Options May 29, 2018: Goodbye Ruby Tuesdays, Hello Wednesdays, Gently Mixed Days @7pm!

Irene, gently mixing@wfmu

Station Manager Ken has asked me to try a new venture for the summer. My shows will air on Wednesdays at 7pm. Irene Trudel-Gently Mixed Up is what I'll be calling this hour-long show, presenting live performances exclusively. I hope to return to a regular mixture of recorded music and live performances next September.

Listener comments!

  9:01pm Eugene R.:

Better one hour a week than no hours a week (like last Summer). We shall persist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Listener John from NJ:

Hello all! I look forward to your Wednesday sh0ws and more 3 hour shows next fall.
  9:04pm Andrew:

Starting next week, Irene? Or tomorrow? Missed you last summer, so agree with Eugene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Switchblade Batman:

So isle of dogs was pretty good right?
Avatar 9:10pm TDK60:

Switching gears, for a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Irene Trudel:

Hi everybody! Yes. it's true-- I'll be moving to Wednesdays at 7pm starting next week. And it will be exclusively a live music program. But better that than nothing. I have several great live sessions already recorded, so it will be a bit of work to edit but still plenty of music. And yes, Switchblade Batman, I really enjoyed Isle of Dogs, which we saw yesterday. And I love that album by West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm deesat:

I will GREATLY miss this show, Irene! One of the (if not, THEE) best show on FMU. But looking forward to the live shows on Wednesdays.
  9:21pm katharsis:

Hellos. Thanks for the updates.
Avatar 9:23pm TDK60:

Sometimes a song like that, I can't post during it.
  9:30pm katharsis:

Ooo I like

Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Jinx:

"What If I Said You Were Dead" is the second Elk City song i've heard. both hella good.
Avatar 9:35pm JakeGould:

You know, the 1 hour shows on this station are pretty solid. So hey, I think you can make this work! Has there ever been a purely live WFMU show before? I trust your work on this, Irene!
Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Jinx:

doh! :/
Avatar 9:43pm Jeff Moore:

If anyone can pull that off, it's Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Jeff! Jake, there were two shows on WFMU featuring live music in the past-- Nick Hill's Live Music Faucet, where I gained a lot of my engineering skills, and Live at the Stork Club. But there hasn't been one strictly for a while.
  9:50pm andrewb:

why does this remind me of big blood
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm Irene Trudel:

andrewb, can you suggest a tune of theirs? I'm one of the few that don't really know Big Blood's music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Irene Trudel:

Going back to the live music show idea, part of why I started doing it on my own shows is taht I loved doing those sessions with Nick and Stork so much. I couldn't seem to find enough people to consistently help engineer on my daytime shows, and since I had the skills, I just decided to do it myself. These days I have a couple of great, young engineers eager to help (thanks Bryn Scharenberg!) My options are a lot better these days. However, I do love also doing a regular record/CD show, so I'm hoping to get back to it next schedule.
  10:04pm Will:

Was there ever a band named Novocaine?
Avatar 10:09pm TDK60:

Will: I dunno. There was a band called Blue Cheer, another called Morphine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Summer and Michael:

Loving these gorgeous opening sets, Irene. Wonderful to have filling the room. Thank you. With love...
Avatar 10:17pm TDK60:

WFMU's Artist/Band Browser reveals a band, Hashish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Bandcamp knows all, sees all. novocaine.bandcamp.com
Avatar 10:20pm TDK60:

Yes, Irene the music tonight is wonderful. // Ah, "From Bergen, Norway, ladies and gentlemen, it's Novocaine!"
Avatar 10:26pm TDK60:

There's an Opium Eater metal band over in New Zealand. Will, ya got me going...
  10:27pm Will:

Now that my Novocaine question has been answered, an immediate thanks for that Scott Tuma piece, coulda gone on forever for me.
Avatar 10:35pm KP:

Hello, Irene, from somewhere south of NJ. Happy early birthday and good luck with the early hour. I'll miss waking up screaming to a howling Professor Dum Dum but that is the price we pay.
Avatar 10:35pm Manolo:

Hi Irene, thank you so much for a wonderful show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Manolo. If you see Shari Barclay, tell her "Hi" from me.
Avatar 10:53pm KP:

This is primo Irene and we are not even into the last hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for the kind words, KP! Hope you both escaped that horrible flooding. And thanks Manolo.
Avatar 11:04pm KP:

Yes. That seems close but there was no hint of it here and we are right on water.
  11:15pm cronbat:

Looking forward to your new show on Wednesdays, but looking forward even more to your return to the three hour show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Irene Trudel:
