Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

  12:41pm dan:

Tony Kaye is returning to Yes in 2018 after a 20+ year hiatus. I might consider getting tickets for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Rich in Washington:

Mark Lindsay must've been hot stuff in 1970, because I remember all the teenage girls who were teaching assistants in my Kindergarten class asking me over and over if I was related to him because of our shared last name. I remember thinking they were serious and wondering who this Mark guy was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm doctorjazz:

Great version of this Bernstein classic! Never heard this.

I hadn't looked at track title, and when they went this way, I had a little mental bend moment. "They're doing what?"

Avatar 12:46pm still b/p:

Lindsay very prominent in teen music idol mags in the day.

Imagine the keyboards hauled around the NY streets as the gangs stick and jab and dodge and dance.
  12:47pm dan:

Saw Mark Lindsay as part of the Happy Together tour a few years ago. Guy has more energy than Jagger and still sounds great.
  12:48pm goyim in the am:

Tony Kaye had that garage band realness that more prog bands could have used.

I saw Mark Lindsey a couple of years ago backed by the Gripweeds and performing with Susan Cowsill at what I guess you woudl call a pop culture convention called Super Megafest in MA. They played in one of the smaller banquet rooms of the hotel we were all staying at.

Last I heard he was still leading bands in Florida.
Avatar 1:02pm northguineahills:

Sam Rivers got me out my indie ghetto my freshmen year if college, by the end of the year I was checking out Stockhausen scores at the uni music library. What of hell of gateway he was for me. Thanks Sam! (his Rivbea studio was in Orlando, so he toured FL extensively at the time).

Many WFMUers are familiar with Citizen Freak by 49th Parallel, from late 60s -- another very interestingly rap-zonish track.
Avatar 1:03pm northguineahills:

(he passed almost 6 years ago :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Uncle Michael:

Citizen Freak seems like that sorta Dylan/Zappa rap, yes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm doctorjazz:

Oh, sorry, missed that one, sad. Love this track, though.
Avatar 1:05pm still b/p:

Yes, yes...and reminds also of bits that came later -- Stones' Shattered and Blondie Rapture.

Rock and Roll flute. True ear candy
Avatar 2:32pm coelacanth∅:

this is pretty good, but i think the singer couldn't decide whether to sound more like plant or like osbourne. (the 'tull influence is obvious)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Uncle Michael:

I think he sounds disturbingly like Chris Cornell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm joe:

That would explain it Dave The Spazz played it last night. Or am I injecting things that have already been spoken about and I'm just real late to the game.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Uncle Michael:

Nope, you're the first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm joe:

Cornell was born in '64.

Probably coincidental. Audience does have at least one other great track...very different.
