Avatar 9:40am TDK60:

Wild Neil: Isn't a paradox that Neil, who's so associated with vocal lyrics, to have started his solo career with an instrumental?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am The Oscar:

I'm a sucker for a song where the singer imitates a guitar solo, especially when it doesn't match the actual guitar solo.
Avatar 9:42am dale:

wikiing bobby o, produced pet shop boys and created tons of other 'bands' as well (they were all just him basically).
Avatar 9:42am Marcel M:

I donno... I mean I think of him as a guitarist equally or even more so to his lyrics.

Avatar 9:43am Marcel M:

or vocals, rather.

Avatar 9:45am northguineahills:

Avatar 9:56am Joe McG:

Thanks, queems! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am karlward:

Joe: I just put in a matching request with my employer for all my marathon pledges. Most importantly though, I want to adopt the 7 inch record collection at WFMU, but only if the naming placard will read "A Joe McGasko Christmas."

I tried to adopt it under the name "A John Allen Christmas" but JA rebuffed me due to what he called "the sound of ornaments breaking." Then I realized my mistake: the 7 inches are truly the spirit of a McGasko Christmas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am MD:

Commin' At You Joe!!!
Avatar 9:59am Joe McG:

Ha! Thanks, karlward! That sounds very flattering.
Avatar 10:00am TDK60:

a suggestion for future marathons, especially the not-so-silent-marathon in fall: find a permanent spot for the phone number in the widget, or at the bottom of the page. if it's visible it's easier to remember to make the call, and navigating to the "home" page and then back ..... and it'll be helpful if the widget is faulty, too. well, all those clicks and stuff.. there, throw that 2 cents in the can..
Avatar 10:48am herb.nyc:

Late to the show today but made it in time for the end of Little Mini Single File. And Dolly! Caught a show last year called "Dolly Would" about the many sides of Ms Parton (and, to a lesser extent, about the first cloned sheep, who was named Dolly after her)

Gateway Drugs to Country Music:
1. Neil Young (duh!)
2. Cowboy Junkies
3. Handsome Family "Weightless Again" on youtube
4. Anything by Johnny Cash

I like hearing Joe go negative and trash community radio.

When I was a teenager one of the local classic rock stations had a Saturday morning blues show. I tuned in once to hear the DJ back-announce, and at first I thought he was doing a bit, because EVERY SINGLE ARTIST was a white rocker-guy from the '70s or '80s.
  11:23am JakeGould:

*cough* Laura Walker of WNYC *cough*
Avatar 11:23am fred:

@steveo: I work at an institute dedicated to contemporary (classical) music. Upturned noses are a vocational hazard
  11:25am melinda:

And thanks for the birthday wishes! While at the station I was high on marathon and forgot my birthday was coming up.
Avatar 11:25am herb.nyc:

re bandwidth, singer JOE PERNICE told us of his friend's band's name, 10. it's a duo, and 1 guy is thin and 1 guy is very rotund. dya get it? (i've said this on chatborads before, sorry)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am frozen_peas:

Right with you, melinda. Tell it like it is, Joe!
Avatar 11:27am northguineahills:

@Wild Neil: I just played Becky's "Honky Tonk Radio Girl" premium in my car w/ my wife last month, and finally converted her to old country. I knew she liked Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and the Carter Family, but I knew that premium into one of the converted.
  11:27am queems:

everyone sounds like they are having a lot of fun over there this morning and that is making my day tolerable
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am steveo:

@fred - I didn't know that! How lovely to work in music.
  11:28am Emily:

@queems ditto!

Laura Baird!

Loves me some Baird Sisters!
  11:32am melinda:

@herb that's funny
Avatar 11:32am herb.nyc:

dbh, what a plain and simple band name. versus upturned noses. (there was a party hosted by an ecology group. lotsa people attended and this older man came, and wore a YALE sweatshirt. how hoity toity.)
Avatar 11:33am fred:

@herb.nyc: I remember an Indian music show where the Mridangam player was tall and thin, while the Ghatam guy was smaller and pot-bellied
  11:34am JakeGould:

@herb.nyc: What does the Yale sweatshirt have to do with anything? Half of the people cops dealt with on the TV show “COPS” wore ivy league sweatshirts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am olivia:

Get in the running for these prizes, people! Chances are high for Baird and dbh!
Avatar 11:37am northguineahills:

I hadn't heard That Dog in over 20 years, and now, I've been hearing them everywhere on WFMU, thanks Joe!
Avatar 11:38am Marc Francis:

Oh man! I forgot about this band. I remember That Dog from way back when Beck was just a little guy (musically) and would work with them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Summer and Michael:

Go, Joe, Go! We love you! And great to hear Olivia this morning , too!
Avatar 11:40am herb.nyc:

@jakegould - i think it was YALE, in nice big letters, i saw on the butt of a woman's fleece sweatpants. ugh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am BronwynB:

What happens?!?!?!
  11:43am JakeGould:

@herb.nyc: Like PINK but YALE? I don’t know about that.
Avatar 11:45am northguineahills:

When I dj, online, radio, or at clubs/parties, I'm only limited by the vinyl I bring, which is only limited by what I bring, which is usually 5x of what I need. I have no idea what will happen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Uncle Michael:

I plan mainly because of the data entry involved with playlists.
Avatar 11:47am fred:

@BronwynB: perfect rhythm then. When do you get a weekly show?
  11:50am JakeGould:

“Yo! Han!” That is a line guaranteed to be in that new Han Solo movie.
Avatar 11:50am ||||||WILD||||||||||||||NEIL||||||||||:

I have a children's sausage with gluten free bread for lunch...oh no, that's dinner for before snowboarding! I have beef stew/goulash from home. Beef is SO tender, made with love!

Well, there's Carlsberg, but it's crap, but Krönleins and Åbro are pretty good.

That sounds awesome, Wild Neil, don't make me hungry, all I have for lunch is leftover pizza (too busy to cook today).
