Will this be the song that wins me over to The Grateful Dead...?
  10:02pm Agent Peter:

  10:03pm Falcon:

dead and company killing it every night
  10:03pm sfolk16:

yes! 80's dead! feel it.......!
  10:03pm Lucky:

Still trying to make the full fledged transition form archive listening to live. Starting to wonder if my existing is in archive.
Avatar 10:05pm Jeff Conklin:

Evening all. There's nothing like being live...
  10:05pm Agent Peter:

It's a fine line between the real and the vividly imagined.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm medson:

Good Evening. Very psyched for the live set
Avatar 10:06pm Adamsworth:

I don't know why but I like listening live way more. It goes for all the shows I love on WFMU, and radio in general.
  10:06pm Lucky:

Holy crow: "Still trying to make the full fledged transition *from* archive listening to live. Starting to wonder if my *existence* is in archive." My typos are live anyway...
Avatar 10:07pm Adamsworth:

I wonder what the West High Auditorium in Anchorage looks like?
  10:07pm J:

I miss the old time slot but I still try to show up for Live
Avatar 10:08pm Jeff Conklin:

It looks like a HS, i drove by it when I was in Anchorage...Not the inside of course...
Avatar 10:08pm Adamsworth:

I looked it up, it's pretty small! That would have been so killer to see them play there.
Avatar 10:09pm Adamsworth:

I forget if links work on here but3.bp.blogspot.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Take care here, this program can be Deadly.
Avatar 10:11pm tuner fish:

man, that scarlet fire from a couple weeks ago was amazing! i love the roars from the crowd
Avatar 10:12pm Jeff Conklin:

Love AUD tapes for the crowd ecstasies....
  10:12pm Lucky:

This is what everyone is complaining about? Maybe some of the keyboard sounds haven't aged well in the taste maker scene, but the playing sounds happening.
  10:12pm MONEYBAG$:

This was my 6th birthday!
Avatar 10:12pm northguineahills:

I don't know, I usually drive by the insides of auditoriums... malls, Blues Brothers style..
  10:13pm Ollie:

@Adamsworth: Imagine what the, um, aroma of that venue must've been that night.
  10:14pm Woodland Prana Man:

Hey Jeff, always a please to tune in right in the middle of a jam!!!!
  10:14pm Agent Peter:

School is about 1800-1900, so assume auditorium capacity is about that? Would be roughly the same as Marin Civic Center, which is the smallest show I ever saw live.
Avatar 10:15pm Adamsworth:

I was listening to the Doom and Gloom From the Tomb blog "choice cuts" of the first 15 years of Bob Dylan Never Ending Tour bootlegs today...it's pretty great.
  10:15pm Carmichael:

I took a friend to a benefit in SF many years ago, with all the great Bay Area bands playing. Garcia, Weir and Hart came out for a brief 3 song acoustic set. My friend, who despises the Dead, heard a long rambling version of Friend of the Devil that won him over. Jerry played the hell out of that, over and over.
  10:15pm MONEYBAG$:

Thought we just segued into a 95 drums for a second
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Fox:

This is sounds exactly the way the air feels right now.
  10:18pm Ollie:

Getting some real Tangerine Dream vibes here.
  10:19pm hjboaktown:

Hi Jeff,
can't wait to see Träd, Gräs & Stenar at the Chapel in SF Sep 21st. Would not even know about them was it not for your program! Yeah!
Avatar 10:19pm northguineahills:

I saw the dead a few months before Jerry died just out of curiosity, before I was a fan, and loved the atmosphere. It took John Oswald's "Grayfolded" to unlock the gate for me...
  10:19pm Carmichael:

The manager of Blue Cheer said they were so loud “the air turned to cottage cheese”.
Avatar 10:20pm Jeff Conklin:

Hell yeah nice boaktown
Avatar 10:21pm Jeff Conklin:

GP just about ready, gonna have them hit at the top of the hour, so refresh yourselves accordingly
  10:22pm Ollie:

@Carmichael: I never heard that before, makes me want to have seen them even more, I have a feeling their studio albums don't do them justice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm medson:

My Dad worked for John Scher for a long time and I got to sit behind the sound board at the old Capitol Theater in Passaic NJ for lots of shows. I remember the Dead shows there as being pretty great
  10:27pm Carmichael:

@ollie, exactly. I was tired of hearing Truckin a million times, and at this concert they were just one of many bands. Incredible “aha” moment when Jerry just went off on his Martin. We thought, so that’s what all the hype is about.
  10:27pm Agent Peter:

@medson One of my favorite Capitol Theater sets was Jorma opening for Jerry & John Kahn. He played solo acoustic in a tux and he was flawless. Has to be a recording of it floating around somewhere..
Avatar 10:29pm Jeff Conklin:

@medson: Damn thats awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm medson:

@Agent Peter good thing the Capitol had in house video equipment. So much footage to watch online
Avatar 10:30pm Adamsworth:

@agent peter I just looked it up on youtube, and there are a few Jorma solo at the Capital Theater performances!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm medson:

@Jeff it was interesting for sure. My mom hated that he took me to work with him there for lots of reasons haha. But I loved the music. Couldn't get enough
Avatar 10:32pm Jeff Conklin:

I missed couch touring the DeadCo CO shows, anyone catch them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Ike:

Hi all! Oh, it looks like I missed the Dead. Hurrah! Celebration time! ;)
Avatar 10:35pm Jeff Conklin:

Do we ban Ike.... I'll leave it to you all for a vote...
Avatar 10:35pm Adamsworth:

I just remembered the one time I saw Wooden Shijps they were on an double booked show at a mediocre restaurant I worked at, and a pop punk band played for an hour, so WS only got to play like 10 minutes...AAARRRGH.
  10:37pm Agent Peter:

Don't see it in there. Would have been '83 or '84.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm medson:

The Shjips are one of my favorite bands
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Ike can stay, but he has to clean the goat's stall.
  10:45pm Woodland Prana Man:

That was a good Shjips track, I was listening to that album earlier today around the house. Are people digging Howlin Rain more than that dudes other band, Heron Oblivion? Certainly a different vibe
Avatar 10:45pm northguineahills:

Ah, I picked up the Baby Grandmothers LP a wile back
  10:46pm daveS:

Holy f Jeff this is a heavy set, yeow
Avatar 10:47pm Jeff Conklin:

Today was my first listen of the Howlin Rain...loving it. Saw them play live twice this weekend....DO NOT MISS THEM IF THEYRE COMING TO YOUR ZONE. Theyre on tour now...
  10:51pm Lucky:

Psyched to see Espers in September.
  10:52pm Carmichael:

Ike has to hold all the roaches for stoners.
Avatar 10:53pm Adamsworth:

whaaaat I didn't know Espers was playing live again. I assume they'll play here in Philly, can't wait.
  10:55pm Lucky:

Opening for Vetiver up here.
Avatar 10:57pm Adamsworth:

Looks like Vetiver are opening for them here, ha ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm medson:

BBIB is one of my favorite labels. They put out amazing stuff
  11:03pm J:

Buffering like forever
Avatar 11:05pm tuner fish:

love this band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm Jeezy:

Takes me right back to the Meadwlands parking lot, circa 86, lookin' for a miracle!

  11:20pm Chris H:

Dudes are crushing it
Avatar 11:21pm northguineahills:

I guess Garcia's Peoples is a better name then Jerry's Kids....
  11:21pm Chris H:

This is fantastic
  11:24pm Santos L Halper:

  11:32pm high:

good stuff.
  11:32pm opurt:

  11:44pm Chris H:

Hot damn
Avatar 11:48pm northguineahills:

Garcia Peoples, better then Glass Camel (an 80s/90s Dead tribute band)
Avatar 11:58pm northguineahills:

Thanks Jeff and Garcia's People!
  12:03am Santos L Halper:

Hah ngh, saw the Glass Camels back in the day, fun but its a different plane those Peoples are on
  12:17pm Joshua:

Dude, that Ulrich Rois....amazing. New discovery for me. Thanks. Also, belated nice one on the Brokedown Pods you did. Really insightful and full of new discoveries.
