Avatar 10:02pm TDK60:

Greetings avant DJ Jeff. Here early tonight but must hit the sack early. Tho, been enjoying your shows later via Archives. So, no problem.
  10:04pm Carmichael:

Heya Jeff and avants.
Avatar 10:05pm Jeff Conklin:

Evening, all.
  10:06pm Lucky:

Huh. I thought you'd till be out on the West Coast? A pleasant surprise.
Avatar 10:07pm TDK60:

We're not on the West Coast?
  10:08pm Lucky:

"thought you'd *still* be out on the West Coast"
  10:08pm Lucky:

I wonder which WFMU show gets the most typos on its comments?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm mb:

Hello all. Happy to be here, unstuck in time.
Avatar 10:10pm Jeff Conklin:

Am I supposed to be out west?
  10:12pm Lucky:

For some reason, I thought you were going out west. Don't mind me. There is far too much information in my brain to organize and this from a librarian.
Avatar 10:13pm Jeff Conklin:

Ha, i take it youre refering to my recnt post about Montana. I'll be there end of August...
Avatar 10:13pm Jennifer_PNW:

Hey there fellow weirdos, I say this with love of course
Avatar 10:14pm northguineahills:

Starbirthed, new to me!
Avatar 10:15pm Jeff Conklin:

Speaking of...any listeners out there living in/around Bozeman?
  10:15pm Lucky:

Maybe that's it? I have an Instagram account but no smart phone. I lurk to watch some folks, but I get confused who's who. Anyway, have fun out there! I imagine it's fairly beautiful...
Avatar 10:17pm Jennifer_PNW:

@Lucky, I've always wanted to work in a library but it seems like these days you need a MS or PhD in library science.
Avatar 10:18pm TDK60:

Jeff, in one sense you *are* on the west coast -- the west coast of the Hudson River.
  10:18pm Carmichael:

I’m on the west coast. I am, right??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm medson:

BBIB is def one of my favorite record labels
Avatar 10:22pm TDK60:

"The West is the best." -Jim Morrison (But I like Out East too -Cape Cod, Cape May, Coney Island.)
Avatar 10:23pm Jennifer_PNW:

Wow, new material?
Avatar 10:23pm Jennifer_PNW:

How's the rest of the record?
  10:25pm Lucky:

@ Jennifer_PNW: Well, in public libraries you could be a "library associate" with an undergrad degree (at least in NJ), but I'm not sure about academic libraries. Libraries in NJ - like much public infrastructural stuff here - is underfunded, so not sure how much money it will provide in the future. Also, I work in an urban library, so it's much more about providing connection to social services than books, but maybe that's not for everyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

FWIW, I probably drove through Bozeman on a trip out there years ago. Flew out to Billings and drove around the state.
Avatar 10:26pm franny:

I really love this set guys!!!!!!
Avatar 10:28pm franny:

Starbirthed becoming a coveted must buy by now because of this show.
Avatar 10:28pm Jeff Conklin:

Yes, new Trees, Grass, Stones (though its basically one later member and new cats). Surprisginly awesome!
Avatar 10:28pm Adamsworth:

Hey everyone, I also love this set tonight...I've been reading poetry by Edward Dorn tonight, a great Western American poet!
Avatar 10:31pm franny:

Wikipedia's telling me Ed Dorn was a 'mentor and supporter' of the musical group Devo. He whipped it.
Avatar 10:33pm Adamsworth:

Whoa, I didn't know about the Devo connection, I just have a collection called Way More West, and a collection of a 3 part epic poem called Gunslinger, which is amazing.
  10:33pm The Butterman:

Bout time we heard this. Good for people who don't know Dead.
Avatar 10:33pm TDK60:

Libraries underfunded. And "defense" departments wealthy beyond imagination; that says a lot about us.
  10:33pm The Butterman:

Serious Phil.
Avatar 10:37pm Jennifer_PNW:

@TDK60, unfortunately, this is so very true.
Avatar 10:38pm Jennifer_PNW:

Just revisited this show the other day, "This Day in History" on the Dead Archive is a wonderful thing
  10:38pm JefffromCanada:

Good to have the chance to listen in Jeff! This jam is bonkers.
Avatar 10:39pm Jeff Conklin:

Ain't nothin' like '73
Avatar 10:41pm franny:

Guys, I really like the look of these Flower Room label artists, does anyone know anything about Ash and Herb?
  10:42pm JefffromCanada:

Are you gonna check out any of the ongoing Phish tour?
  10:43pm Jeff Conklin:

@franny: Everything In Flower Room
Is great. Ash and Herb are Starbirthwd. The tapes and LPs are handmade and gorgeous.
Avatar 10:44pm franny:

Thanks Jeff!!!!!
Avatar 10:44pm Jeff Conklin:

@Jeff: No firm plans, but one of the Jersey shows is a possibility
Avatar 10:46pm northguineahills:

Still waiting for Oswald's "Grayfolded" (which this sounds a lot like [his remix of the Dead])
  10:46pm JefffromCanada:

Some nice hip hop like beats there from GD! So versatile.
  10:48pm Agent Peter:

Another racetrack show...
...and I suppose we're only supposed to talk about the music? :-)
Avatar 10:49pm Jennifer_PNW:

I never really got into Phish but I saw a live broadcast last week and it was really good! I can't compare it with any other of their stuff but to the novice like me, they seemed to have a lot of energy. And the crowd was super into it.
Avatar 10:51pm Jeff Conklin:

@Jennifer: Check out a show sometime (though theyre out of your zone for a while now)
Avatar 10:51pm Jennifer_PNW:

Is this the greatest soundcheck ever?
Avatar 10:51pm TDK60:

July '73 was in Charleston, West Virginia, hitchhiking up to Morgantown a lot. On the turntable at home everything from Emerson, Lake & Palmer [sic], to Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, to Santana, to Herbie Hancock.
Avatar 10:52pm Jeff Conklin:

@Jennifer: Yes (that's been recorded)
Avatar 10:52pm Jeff Conklin:

@Agent Peter: Rap about whatever you like my bro
Avatar 10:53pm northguineahills:

I saw Phish live as a freshie in college back in '95. Wasn't too into the music, but, I met some cool peeps who I let shower and sleep at my pad.
  10:57pm Santos L Halper:

Jeez, but this is good...
Avatar 10:59pm TDK60:

A racetrack show--wonder if it was dusty! // Well, as promised, I go-to-bed. Thanks Jeff.....zzzz
  10:59pm AntsyListener:

The Dead, this show....so....tiresome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm mb:

@ngh: I had a similar experience. What was it about the music that turned you off, if i may ask?
  11:04pm Frank Zaatar:

Hey, I was at this festival (along with 599,999 of my firends)! The soundcheck was indeed a lot better than the afternoon set.
  11:04pm AntsyListener:

Never been a fan. Saw them in OKC in the 1970"s. Dreadful.
My first live concert was Hendrix.
The tiresome was accurate, but also a bad joke on the Race Venue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm mb:

The stream background talk over "music" fits you nicely. Goes with the theme of the AG t-shirt and all.
Avatar 11:07pm northguineahills:

Mixing in the Dead music w/ a footy (match)

@mb: Didn't dislike it, it just wasn't my thing. At the time, I was nascent noob into music, and was stuck in the indie ghetto, and just discovered jazz improv, and mid-century avant-garde composition. I finally got into the Dead after Oswald's remixes, and have plenty of albums now. Still haven't gotten into most Phish, but there is some I like of their songs, and I admire Trey Anastasio's virtuosity...
Avatar 11:12pm Adamsworth:

I love the Byrds so much
Avatar 11:13pm northguineahills:

what Adamsworth said...
  11:13pm daniel:

@jeff i'll be repping my avant ghetto/relatively clean rivers tee at both camden and merriweather. hoping at least one head comes up to chat
Avatar 11:14pm Adamsworth:

My #1 complaint about the Byrds is that Wasn't Born To Follow is way too short. I want a band to cover it and stretch it out! If you're in a band, consider doing this!
Avatar 11:14pm jgrosch:

I love the Byrds. Roger McGuinn is really under appreciated
Avatar 11:15pm jgrosch:

@Adamsworth: Check out The Sadies version of "Wasn't Born To Follow"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm mb:

@ngh: Great answer. I was the same and was lucky enough to be immersed in all NYC had to offer musically in the 90's so my tastes varied. The studio albums by Phish were good enough for me but i still try to see 1 or 2 shows a year. I've gotten better at the internet and will watch a stream once in awhile but its not the same as being there.
Avatar 11:16pm Adamsworth:

@jgrosch, I will do that! Thanks for the tip!
Avatar 11:18pm Adamsworth:

It looks like it is 4 and a half minutes long. I'll listen to it after the show is done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Nardo:

Hey Jeff. Träd, Gräs och Stenar is also supposed to appear at Louisville, KY Cropped Out festival but I'm still waiting for confirmation on actual dates.
Avatar 11:26pm Jeff Conklin:

@Nardo: Right on, hope it happens.
  11:29pm Tom E:

Loving this set.
Avatar 11:30pm deneane:

Really digging the first few tracks especially Primitive Air....was listening for your details to get the scoop, and it turns to be my friends Jef and Drew...small world! Thanks
Avatar 11:34pm Jennifer_PNW:

@Tom E, you beat me to it, second set is fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Nardo:

@Jeff: Yup. Still a hike from Columbus, but my daughter just happens to live in Louisville. Very eclectic mix of artists too!
  11:35pm Fashion Tashjian:

Good morning. We woke up to our apartment flooded from two floors above (and now one below us) but at least we still have the Avant Ghetto, which is a fitting way to describe our situation. Blesses.
Avatar 11:39pm Jeff Conklin:

@Fashion: Ugh. That sucks. Hope the music helps a bit
Avatar 11:40pm Adamsworth:

@Fashion, damn, hope you lose as little as possible!
  11:41pm Countrydave:

Nice Sunday music
  11:42pm katharsis:

Hellos and thanks
Avatar 11:43pm Jeff Conklin:

Hellos and yourwelcomes
Avatar 11:47pm northguineahills:

@Fashion Tashjian: I hope you still have your power and water.

Thanks Jeff... slowly off to slumber!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm mb:

Sucks to hear FT. I've gotten through a few fires and floods on radio power, myself. Sending dry thoughts your way.
Avatar 11:49pm Jennifer_PNW:

@fashion, yikes, bummer to hear. Hope there isn't too much damage.
  11:52pm sufferwords:

loved the Dead til I was 15- 1975- took a pink rock inspired break- scored some acid and left the Santa barbara County Bowl Show 77/78? Now as an old fart they sound really good again even if they were working with the CIA
  11:52pm sufferwords:

guess pink is punk and punk is pink...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm peter_aitch:

great program tonight, thank you!
  11:55pm Santos L Halper:

Wonderful show Jeff...listened to last week earlier today...AGx2= : )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm mb:

Very AG show tonight DJJC. Dimmed the lights for the last half hour to good results. Thx...
  11:56pm pp:

is it Cant you see by MTB?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm mb:

Have not heard a bad song from the Kith and Kin outfit yet. Killer stuff.
Avatar 11:59pm Jeff Conklin:

Thanks, all. See you next time...
  12:01am DB:
