have you seen the ACID Pro Next stuff? where it can separate a song into multi tracks? 3 right now. Drums, Vox and *Everything Else*
Avatar 4:57pm Martinibomb:

I'm kind of excited to play with it for edits/remixes like this Bing thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Jan Turkenburg:

great edit, MB!
Avatar 4:58pm Martinibomb:

Many thanks Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Irene Handel :-)
Avatar 4:59pm Martinibomb:

oh right wasn't she in "That's my Boy!"
Avatar 5:00pm spacebrother:

@MB - No! I worked at a place that was trying to create that sort of software for movie soundtrack restorations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yes - also "Morgan", one of my favourite films :-)
Avatar 5:01pm spacebrother:

Haven't heard this Ives. He's like Walter Brennan. Every time you turn around there's another record you haven't seen.
Avatar 5:02pm Martinibomb:

@SB how far did they get with their software?
Avatar 5:02pm Mr Fab:

"One Hour Ahead Of The Pose" - he's trying to out-run the poseurs
Avatar 5:02pm Martinibomb:

I have a soft spot for Ives and i hadn't heard this song either.
Avatar 5:04pm spacebrother:

I think they had a working beta test, but I wasn't working there after. The company was Post Haste Sound in L.A.

ACID pro is $599! Any other options?
Avatar 5:04pm spacebrother:

My favorite Ives is his song about the comet Kahoutek.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm going to catch up on the second half tomorrow during cooking - but thank you for the first half which I have loved to pieces! Fabulous mix :-) Huge hugs everyone and see you all on Friday :-)
Avatar 5:05pm spacebrother:

See you GG!
Avatar 5:05pm Martinibomb:

@SB not yet tho it looks like they plan to licence their software to other companies so I expect ableton, protools in the next year or two
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Jan Turkenburg:

By Georgy!
Avatar 5:06pm Martinibomb:

okay thanks for listening take care o yer bad self GG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Jan Turkenburg:

MB, who did that Good Bad Ugly-rendition?
Avatar 5:08pm Martinibomb:

@Jan.. well it's a loop/edit I made for VO and I didn't have the name on the audio. I know who it is but I can't seem to get it out of my brain right now if that makes sense?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Jan Turkenburg:

perfectly :-)
Avatar 5:16pm spacebrother:

I remember Grace Jones' great videos in the 1980s.
Avatar 5:17pm TDK60:

Hey Martinibomb.
Avatar 5:17pm Martinibomb:

Back when they spent millions of dollars on such things

Avatar 5:32pm Mr Fab:

Loves me some Slits. Soemthing I only learned in recent years - Johnny Rotten's wife is the MOTHER of Ari Up from the Slits. Johnny apparently likes 'em older 'n' bolder.
Avatar 5:32pm Martinibomb:

Avatar 5:34pm Martinibomb:

@fab you always have all this wonderful knowledge. you ought to be hostin a show. I know you don't have time but hopefully some day
Avatar 5:37pm Mr Fab:

ha, well like I say, the STREAM is my show!
Avatar 5:40pm Martinibomb:

Avatar 5:42pm spacebrother:

He should. I'll help.
Avatar 5:43pm Martinibomb:

I could even make you a, "Mr Fab Predicts" Spooky voice over music or whatever you want.
