Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Daniel. Waiting for the latest edition of the Bluminzine Wunderschnapps Monthly to arrive in the mail. Always lots of good articles and helpful life hints.
Avatar 10:00pm TDK60:

This music is helping cool down the crib.
  10:00pm Carmichael:

Franco, did you make it to Melbourne? I advise tire chains.
Avatar 10:02pm Franco Twinkie:

  10:02pm Carmichael:

Northern California. Ironically, we served popsicles.
Avatar 10:03pm Franco Twinkie:

Damn you!
Avatar 10:03pm Mayuko:

Haha! I do wanna know what Richard's parents were thinking about his recordings then too. Journalists should start interviewing moms and dads of all these artists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Olympia, Washington, seems to be the home of cool temps just now. vortex.plymouth.edu...
Also: Hi, Mayuko!
Avatar 10:06pm TDK60:

R.H. Kirk's parents may have been kept oblivious to his efforts; they sitting downstairs in the living room listening to Elton John.
Avatar 10:06pm Franco Twinkie:

I'm already all sentimental about the forth of July. We were on the beach in Venice and I was wearing a jacket!
  10:09pm chresti:

Will you see meteor clouds Tdk?
Avatar 10:11pm TDK60:

I don't know, chresti. Just saw a headline and posted here. It's now dark at this longitude. over...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm fleep:

go to disneyland, swap this soundtrack in for the one at 'it's a small world' you got a whole new ride
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Daniel Blumin:

Mayuko, absolutely! He was 19 at the time of that recording so I assume his parents were thrilled he was home rather than riding the night bus looking surly... but TDK could also be right. I guess we'll have to wait fer the interview/book!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Chop Scott:

You Sir are a proper madman. Cheers to the Blumin Man!!

Hallo, Fox!Thanks lots, Glen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm coelacanth∅:

i don't know -the rest of the galaxy is pretty used to calling it the fucked-up blue planet.
Avatar 10:34pm Franco Twinkie:

Bada Boom!
Avatar 10:35pm TDK60:

In the Esperanto language our planet is called "Tero." Now you know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm coelacanth∅:

hahaha Franco your avatar's hilarious!
Avatar 10:36pm Franco Twinkie:

Thanks Coel. I'm just a dirty plastic dummy that loves pie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm coelacanth∅:

TDK if that means "3" it's not very imaginative, is it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm coelacanth∅:

(or it it as in "terra"? ...same)
Avatar 10:39pm TDK60:

Yeah, Esperanto borrows from Latin some, basically it's the same as "terra."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm coelacanth∅:

right i guess "third" would be "tre".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm melinda:

@coel the Pathetic Blue Marble
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm fleep:

Mostly Harmless
  10:44pm Stepchild:

Hello and good evening everyone. Golly I do like this record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The blue marble with all the trash floating around in it.
  10:46pm ?:

A nimbus of neglect and contempt.
Avatar 10:47pm TDK60:

1982, when this hit the charts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Daniel Blumin:

Stepchild, the whole thing is wunderschnapps! Love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm coelacanth∅:

TDK and knocked Toni Basil down a notch
  10:52pm Stepchild:

@TDK, DB Yah I missed it the first go round at 17 (much more into Dead Kennedys etc at the time). Reissues!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Daniel Blumin:

The recordings are actually from '79 - foreshadowing the rise of Basil, coela!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm coelacanth∅:

definitely an influence
Avatar 10:54pm TDK60:

Just glanced a bit at site on Michel Deneuve - built a special instrument - the cristal -a keyboard with horn to help teach music to children.
Avatar 10:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Antonia Basilotta was a serious New Music composer at the Tape Center in San Francisco until she dropped acid at the Avalon and saw The Charlatans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm coelacanth∅:

(for the record i have nothing against Toni Basil it's just the first "chart" music that came to mind when i thought of 1982)
Avatar 10:57pm TDK60:

...reading more, it was Bernard and François Baschet who'd built it earlier in the 1950s. Yet another instrument I've never heard of before!
  10:59pm JakeGould:

Hey! That first Toni Basil album is good. She was dating Jerry Casale at the time so it’s basically her with Devo as the backing band.
Avatar 11:00pm TDK60:

I've forgotten who Toni Basil was, if I ever knew. '82 I was likely listening to English Beat, XTC, Clash, Peter Tosh, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm coelacanth∅:

then there's this, if you can't decide whether to play a musical instrument or play with marbles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm coelacanth∅:

i got that Toni Basil album when i found it for a buck in a used book store. i didn't hate it but it didn't stick to my ribs either. i had to hear "mickey" sung to me a lot by a girlfriend who nicknamed me something that rhymes with mickey.
  11:05pm grtyvr:

@cole wow!
  11:08pm chresti:

Avatar 11:10pm TDK60:

Stepchild: The DKs were a smart band to follow at 17.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm melinda:

Mickey is awful but I dug it at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm melinda:

I liked discovering that she was in Five Easy Pieces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm coelacanth∅:

i didn't hate it, but like stepchild i was more geared toward dks at the time.
Avatar 11:14pm Franco Twinkie:

Yes! One of the best things Toni ever did was the hitchhiker with a broken sewing machine in Five Easy Pieces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm melinda:

I don't remember the broken sewing machine part, but the other hitchhiker was good too, Helena Kallianotes.
Avatar 11:16pm TDK60:

The DKs were funny, subversive, challenged us to think.
Avatar 11:17pm Franco Twinkie:

I found the DK's a wee bit strident,but I wasn't seventeen when I saw them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm melinda:

Before I saw the film I always imagined 5 pieces of fried chicken for some reason.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm coelacanth∅:

  11:21pm jeff-m:

Made it finally
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Daniel Blumin:

coela, reminded me of her a bit as well... Hola, jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm melinda:

@Franco cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm Old Eric the Hat:

Fantastic right here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm coelacanth∅:

i was very into dead kennedys but they (he) made a giant leap toward sucking between their 2nd & 3rd albums. pure preachiness set to recycled music. i was really bummed at that point, as all my favorite bands had turned to shit by c.1983.
Avatar 11:28pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, I did like Police Truck/Holiday In Cambodia, which was engineered and produced by Chresti's old boyfriend. Don't tell her I told you guys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Old Eric the Hat:

RIP Chad Coffey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm Daniel Blumin:

Greetz, Eric!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm melinda:

@coel "giant leap toward sucking" is a phrase to remember
  11:42pm chresti:

Ha ! giant leap toward sucking!
Avatar 11:43pm Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

Giant leap toward sucking. That's like the motto for the year of our Lord, 2018.
Avatar 11:48pm Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

@coelacanth∅ Although I think some of the DK's later work is worth listening to... maybe it's just coming to it as a young'un who discovered them in retrospect way past when they were recording as opposed to having been a fan from the get-go. I still prefer the earlier stuff, but I'll put on Frankenchrist or Bedtime for Democracy from time to time and be perfectly fine with it.
Avatar 11:49pm Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

Also, my dog is definitely not digging David Lee Myers. She just yelped and left the room. XD
