Hey daddy Duane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm JtotheK:

hi duane, hi everyone.
Avatar 12:08pm Jshatan:

Greetings all! Have you heard about #MWE on Twitter? It's a "Music Writer Exercise" where you listen to one album you've never heard before and write a tweet about it. For today's pick I'm going with an album from today's time on the Train - it's in your hands, Duane!
Avatar 12:10pm Duane:

Jshata: I've heard about that! Sounds fun actually. I'll do my best:)
Avatar 12:16pm Jshatan:

It might be this Evidence album - I haven't clocked the whole thing yet!
Avatar 12:20pm ron in S FL:

This is mad, I love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm JtotheK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Bobby Whirlwind:

Hi Duane, great tunes. I mistook the danYb track for Todd Terje
Avatar 12:56pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

OMG I missed Dr Octagon? So cool to hear there is new stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Passaic River Blues:

Avatar 1:04pm Jshatan:

What day is it that you need the cooks? I missed the date...
Avatar 1:06pm Duane:

alanr & Jshatan: Any day really. I think the best thing to do is to email Scott and let him know what days your are available to cook.
Avatar 1:07pm Jshatan:

Gotcha! Will email.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Kat in Chicago:

I see on the premiums list that there are a couple of other DJs doing femme-centric comps this year as well. My inner Sharvette is happy.
Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

this is a jam.
  1:15pm Josh:

Avatar 1:16pm alanr:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Kat in Chicago:

oooh this remix
  1:25pm still b/p:

Finally saw the Nina doc last week. It’ll tint and inform all hearing of her a bit from now on. Which is fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Michael 98145:

- nice -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Passaic River Blues:

That was a masterful reworking of that song, staking out new territory but preserving the core of the original interpretation.
Avatar 1:33pm geezerette:

Duane, really appreciating this set. Picking up my spirits.
Avatar 1:34pm geezerette:

...& what Passaic said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm melinda:

hi all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Michael 98145:

( i could just happily listen to her "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" on repeat for a very long time :)
Avatar 1:36pm geezerette:

Howdy, Melinda!

  1:49pm kev:

hi Duane, how's about rubber band man for about 15 min
Avatar 1:52pm Duane:

kev: I know Mr. Moulton has a mix:) dunno if it's 15 minutes though
Avatar 1:53pm Wild Neil:

Duane, my wife works with a rapper at Home Depot. Can I send you a demo tape or link to his stuff? He's in Lockport, NY, his name is Heff.
Avatar 1:53pm Wild Neil:

I don't know if you actually play rap music...I am that ignorant!
Avatar 1:54pm Duane:

WIld Neil: Sure..hope it's good:) people send me stuff all the time here
  1:56pm kev:

Avatar 1:56pm Duane:

kev: Dont have it handy this week..or else i would've!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Michael 98145:

great musics.
thanks again, DJ Duane.
Avatar 1:57pm Wild Neil:

I hope its good too! I will will try it and see. I like Public Enemy and The Beastie Boys but that is as far as I got. I really like HYPNOTIC PSYCHEDELIC STUFF. Any rap or hip hop recommendations? Wu Tang clan is into conspiracy theories like I am , but I am not sure I like em. Are you at Duane@wfmu.org?
Avatar 1:59pm Jshatan:

I think Freeez is using the same synth bass as Paradise by Change!
Avatar 1:59pm Wild Neil:

waka ja waka
waka ja waka
waka ja waka
I hear a wa wa pedal go....
Avatar 2:00pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Labelle would be a good name for a record label.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm BronwynB:

neil, you could also try asking billy jam if he wants to hear it, him being one of the biggest hip hop heads at fmu. as for recs, i was once a total newcomer to hip hop like yourself (still am more or less but getting more knowledgeable) and a tribe called quest's low end theory and nwa's straight outta compton helped me get more into it
  2:02pm kev:

can't wait, I'll be listening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm BronwynB:

disclaimer: i know little about this and other djs can help you way more but thought i would offer my 2 cents as a fellow newcomer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm JFR:

Avatar 2:05pm Wild Neil:

@Bronwyn and Duane-they guy has a family with 3 kids, he deserves a break! Thanks! Will check out NWA and TCQ.
Avatar 2:08pm Duane:

WIld Neil: I got rugrats too..but i'll do my best to try to check it out.
Avatar 2:09pm Wild Neil:

Yeah the guy hand wrote his website and my wife has a pic of it on her phone, so its a process to even get it, never even met the dude....Kids are awesome!
Avatar 2:17pm Cecile:

Wild Neil, my appreciation of the Wu-Tang Clan jumped exponentially when I started watching classic Shaw Bros Kung Fu movies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm melinda:

I am dilly-dallying.
Avatar 2:19pm Cecile:

The rapper Azeem is very listenable and also very big on conspiracy theories.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm BronwynB:

i love any version of this song. the first one i heard, before the real thing, was actually the weird lo fi beach boys version
Avatar 2:20pm Cecile:

Yes, definitely have Heff contact Billy Jam.
Avatar 2:28pm Wild Neil:

What is the trippiest most psychedelic hip hop ?
Avatar 2:29pm Cecile:

IME, PM Dawn.
Avatar 2:30pm Duane:

Divine Styler, Anti-Pop Consortium, Dream Warriors
Avatar 2:31pm Cecile:

Dream Warriors, definitely.
Avatar 2:31pm Cecile:

Canada's finest!
  2:32pm still b/p:

Must go OUT and walk in the (ever less freaky) warmth! Have device, will carry. (Paladuane...Pal o’ Duane...for them that remembers the post that’s hitched to.)
Avatar 2:36pm Wild Neil:

The Aquarians. Clicky star immediately!
Avatar 2:42pm Wild Neil:

This Dionne Warwick is pretty trippy, man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Passaic River Blues:

Dälek is weird as hell. Shabazz Palaces. Flying Lotus productions. Flatbush Zombies. Styles of Beyond used to rap about aliens a bunch. Ab-Soul's song "Nibiru" is an explicit examination of paranoia but also uses the idea of existential fear of mass death as a metaphor for his own prowess. I love, love that song.
Avatar 2:48pm Wild Neil:

Random cool link about a human camera obscura:nymag.com...
Avatar 2:48pm Wild Neil:

THANKS PRB I will refer back to this list again and again!
Avatar 2:50pm Cecile:

Oh! Clppng. It's weird, challenging stuff, even though their rapper was Jefferson/Lafayette in the original production of Hamilton.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Itzall Ablurr:

Wild Neil, pardon my bad memory but was it you I remember talking (on the board) about the value of old windows/original-to-the-house old? Random thought, but not really, I'm thinking about a remodel at home.
Avatar 2:51pm Wild Neil:

@Itzall-that's interesting, and I think cool sash weight windows are cool, but it was not me. SOUNDS LIKE me though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Itzall Ablurr:

Yeah... you know how these random convos go sometimes, and it HAS been a few weeks (Months?) back. I remember somebody extolling the virtues of keeping the old ones instead of replacing with modern (i.e., energy efficient) windows. Color me flummoxed.
Avatar 2:54pm Wild Neil:

@Itzall-just do a google search on it and the forum should pop up. google wfmu old windows and itzall ablurr, should pop right up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm melinda:

Itzall I remember that convo but I had nothing to contribute, don't remember who did.
Avatar 2:56pm Cecile:

how old were the Moments?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Itzall Ablurr:

I would never consider a home project without consulting WFMUs hive-mind.
Kind of kidding but not really. Wild Neil, it WAS you with the market study concerning the hiring of children for precise gardening and pest removal, correct? See, I can remember some (totally useless to me) things...
Avatar 2:57pm Duane:

Cecile: early 20's at the time of the recording ('69)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Itzall Ablurr:

Dear melinda, but what did you know, and WHEN did you know it?!? haha
Avatar 2:58pm Wild Neil:

Oh yeah, my 14 year old pinched Japanese beetles for a couple of hours and I was getting pricing here.
Avatar 2:58pm Cecile:

They really sound young! Like teenagers.
Avatar 2:58pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Wonderful show as usual Duane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Itzall Ablurr:

Haha. Yeah, that was awesome. Spring's around the corner...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Itzall Ablurr:

Great show as always, Duane! Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm chris:

thanks, Duane! wonderful fun listening on the train today! :)
Avatar 3:00pm βrian:
