I don't remember hearing this track before-
Avatar 12:16am Bill Mac:

Yes! Four and counting!
Avatar 12:17am Bill Mac:

A remix apparently
  12:18am el Garee le Bee~:

Mexican radio... great song. Better story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am chresti:

which story is that, el garee?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am coelacanth∅:

don't worry Bill, the magic carpathians are just looking for their hands in the snow
  12:23am el Garee le Bee~:

About the non FCC radio across the border. Mexican radio. Programmed music aimed at Texas.

  12:29am el Garee le Bee~:

One thing that always stuck was the Stan Ridgway & Stewart Copeland... "Don't box me in" from the movie "Rumble fish" by FF Copolla. Interesting flick by FF Copolla.
  12:30am rw:

Zzzzzzero Hour! Keep caffeinating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am chresti:

I've lost track of Mexican radio since the 70s
Avatar 12:30am Bill Mac:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am Ike:

Great to hear Think Tree. They don't get a lot of airplay. Their album "Like the Idea" was interestingly weird for the early 90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am Scraps:

Avatar 12:31am grtyvr:

hey folks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am chresti:

yes, don't box me in
  12:32am J:

Was gonna say the same about Think Tree. Nice surprise. Great set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am Scraps:

I listened from Seattle in the 70s as a teenager as a DXer, got a few Mexican stations
Avatar 12:33am Bill Mac:

@Ike I was lucky enough to find the 12 inch when DJing in Philly back in the early 90s. Liked the finally album a bit but it didn't live up to the single
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am Scraps:

The bestest fartherest one was San Luis Potosí. Dined out for that myself for weeks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am coelacanth∅:

chresti i like that when i sit back about 4' from the screen, as i do when i'm home, your avatar looks like a landscape.
  12:38am el Garee le Bee~:

Anything mexican I love. But only heard of this probably 30years ago. It was mostly an AM phenom to bypass US regulations and broadcast in english across the texas border. Lots of evangelicals and all that. As said, it's a good story. There are books about it.

(i guess it *is* a landscape; but i mean sky, winding river, 3 land masses...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am chresti:

I think he heard wov played on mexican radio while in mexico
  12:42am rw:

I'm not an expert but I think the idea was if the station was just on the other side of the Mexican border they could boost the signal beyond US limits for greater coverage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am chresti:

there's a holy roller station that hijacks KXLU's frequency
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am coelacanth∅:

i've never heard mexican radio, except "mexican radio", on an album that doesn't approach the excellence of "dark continent"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am fleep:

rw yup, home of Wolfman Jack www.modestoradiomuseum.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am chresti:

rw-I think you're correct, that's what I thought
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am Aitch:

Jovial afternoon music over here
  12:46am el Garee le Bee~:

Way back, we had to listen to AM. All we had. That freq travels thousands of miles. We listened to WLS baseball and cuban, so amer stations. No fidelity but we got great stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Scraps:

LOVE Värttinä!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am chresti:

the mannequin factory I once worked at, in LA, moved to Mexico in the 80s

  12:54am rw:

Morning Andy!
Avatar 12:54am Bill Mac:

Yo Andy!
Avatar 12:57am Franco Twinkie:

I once went to an abandoned carnival in Mexico that had a tipped over train ride. But alas, no music.
Avatar 12:58am Bill Mac:

Sup Frank!
Avatar 1:00am Franco Twinkie:

Hey RW! Yeah, I worked in that factory too. Chresti got me a job there, but I didn't last. I couldn't paint on their eyeballs fast enough.
  1:01am chresti:

Rw- I painted the faces on dummies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am mauri:

Theres a folk music festival in Kaustinen every summer. Maybe their band listing has something more you might like. kaustinen.net...
  1:05am chresti:

I like June then I hide until late September
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05am mauri:

Here in Finland the warmth has gone down enough for this summer. Feels like the start of fall. Last evening I was swimming in the setting night and saw a boreal owl flying above. all in silence above the calm lake.
  1:06am el Garee le Bee~:

Yes the Varttina work is a beauty to hear. This program is cooking along better than average.
  1:07am chresti:

Oh! That’s Wonderful mauri
  1:09am chresti:

Do you get mosquitos @mauri?
Avatar 1:09am Franco Twinkie:

No kidding, Mauri. I would gladly trade places with you....damn the tacos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am mauri:

Hehe Franco. No tacos here. Lakes 18C and refreshing.

chresti. No gnats anymore and very little this summer too. They say the next summer will be filled with them. Up north there's lotsa as always I think.
  1:12am rw:

this Alexander Tucker track almost sounds like a long lost Eno song.
Avatar 1:13am Bill Mac:

Stole my thunder rw... the description on the CD says just that.
  1:15am rw:

Ha! This XTC sounds just like XTC too!
Avatar 1:15am Bill Mac:

Mummer issue 35 years ago yesterday.... I remember....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am Scraps:

So love Mummer. Tied for 2nd of XTC albums
  1:18am rw:

chresti and Franco, I'm trying to visualize that mannequin factory. I feel like I can picture it pretty well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am Scraps:

And the best bonus tracks too.

Oh yeah Danielson!!!
Avatar 1:18am Bill Mac:

it's definitely aged better than some of their other records... I like it a lot more more than I used to... and I liked it back in the day
Avatar 1:21am Franco Twinkie:

RW, It was in East L.A. At lunch we would walk to a liquor store on Whittier Blvd. to buy lottery tickets...this was years before we were together.
  1:23am rw:

Yeah, I was picturing east side. One story. Parking lot needs repaving. A little depressing, a little surreal.
Avatar 1:23am Andy in Berlin:

OK guys I've got to bail - time to go to the gym. See you on the archives, Bill!
Avatar 1:24am Bill Mac:

Gym! I feel so out of sync! Have a good one Andy!
Avatar 1:24am Franco Twinkie:

Yup. All of that and a barbed wire fence.
  1:26am rw:

Ha! I can picture closing the gate to the parking lot too.
Avatar 1:28am Franco Twinkie:

One time one of our co-workers brought some enchiladas he made at home and they were covered with ants!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am mauri:

Somehow The Lemon Twigs always surprise me. I always get a swedish vibe from their songs.
  1:31am chresti:

Greneker/Bouchet international was the mannequin co name
Avatar 1:31am Bill Mac:

On Pseu's show Tuesday 9/4.... they're surprisingly good.
  1:32am rw:

I'm not sure why but I'm liking the Lemon Twigs more than I want to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am mauri:

rw I get that feeling too.
  1:32am el Garee le Bee~:

What is this playing? It's like the McGarrigles (sp) meet Van Dyke Parks. Lemon Twigs? Wow, that's a keeper.
Avatar 1:33am Franco Twinkie:

Lemon Twigs...Van Dyke Parks-ish, No?
Avatar 1:36am Franco Twinkie:

I love Van Dyke...even though he irons creases into his jeans.
Avatar 1:38am Franco Twinkie:

But it is! At least he did when I met him.
Avatar 1:39am Bill Mac:

Oh I believe you. Yup time for some VDP
Avatar 1:41am Franco Twinkie:

Come Into The Suhshine,perhaps?
  1:49am el Garee le Bee~:

Van can iron his jock strap for all I care. But listen again to that Lemon Twigs item and you may change your mind. He has a singular, orchestral sound. It's this musician's impression. Draw from it what you want.
Avatar 1:54am Franco Twinkie:

In the '70's there was this gang in L,A. called the Brims. It was all about the hat, I think.
Avatar 1:59am Franco Twinkie:

Avatar 2:00am Bill Mac:

Pleasure, sorry for the effed up segue....
  2:00am el Garee le Bee~:

Thank you. Bill. It's hard to figure how the MP's got to this place when they started as such a confrontational noise band. I saw them in their earliest days at Al's Bar in L.A...Then one day...Boink! This!
