Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

Hello Jake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm common:

71! Love that sound!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm efd:

hey common! Yeah, it's a good one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm common:

Hey Evan! Yea. Love the guitar line and that 70s paper drum sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Both Ends Burning and the entirety of Country Life are so good it's unthinkable. And, oddly, there's something about the tenor of the Tubes' Don't Touch me There that is very similar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm chris_in_space:

Hey Evan and Funky Folk! I've missed the past couple of weeks. It's great to be here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Aitch:

This one very Sean Cassidy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm chris_in_space:

@Aitch, I concur re: Cassidy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Gizzards! Have not heard that Andy Kim song for quite a few years!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Aitch:

I was OK with just the one....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm efd:

come on Aitch, live a little! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Aitch:

I was listening to some weird stuff earlier, bit too much contrast. King Vision Ultra, did a live set on What Was Music yesterday, off-chops
Avatar 9:42pm herb.nyc:

oops, late to the show, sorry. The Beths "future me hates me" cd just ended. So good; try song "whatever". It has a Blondie melody for a moment. Title track is a winner too. But I know you are, what am I?
Avatar 9:44pm Joe B:

in addition to having a cool name, Andy Kim defeated a total scumbag, Tom MacArthur, a homophobic clueless trump tool
Avatar 9:46pm Joe B:

andki kim co wrote sugar sugar and is one of the background singers. ron dante on the lead of course
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm efd:

aha, thanks Joe!
  9:48pm JakeGould:

@JoeB: That is great news! More Democrats in office these mid-terms. Push these clowns out!!!
  9:49pm JakeGould:

Wait, they are not the same Andy Kim, right?
Avatar 9:50pm Joe B:

macarthur was one of the main pushers of getting rid of the preexisting conditions protections. that combined with his homophobia apparently appalled even a good number of republicans because his area is usually solid red
Avatar 9:50pm Joe B:

Jake, if only!
  9:50pm JakeGould:

Anyway all the Andy Kims are cool.
Avatar 9:50pm Joe B:

the rock me gently guy is proudly canadian!
  9:51pm JakeGould:

Canadians are cool. Rush, The Kids in the Hall, SCTV, Bob and Doug McKenzie… All cool.
  9:53pm JakeGould:

This attack ad on Andy Kim is hilariously stupid and racist. www.nj.com...
Avatar 9:58pm agnesfidget:

Hooray, Olympia shout-out. that is where I am now weeeeeee! I have never heard of Table Sugar, I will have to check them out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Any word on Shogun and the Sheets?
Avatar 10:04pm agnesfidget:

This band sounds like they really like Sparks. Or am I totally off here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm efd:

I think that's a fair statement, agnes.

Barkevious, haven't checked that out yet but just put it on my bandcamp wishlist for tracking purposes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Aitch:

Everyone likes Sparks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm efd:

They (Sparks) are playing in LA this week too! Tonight and tomorrow maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Ty Segall's Sparks cover on Fudge Sandwich is pretty good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Aitch:

I know. They've never been to Australia, LA a 14hr flight...
Avatar 10:12pm agnesfidget:

I think they are playing L.A tonight actually. I wish I could be there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Barkevious Shabazz:

It killed me when Royal Headache split. I felt like such a whelp.
  10:14pm sass2grass:

I think this sound isn’t at all a reflection of what’s happening at this time in NY/NJ (not to mention California) is this a good thing? Or simply careless radio? Regardless, no strings attached.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Quasi Mojo:

says what?
  10:18pm herb.nyc:

Uh, Shogun and the Sheets- that's Royal Headache's Shogun???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Quasi Mojo:

This is a great set. Money well spent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Quasi Mojo:

Ha. That is the name of the Beak album. I thought it was a place holder.
  10:47pm herb.nyc:

@BShabazz - Thx for the Shogun info. I was gonna see Royal H in aug 2015 but I got hit by car and foot was in cast. I saw them (2016?), and it's a funny story how I met them 2 days before the show, in Central Park for a free Feelies show (liz berg was there too).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Hope your foot is having a better time!
  10:53pm Xallim XV:

What's up Dave? My cousin Jox recommended to come by and check it out your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm efd:

@Xallim XV that's cool, but there's no Dave here tonight. Maybe you're looking for Dave Hill's show on Monday nights?
You're welcome to stick around, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm Barkevious Shabazz:

This Music City is terrif.
  11:15pm herb.nyc:

that Music City song is great. And I see Nate K and Joe M played it yest and Monday, resp. So, who'll play it tomorrow? My money is on Sinner's Crossroads. / my foot is perfect, thx; I can play the piano again!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Dave the Spazz in this spot tomorrow night, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm efd:

right! We're lousy with Daves around here.
  11:25pm herb.nyc:

Bec Gaylord did a 1972 special, is this BWelch 1972?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Tome:

love this Bob Welch -- always wished when it was out back then ,, they leave it more raw,, without the string / synth "flourishes",,,
  11:26pm spinetingler:

good call on the Welch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm efd:

@herb, 1977 on the Bob Welch.
@Tome it'd be great to hear the demos for that song, wouldn't it.
  11:44pm steveL:

In so late! Archives at work, tomorrow!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm efd:

hi there SteveL! The archive will be waiting for you.
