Avatar 10:02pm Adamsworth:

Hello everyone, Jeff that is so cool that your Dad is a guest on your show tonight!
Avatar 10:03pm TDK60:

Evenin' DJ JC. Humid, eh? FF cools me down..
Avatar 10:05pm Adamsworth:

It's humid in Philly too, yesterday the National Weather Service said 100% chance of rain...but today it was 50% and didn't rain really, there was just points where humidity hit 100% and rained from the air.
Avatar 10:06pm Adamsworth:

I actually think weird weather like that is fun to walk around in, but then it was just hot and gross afterwards...ugh.
  10:07pm Jeff Conklin:

Evening all. Looks like rain for sure.
  10:07pm opurt:

Good afternoon/evening!
  10:09pm Agent Peter:

Ah, the Stephen Stills cameos...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm medson:

evening folks
  10:10pm MONEYBAG$:

Oh what I want to know, what's with that Casio
Avatar 10:11pm Adamsworth:

I like in the Shakey book how Neil keeps saying like "Stephen Stills is a funky guy, he's got a lot of soul".
  10:13pm MONEYBAG$:

When I saw Neil Young last week he kept introducing his guitars "this came from Steven Stills", it was a running joke
Avatar 10:16pm TDK60:

Do Stills and Young get along?
Avatar 10:16pm Jeff Conklin:

Stills was not on the Bird Song fwiw
  10:17pm Lucky:

Hello - Listened to WKCR thinking it was the end of Gaylord's show and missed the beginning of yours. Why am I having such an issue with live listening???
  10:18pm MONEYBAG$:

he was there, in his own way. Jimi too
  10:18pm MONEYBAG$:

Jim Morrison was not allowed per Jerry
Avatar 10:18pm Jeff Conklin:

@Lucky: Funny, Gaylord played a Indian Classical sounding thing and WKCR does that Sunday Evenings....
  10:19pm Agent Peter:

Correct. But his appeerance was the most memorable part of those shows.
Avatar 10:20pm Jeff Conklin:

Incorrect, the Bird Song, Esau and West LA are far more memorable...
Avatar 10:20pm Jennifer_PNW:

Evening, everyone
Avatar 10:21pm TDK60:

I only saw The Gratefuls twice: 1978 and around the same time as the above Meadowland show: Spring '83, in WV.
  10:22pm mark Flynn:

Always had respect for The Dead and had a revaluation Dead style in an enhanced state listening to a legitimate live recording from 1972 in 1975 on an uninterrupted broadcast at 2am on WBCN in Boston in 1975. It was a singular revaluation. Until hearing this track tonight I’ve had respect but this guitar playing is on par with the Allman Brothers. I’m going to follow up.
Avatar 10:23pm Adamsworth:

@TDK60 I like the style of calling them The Gratefuls, I think I'll start doing that.
Avatar 10:23pm Jeff Conklin:

New to the show Mark? If so, welcome, I love to help people reach the Dead...
Avatar 10:23pm TDK60:

Massachusetts is "an enhanced state"?
Avatar 10:23pm Adamsworth:

This Ulrich Rois song is amazing! MV vibes..
  10:24pm Lucky:

Again, I'm starting to wonder why the 80's are so maligned. That was a jam for sure.
  10:25pm MONEYBAG$:

MA has been legally enhanced for a few weeks now
Avatar 10:25pm Jeff Conklin:

People have a hard time with Brent's keys/tone sometimes. Took me a while to acclimate myself but once it clicks....
  10:26pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

Speaking of MV, no one should sleep on the 2cd live Wet Tuna set that's probably close to sold out.
Avatar 10:27pm Adamsworth:

The Great Wet Wonder one? I got it from them when I saw them live...so good.
Avatar 10:27pm TDK60:

Adamsworth: Just to be cantankerous, I do the same with the Stones -I call 'em The Rollings.
  10:28pm mark Flynn:

How do I find the Ulrich Rios track. I’m googling with no hits.
  10:28pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

Yeah, that one. Very different from the LP, too.
  10:29pm Agent Peter:

No problem at all with Brett. Keith had kind of run his course and imo Brett's arrival freshened things up. I think he gets a bad rap when there was stuff going on that had nothing to do with him. Excellent musician who added a lot to the band's history.
Avatar 10:29pm Adamsworth:

@TDK60, ha ha I will also steal that from you. Though with the Rollings, I usually pronounce them like a Bosnian friend of mine did, she would put the emphasis on "the ROLLingstones"
  10:29pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

Feathered Coyote Records on bandcamp, mark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm sberger:

Evening all.. featheredcoyoterecords.bandcamp.com...
Avatar 10:31pm Adamsworth:

oooh, new Starbirthed that's not out yet, if I remember correctly. I'm on their list. Gotta pick up the new batch.
  10:31pm mark Flynn:

TDK60 I was a 90 guy. 45 per side. My enhanced state wasn’t site specific, but despite living in NYC for 18 years I still think Massachusetts is an enhanced State.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm chresti:

evening- no rain here, just fire.
Avatar 10:34pm Adamsworth:

I love how Starbirthed includes small crystals or incense with their tapes...such a cool style.
Avatar 10:35pm TDK60:

Mark: Mass. is a fine state. // I usually *have* made more 90 min. mix tapes. But one can tire the listener out if it gets tedious w/too much info. Doing 60s is more concise but tricky too.
Avatar 10:35pm Jeff Conklin:

@Agent: Well put.
Avatar 10:36pm Adamsworth:

I was into 90 minute tapes, until I figured out they were more likely to break...
  10:36pm Humam:

Jeff, why are you such a jerk to your listeners on the comment board? Annoying, man.
Avatar 10:37pm Jeff Conklin:

No jerkiness here. Just opinions, lots of them.
Avatar 10:37pm Adamsworth:

whaaat, Jeff is nice as hell. At worst, charmingly curmudgeonly
Avatar 10:39pm TDK60:

I think 60s are a bit more hi-fi. But I'm not a real audiophile. // Adamsworth: interesting @ Starbirthed. '80s Nebraska new wave dream pop band For Against put a shaft of wheat in their debut LP cover.
Avatar 10:39pm Jeff Conklin:

@chresti: Northern California? Hope you and yours are safe/ok
  10:40pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

My copy of the first Caroliner record was filled with crushed peanut shells.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm chresti:

Southern CA @Jeff
Avatar 10:41pm Jeff Conklin:

@MoeLarryAndJesus: I've heard of much worse being stuck in those...
Avatar 10:41pm Adamsworth:

Ha ha Caroliner was always putting random trash in the albums, it was also a good style. Amazing band.
  10:43pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

Razors and needles and so forth, I know. But do you know how hard it is to clean peanut shell debris off a record so you can play it?
Avatar 10:43pm TDK60:

You talking about Caroliner Rainbow?
  10:44pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

  10:45pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

Their first LP was packaged in unused boxes from the Chrome Box set.
Avatar 10:45pm TDK60:

Oh yeah, saw them in a warehouse in Pittsburgh around '91. The combo if colorful stage set and music was like some very very very arcane dream. Strange.
Avatar 10:46pm TDK60:

combo [of not if]
  10:46pm mary:

i live for strange
Avatar 10:48pm TDK60:

But, For Against were polite Nebraskans and put the wheat in between the outside see-thru plastic bag and cardboard cover.
Avatar 10:54pm TDK60:

Sing us a song....
  10:54pm J:

Busssted haha
  10:54pm sfolk16:

Can! Nice! What????????????????
  10:54pm Agent Peter:

There are no misteaks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm chresti:

  10:55pm sfolk16:

Yes....nice mix JC! It was on..............!!!!!!!!
  10:58pm mary:

I was hoping for Michael Rother as I was so happy within this show. Can makes me very happy too!
Beautiful show, Jeff.
Avatar 11:00pm TDK60:

Is there dust on the needle?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm chresti:

A mycorrhiza (from Greek μύκης mýkēs, "fungus", and ῥίζα rhiza, "root"; pl. mycorrhizae, mycorrhiza or mycorrhizas) is a symbiotic association between a fungus and the roots of a vascular host plant
  11:01pm Agent Peter:

Pops get a request?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm chresti:

not a jerk
Avatar 11:03pm TDK60:

Why bother putting down music? I suppose it's okay every once in a while, maybe. But it may hurt others' feelings. There's so great sonics out there. I mean, I may don't like ____ ___ but Im not gonna waste time on ____ ___.
Avatar 11:04pm Jeff Conklin:

no the stylus is just shot.
Avatar 11:04pm Jeff Conklin:

no the stylus is just shot.
Avatar 11:05pm TDK60:

so [much] great .. I [may] not like. (sorry for sloppiess, tired..)
Avatar 11:05pm TDK60:

  11:12pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

I thought it might have been the Crawlspace version, from their first single.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm mb:

Hey all
Avatar 11:21pm Jeff Conklin:

Hey, Mb

And Hello to all lurkers.
  11:21pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

I just snagged a copy of that Geoff Bartley record for $2 on Discogs. No cover, but still.
  11:21pm mark Flynn:

1st time I’ve listened since Dave. Very impressive. I’ll be a Sunday regular.
Avatar 11:24pm Jeff Conklin:

@Moe: Based on that one tune?

@Mark: Glad to have you, Mark.
  11:25pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

Yeah, Jeff. For 2 bucks it's hard to go wrong.
Avatar 11:26pm Jeff Conklin:

@Moe: I played the wrong track. Couple good cute, John Martyn cover too
  11:30pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

BTW, does FMU have a copy of a Michael Hurley record called Live In Edinburgh? I can't figure out if it really exists.
Avatar 11:31pm Franco Twinkie:

Half heard in my distracted state - Kendra Smith. Can't verify anything..but, on her cd from awhile back she does two songs about the rain. Is it raining somewhere? Not in L.A.!!! Saw her last Christmas with her old band. She was magnificent!
Avatar 11:32pm Jeff Conklin:

Dunno, about that Hurley LP. If I remember next week I'll take a look...
  11:32pm opurt:

Late to commenting on this..The Ulrich Rois track *is* a Kendra Smith cover.
Avatar 11:33pm Franco Twinkie:

You know, She lives in a tree.
  11:33pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

  11:35pm Lucky:

This Dave Evans is nice - an almost Jansch like sweetness. I'm gonna crash though. Thanks for the music. I'll pick up where I left off tomorrow. Bummer about the Can, but nice that you went with reality.
  11:35pm opurt:

The last time I saw Kendra Smith was at Terrastock II - hard to believe that was 20 years ago...seems like yesterday....
Avatar 11:38pm Franco Twinkie:

Saw her at McCabes sometime in the 90's. She was quite talkative. That's why I know about how she lives.
  11:40pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

I thought she showed up on a Dream Syndicate reunion recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm mb:

Psyched to hear that "Bird Song" in the archives. I'm going to assume you are an expert birder' DJ JC.
Avatar 11:42pm Franco Twinkie:

That's where I saw her. It was like seen a unicorn.
Avatar 11:42pm Jeff Conklin:

I've heard a few Bird Songs here and there ;)
  11:42pm mary:

fahey on the radio!
  11:43pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

No, the Dream Syndicate thing was just 2 years ago or so.
  11:43pm opurt:

She was very talkative at the T2 show, seemed to be partly out of nervousness....but it was just an incredible set. There are a few decent recordings of that show out there (but I would never make a request here ;-) )
Avatar 11:43pm JakeGould:

FWIW, I appreciate Jeff’s snark. You can’t work retail—let alone sell records—without having that honed.
Avatar 11:46pm Franco Twinkie:

Last Christmas, as in 2017. I;m an old coot, but I'm not senile.
  11:46pm MoeLarryAndJesus:

Oh, sorry, I thought you said McCabe's in the 90s.
Avatar 11:47pm Franco Twinkie:

Can we talk about food now?
  11:48pm opurt:

I missed the Dream Syndicate shows :-(
Sure, we can move on to food....
  11:50pm katharsis:

Hey all. Thanks
  11:51pm opurt:

Since us West Coasters are going to miss the Espers shows it only seems right that we get to mention the upcoming Träd, Gräs & Stenar shows (SF, Big Sur and LA and possibly more that I ignored)
Avatar 11:53pm Franco Twinkie:

Opurt, where in SF? i'll be therein early August.
  11:55pm opurt:

September 21 at The Chapel (SF)
  11:56pm opurt:

Heading to the September 23 show at Henry Miller in Big Sur - folkyeah.com...
Avatar 11:56pm Franco Twinkie:

Dang! I'll catch the show at home.
  11:57pm opurt:

You get 3 nights in LA!
Avatar 11:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Henry Millers is great! Saw a film festival there.
  11:57pm opurt:

Thank you Jeff for another incredible show.
Avatar 11:58pm Franco Twinkie:

Your great, Jeff! Bye.
  11:59pm opurt:

We try to make it to Henry Miller (HMML in Big Sur) as often as possible - one of my favorite places in this world.
Avatar 11:59pm Jeff Conklin:

Thanks, all
  12:01am MoeLarryAndJesus:

Thanks, great set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm sberger:

Listening to most of this on the archives...great set. Thanks! Also, I had the good fortune to work with Geoff Bartley at the Harvard Coop in Cambridge in the record area back in the late 70's/early 80's. Wonderful guy.
