I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Hello, Mayuko! Greetings, playverts!
  12:09pm rw:

Oh, I forgot to say hello. Hello!

If I were a character in that illustration I'm pretty sure I'd be the rabbit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm coelacanth∅:

rw, they set up their blankets hours ahead of time, and spill coffee and crumbs on it so no one else takes it over
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm david w:

Grooving along! Hello, Mayuko and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Helping out the Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie today. Picking up trash on the block and they have chalk for kids to decorate the sidewalk.
Avatar 12:10pm JosephB:

Hello Mayuko and Vertigoers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm chresti:

rw-I used the link from the drummer e-mail,
  12:10pm rw:

Yeah, I was noticing the coffee stains.

  12:12pm rw:

chresti, I figured it was something like that but I was hoping it was some sort of voodoo time travel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm chresti:

Mayuko is the voodoo master that opened the gate early
Avatar 12:19pm JosephB:

Hey rw! Speaking of coffee stains, I need to get up and make some
Avatar 12:19pm JosephB:

Coffee, that is, not stains...
  12:19pm rw:

Joe, quit being lazy. Make the stains too.

Hi Vertigans!
  12:35pm P-90:

Greetings Mayuko and Vertigo Radio Clan, listening from the Midwest this week, where one has to remember to tune in an hour “earlier”...
  12:36pm rbrt:

these are some fun tunes! Happy Saturday
Avatar 12:36pm Mayuko:

Hello, Henry and P-90! Happy to have you guys here!
Avatar 12:37pm Mayuko:

Hey rbrt!!
  12:37pm P-90:

...always love to hear music about toy balloons, tin soldiers, Japanese cyborgs, etc...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm listener james from westwood:

Aha, thought this might be from one of the Soothing Sounds for Baby discs!
  12:38pm rbrt:

hi Mayuko! how's everything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm listener james from westwood:

Soothing Sounds for Copy Editors, too!
  12:38pm David D:

Hello Mayuko, this is hypnotic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm fred:

I don't know why I get a newsletter about shows in Berlin, but it seems Phew is playing there next week (and today in Denmark). Alas, and unsurprisingly, she's not playing in Paris
  12:39pm rbrt:

yeah not sure what this says about me that I love the soothing baby sounds as well lol
  12:41pm P-90:

Raymond Scott is the Godfather of soothing sounds...with an edge
  12:43pm P-90:

...and Tomita is a musical descendant of Scott in many ways
Avatar 12:43pm Mayuko:

@james Yah! Soothing sounds for anybody, I'd say!
Avatar 12:44pm Mayuko:

Welcome, David D!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm fred:

Speaking of harp, I saw a very good show yesterday by a band called Hen Ogledd that featured an electric harp (bass, synth and electronics too). Weird music bending genres, strange they got no airplay on WFMU (even though Richard Dawson is part of the band)
Avatar 12:47pm Mayuko:

@fred Ha! I will check that out! By the way how was that YMO cover thing? All harpsichord or something?
  12:48pm rbrt:

maybe the little squirrel just needs some snacks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm coelacanth∅:

i have heard Richard Dawson on wfmu, don't know if it was with that band
Avatar 12:49pm JosephB:

This Wally Badarou is the perfect soundtrack for today's cover image
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm coelacanth∅:

i remember that incident
  12:56pm rbrt:

wow all this drama with 4th graders??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Doug Schulkind:

Not tired, Mayuko. Not ever.
  1:00pm rbrt:

it is QUESTIONABLE lol, I don't think we get past it
Avatar 1:01pm Sem:

Hello, Mayuko, those of the Vertigo ilk and those not inclined that way naturally, but prepared to give the ilk a chance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Dropof Goldensun:

Hey Mayuko and Listenerds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm fred:

Yeah, solo harpsichord. Unequal, but some covers were pretty good (Rydeen and The end of Asia come to mind). I talked with the guy after his set, he's really more of a Sakamoto fan and will be focusing on his solo music next (he's working on Self Portrait, which could be a good fit)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm fred:

I love your mic breaks, I even feel they've been getting too short recently
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm chresti:

They are beasts after all...4th graders
  1:07pm JakeGould:

Hello Mayuko! Such a nice day to blowtorch your animal neighbors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

New Drummer Stream DJs are popping up like dandelions!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm nostrangerer:

Very interesting about 4th graders as early encounters for learning social behavior.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Doug Schulkind:

@Ken From Hyde Park
At least you didn't say "like kudzu"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm fred:

I hadn't heard this Battles song in a while
  1:12pm JakeGould:

It’s unfair that the Drummer Stream program grid is buried on the site, so here it is. Very nice to see it being fleshed out. wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm coelacanth∅:

when i used pandora this battles song got played frequently on my ooioo station
very happy to hear it again!
  1:17pm Rickwaukee:

Will be looking into Battles - Has Atlas been played before? I feel like I've heard it previously.
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

Hi Sem, Dropof, happy to have you guys here! Welcome on board, nostrangerer!
Thanks for listening!!
  1:20pm Jeff g.:

Wow, again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm nostrangerer:

This sounds like how I remember my 4th grade socialization
Avatar 1:21pm Mayuko:

Hola Jake! Children seem to be always blowtorching each other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm chresti:

Mayuko, play Xome for the 4th graders, when they get out of hand
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm fred:

@Rickwaukee: It must have been played back when it was released. I was already listening to WFMU only back then, and I saw Battles when Tyondai Braxton was still in the band
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

DJ Kudzu should apply for a Friday night slot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm coelacanth∅:

chresti how was the party?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm fred:

@chresti: I'd rather save it for when meetings get too long
Avatar 1:26pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee It's hard to believe nobody played it before. Though I was shocked that I had never played Battles before myself!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm melinda:

hi friends
  1:28pm Rickwaukee:

Well, if I heard it anywhere, it was here on . . . . OMG THE SHAGGS!!!!
Avatar 1:28pm JosephB:

It's a real challenge to sing along to this song
Avatar 1:29pm Mayuko:

@nostrangerer "This" means Xome?! My Xome kind of days started around 5th grade, you must have matured fast!
  1:30pm Rickwaukee:

Saw a girl on TV yesterday who had the same speech affect - she's in the 2nd grade
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

@chresti Haha! Good idea! & I've got a lot of stuff in addition to Xome to play for them at times like that!!!
  1:31pm Rickwaukee:

This is the 2nd Johnston track I've heard on 'the radio' in the last 3 days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm chresti:

It was good! It was for a friend that recently had a book published, as per tradition, a cake was made and Franco decorated it with an image of the cover. @coel Sad I missed Blumin though..
Avatar 1:34pm Mayuko:

@fred Haha! I see Xome is apparently really useful in many ways.
Avatar 1:34pm Mayuko:

Welcome, melinda!!
  1:35pm rbrt:

I love this song It's impossible
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Michael 98145:

looks like i'm just in time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Michael 98145:

{ nasty squirrels! }
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm nostrangerer:

I started writing the comment during Xome and when the song change as I pressed post I thought, yes this one too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm fred:

@chresti: A friend just got a prize for best Ph.D thesis in arts and aesthetics (it's about DIY noise). I'll miss that party though, I'll be seeing Matmos that day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm chresti:

@nostranger, me too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Michael 98145:

here come the wolves www.seattletimes.com...
Avatar 1:40pm Mayuko:

Welcome on board, Michael 98145! Funny I imagined that the rabbit and raccoon kids had made fun of the squirrel or something before this blowtorch incident. So ALL of them are possibly nasty!

That's what I learned from all the 4th graders' dramas I heard anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm chresti:

@fred, Matmos is worth skipping a party for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Roger and Amanda played a Matmos track just this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm fred:

@chresti: Also, they're playing at my fave venue, which is pretty small (200 people, maybe). Chances are she'd be angry at me if I missed that show for her party
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Michael 98145:

Always enjoy this program and the things you have discovered for us ..
  1:48pm Rickwaukee:

Just watched Making of "I'm Not In Love" on the YouTube yesterday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Dropof Goldensun:

Gotta love G&C's production!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm nostrangerer:

I'm always pleased with young folks like vintage obscure mainstream like Godley and Creme. I wonder how do they know about this :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Mayuko. Everybody tune in next week and see if Morris Mouse was able to put out the forest fire. Maybe Nate K. can provide an update Tuesday night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Michael 98145:

Yes. Thank you again, Mayuko.

  1:59pm P-90:

Thank you DJ Mayuko! You crafted a show that felt like a room full of children’s toys, surrounded by the faint echoes of the desires and frustrations of childhood.
Avatar 1:59pm JosephB:

Thanks for the trip back to the drama of fourth grade Mayuko! See everyone next week!
