Serena Jost live on WFMU 2018-05-22

Live performance and chat with Serena Jost
Classically-trained singer/songwriter/cellist Serena Jost added her angelic singing and playing to the original line up of Rasputina before deciding to set out as a solo artist. Splitting her formative years between The Midwest, Switzerland and points in between, Serena says, "she found her cello wrapped in a brown blanket in a basement in northern Michigan," and has been writing gently eccentric songs with it ever since.. "Up To The Sky" is Jost's newest collection of songs for voice and cello, captured live in the historic St. Peter's Church in Chelsea, NYC. Serena Jost (pronounced "YO-st") visited WFMU to play some of them live.

Hello Irene. I almost never get to listen live. Enjoying this David Darling track.

Hi Irene and Serena!

Sitting on a big flat stump on the edge of chicago's humboldt park lagoon at twilight. It has rained good and hard recently, and the park is having a glowy, verdant moment. Add this music and we have some got/lotr/highlander feels.
Many thanks. You're a gem.

Hi duke, Pete and feral! Happy to provide a nice soundtrack to your evening. Serena Jost is going to play live shortly, which will be a nice treat.

... presto, a delicious antidote to a grueling week in the bowels of the restaurant industry. Again, thanks a million.
  9:57pm Marc Farre:

So lovely to hear 2 dear friends chatting on the air... all the way from California. Serena, your music is filing the air, mingling with the sun.

Thank you, Irene!

Nice cello and singing, so soothing. Wasn't it a few wks ago that a guest on this show mentioned a gig and said "our fans were playing air cello".

this Nickel Bag song is great, would have been great if Marc Almond covered it!

Long ago, I thought Marc Almond was the same as Mark and Almond...
