Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Cmurtha:

Howdy everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm sphere:

hullo olivia and all :)
Avatar 12:11pm northguineahills:

I'm more of a mood for a spicy puttanesca w/ my ravioli.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm sphere:

puttanesca is awesome.
Avatar 12:13pm βrian:

I slather my puttanesca on wild rice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm olivia:

jdaFromCologne: I had ravioli a couple nights ago!
  12:17pm yippie:

John bender show in Brooklyn tomorrow im excited
Avatar 12:17pm jdaFromCologne:

:-) selfmade? done that once.never ever …
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm olivia:

noooo, Trader Joes has some half-cooked, mostly ready onesthat you just boil for a few minutes and then they're done
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm adampsyche:

yay it's ravioli day
Avatar 12:24pm still b/p:

Mmmm. Rave-ioli! Attempts at pan-frying pre-made stuff at home leads to meh results, but when done right at dine-out opportunities, and with modern filling variations...soooo good.
Avatar 12:25pm jdaFromCologne:

Trader Joes – aldi – german – we probably eat the same stuff…
  12:27pm bore:

lovely show
  12:28pm βrian:

Trailer Joe's is a crap shoot. Some products are nice, others are downright scary.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Listener Howard and the Cats:

I love your show so fucking much, Olivia. That's all :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm sphere:

i just realized that ravioli is the plural. so we can't have ravioliolis. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm ⓘⓚⓔ:

We have Aldi in the U.S. too but ours are a tiny bit more downmarket than the German version, I think. Like an attempt at a blue-collar Trader Joe's. TJ's attempts more of a "discount gourmet" and is better. Not all of it works, but it's usually cheap enough that it's worth trying.

Also, great sounds!
Avatar 12:33pm northguineahills:

@βrian: I don't hit the TJ's here, as it's in the suburban part of town, and there's a good organic supermarket near my home. But, I do miss their vegan chorizo (better then the real thing, and I'm an omnivore).

There's an Aldi here too, just haven't visited yet, I prefer to shop locally owned businesses (when possible).
  12:35pm Garden Variety Lurker:

Trader Joe's and Aldi started from the same company. It may have been brothers who split up over something but I might have dreamt that part.
Avatar 12:36pm jdaFromCologne:

aldi (over here) is "locally - basically everywhere. :-) TJ was - as far as i remember from nyc - not too bad, lots of precooked food u could take home. we dont have that here…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Cmurtha:

That's right Garden. It was over selling cigs. I do almost all my shopping in Columbus at Aldis/Costco. I give Aldis a big thumbs up. Trader Joes - thumbs up if you want certain things, but it may just be the ones in Manhattan are not up to par as they didn't win me over.
  12:38pm Garden Variety Lurker:

I guess it was over selling cigarettes... https://slate.com/culture/2013/12/aldi-grocery-store-best-in-america-related-to-trader-joes.html
  12:38pm βrian:

Haven't been to an Aldi yet. We have one but it's on the OTHER side of the isthmus. We're kind of stuck with the Food Whole which has gotten a little shabby, of late.
Avatar 12:39pm jdaFromCologne:

alsi are 2 brothers… thats why we have aldi north (germany) and aldo south (germany). but they sell mainly the same stuff, one of them bought TJ years ago… since we have LIDL as well, both try to upgrade their markets…
Avatar 12:41pm jdaFromCologne:

enough for today. getting hungry. see ya next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Cmurtha:

The aldis in the U.S have been updating their stores to have more refrigerator space/nicer interiors. LIDL I think are just starting to come over to the U.S. Here is hoping the Germans can drive the Waldens into bankruptcy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Cmurtha:

Have a good day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Booz:

Avatar 12:50pm still b/p:

I get a boatload of my food from TJ's, BUT if you expect reliability in product line endurance and month-to-month supply, "O, that way madness lies."
Avatar 12:51pm Davee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm steveo:

@nwsnewyorkny just released a new map forecasting 3-4 inches of snow for NYC, 4-6 for Newark

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Booz:

This show is da balm for today's weather (both meteorological and cultural)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm listener james from westwood:

Lovely sounds this first hour!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Another name for pasta leftovers should be "ravioldies."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm listener james from westwood:

Rats, snow's supposed to peak during the evening rush in the NYC area. Glad I work at home but hoping my pals motor homeward safely!
  1:07pm JakeGould:

Hello Olivia! Finally got to see the Central Park duck. It’s so tiny compared to regular normal American ducks.
Avatar 1:08pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

We have a bunch of Aldis in Western NY. Some are better than others, even with or without the updates. Lots of organic foods in all of them. Some are just better.
I heard Lidl sucks. At least in Poland they do. In Poland, Leclerc is where its at. Here we have Wegmans which is expensive like Vons in CA.
Avatar 1:10pm Itzall Ablurr:

Just play the right notes, Yuzo san. Please.
Avatar 1:11pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

And Biedronka? Forget it.
Avatar 1:13pm Beast of Boonton:

Yuzo is not paying attention to his lead
  1:15pm jt:

That was lovely.. snow in the city..
Avatar 1:15pm Chris from DC:

"Paprika Shorts" could be the best title of anything this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm steveo:

turning this up so i can hear all the soundz

me too, steveo! It's pretty great louder!

Pour some paprika in your shorts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Paprika shorts—vast and bleak and godforsaken????
Avatar 1:22pm Itzall Ablurr:

I may need an vinyl spend intervention owing to WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Rob (Jerzcity):

lovely stuff - great show, O!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Ken From Hyde Park:

RIP, Hee Haw's Roy Clark at age 85.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm G:

God I love Julianna Barwick
Avatar 1:27pm still b/p:

Makes sense....Paprika Shorts, the bold new line from Thrill Jockey Underwear.

Roy Clark was one of those guitarists whose hands and fingers could do things seemingly beyond human capability.
Avatar 1:28pm Chris from DC:

Also, good to hear from Roy Montgomery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm adampsyche:

i see flakes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm sphere:

Roy Clark was amazing. And anybody who can get through that many corny jokes without retreating to a monastery has my enduring respect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Ike:

It's snowing now in Sunset Park, Bklyn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Rob (Jerzcity):

it IS snowing in the city right now!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Kelly Jones:

I am really liking today's show Olivia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm olivia:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm zpulpa:

im glad that this strange first snow of the season arrived on a thursday in time for Radio Ravioli, this show has always evoked mysterious weather and the movements of a storm to me.
Avatar 1:34pm Itzall Ablurr:

Olivia, you're doing great (even if you DID make me spend some money on a record AND make it snow), I really enjoy this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm dale:

i just saw that roy clark is no longer a'picken' or a'grinnin.' maybe he can jam with grandpa jones and string bean again on a big heavenly hay bale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm adampsyche:

what zpulpa said. we had nice snow last weekend upstate, but it's different fun in the city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm zpulpa:

I cant wait to get home and investigate the rest of the Beast album while sipping tea and drawing. Ooooh winter can be special as well as a challenge. Like the last few seasons wfmu always helps. *** :- } I love the acoustic shifts that snow brings to the city. Does anyone know of any recordings made outdoors in the snow? There must be something out there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm mrdonutsu:

Great black void for everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm sphere:

"If you stare into the void, the void asks you to please stop staring because its quite disturbing, thank you,"
Avatar 1:58pm βrian:

Well, I just had lunch and it was felafel!
  2:01pm JakeGould:

I like the snow. Hope the Central Park duck can deal with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Passaic River Blues:

@Jake: I share both sentiments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm mrdonutsu:

Man, this is getting some heavy airplay here on the FMU. #1 with a bullet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm robin:

enjoying the enjoyables!
  2:21pm tvbabyred:

Wow. Had no clue this station still had adventurous djs and not just a buncha retro garage crap...glad to discover you!
Avatar 2:21pm βrian:

I kinda like RGC ...
  2:24pm tvbabyred:

Well, duh...obviously most listeners must.
Avatar 2:25pm βrian:

...cuz the attic is way too fusty and the basement is damp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm ⓘⓚⓔ:

@tvbr, so you never listen to Bryce, Daniel Blumin, Carol, Samantha, the Scotts, the Jesses, Matt (who admittedly does play one retro crap song every week -- the same one every week -- but only from 11:00 to 11:04 a.m.), and some others I'm forgetting, or the entire Give the Drummer stream? wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm ⓘⓔⓚ:

Oh and also Fabio, who is coming up next! One of the very very best non-retro, non-garage shows!
Avatar 2:28pm βrian:

I look forward to the day when Little Matty Warwick puts away that last childish thing ... to become Matt Warwick!
Avatar 2:29pm βrian:

I've had more than my fill of Giant Man, but once that's past, I always tune in.
Avatar 2:30pm Itzall Ablurr:

βrian, I think most of us want that too (nomofeldo). I just turn off when "that" happens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm dale:

this is like a road race with robot drivers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm dale:

well, before the changeup anyways....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Michael 98145:

if this weren't one of the greatest stations in the known world, we wouldn't spend so much time here. life is too short.
Avatar 2:40pm βrian:

Aw, heck. Roy Clark died.

is this the turntable S.A.M. was in love with?
  2:53pm Bob:

Heard there was an earthquake in NJ. Hope all is well.
  2:57pm brick layer:

never heard this midori tune!
  2:58pm Welsh Rarebit:

This is pretty “dope”. I’ve never used that word before... feels wrong. This song is most excellent (sounds more authentic).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Rob (Jerzcity):

Thanks, Bob - probably never would have heard of it other than your comment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm steveo:

@bob the record didn't even skip
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm steveo:

thanks olivia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Rob (Jerzcity):
