A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

like this Rothenberg. i guess the birds can eat up the bug music. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Crudbringer:

I still like the YACHT cover of this, but it's hard to decide which version is more metal.

Hello Trouble and everyone. If I'd known you were playing Ana D i would have skipped my lunch out and stayed in to listen.
Avatar 9:29am Trouble:

@adrian, she's so amazing. i am soooo glad i got to see her perform live in her brief moment of magic. i want more of her sounds!

Sounds like Laetitia Sadier
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Adrian in London:

@Trouble *exploding head emoji* I love that album, and keep looking for a vaguely affordable vinyl version of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am TomDash:

Hey Trouble - great show, as always, perfect coffee/wake up soundtrack. Digging this rather Germanic track by Ippu-do - they're new to me!
Avatar 9:56am Trouble:

thanks@tomdash. they are a japanese band from 1982 that i picked up at a yard sale knowing nothing about them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am TomDash:

nice yard sale score, @trouble!

this version rules over Ann Peebles. the reggae lope suits it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Adrian in London:

@Tom Dash Masami Tsuchiya, the singer and guitarist of Ippu-Do, played with the band Japan on their final tour in 1982. He worked with David Sylvian a couple of times after that too.

is it legal to read the EAS announcement but then just play bird records instead of the actual EAS tone?

(i commuted from brooklyn to jersey city for a while)

it sucked when terrorists blew up the path train
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am melinda:

@sphere I agree

There are mockingbirds in NYC that squawk the bleeps and bloops of car alarms. Pretty good mimics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am melinda:

Urban insularity is a funny thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am steveo:

i searched for "mockingbird making emergency alert tone" but nothing
  10:15am Gwtg:

At a job interview in Manhattan they were worried that the commute from Jersey City was too long. I could tell that if I said I lived in in Rockaway or Bayside they wouldn't have blinked.
  10:15am goyim in the am:

Loving the tunes today, but a rough week in the translation mines means I’m not loving the German-accented English too much — I will consider it a tolerance test and carry on listening!
Avatar 10:16am βrian:

We have owls in our hood. Late fall and mid-winter they serenade us. (We being eligible owl-mates, that is. They asked me to give 'em a shout-out.)
  10:19am Andrea in Jersey City:

Such a great song. I love Anne Briggs, thank you..
Avatar 10:20am JakeGould:

@Goyim: Do you mean Anne Briggs who is 100% British? Anyway, I like this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am melinda:

This is beautiful.
  10:21am Andrea in Jersey City:

@Gwtg. I know how you feel
Avatar 10:26am Trouble:

it is a commonly held belief that new jersey is in another part of the world, not at all near NYC. when actually the PATH train takes 10 mins to get to downtown
Avatar 10:27am JakeGould:

@Trouble: Yeah, but the cognitive dissonance is pretty big. Kinda like how in NYC many people never venture one or two stops past their neighborhood.
Avatar 10:28am Roberto:

Troubeleh, is Icepack thinking of applying ED to the institution of which we hath spake?
  10:28am goyim in the am:

@Jake no, I meant Donna Regina and Maxine Funke.

What a great Ben Watts song, thanks for playing it. I’m years remiss in diving into his solo stuff, is this a good album to start with? (I presume yes!)
  10:32am Mike Wolf:

Ben Watts really was the other Marine Girl
  10:37am goyim in the am:

@Trouble I thought she was German-born? I know she’s NZ based but I’ve heard of her through collabs with German artists.

Well, now that NJ has progressive Gov. Slenderman while NY is still stuck w/Teflon-Coated Sleaze-Master Cuomo who hates the subway, NJ really *is* a different world. For now. Although last week we threw 7 of the most corrupt incumbent "Democrats" imaginable out of the NY state Senate, which NEVER happens, so there's hope! Anyway, GREAT show!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am ɛɨk:

@βrian, good question. Looooong story, I suspect. I've only just started digging into all of this myself. Of course, I talk like Gov. Slenderman is so great, but just watch, the FBI will end up busting him for running an illegal armadillo-fighting ring underneath an illicit racetrack-slash-brothel in Rahway or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Granny Spicy Tuna:

@steveo— thanks! I was quoting the Nilsson song, "Here's Why I Did Not Go to Work Today…" I love songs about Thursday!
