What a clueless response.

Big Tech is a secular religion. There's a lot of magical thinking.

I read that article. Was not surprised at all.

Hurricanes should not be measured by a death rate.

Facebook wasn't hardly the first social media site. It was preceded by many. Also, Silicon Valley is a sitcom - it's not about technology.

Isn't still close to 2/3rds of PR are w/o electricity?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Webhamster Henry:

The electricity news from PR: fortune.com...
  6:21pm Timpoanotos Slim:

geezerette, i don't think it's so much that Big Tech is a religion as many who are in big tech leadership have religious views of technology. It may be because they see technology from the executive vantage point, and not the nuts-and-bolts point. They have a mystical perception because they have removed themselves from reality.

I'm actually mapping hurricane disturbance to vegetation in the Everglades right now from Hurricane Irma.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I've not heard anything yet on the status of former WFMU DJ HotRod (aka Atabey). I believe she relocated to PR.
Avatar 6:29pm geezerette:

TS, we actually agree. There's a cult like aspect. I know some long time Los Altos thinkers, people who were coding in the '70s. Not one of them myself.
  6:32pm Timpoanotos Slim:

Beliefs like technological singularity, simulationism, and to some extent "Moore's law" are just religion for nerds.

Avatar 6:35pm geezerette:

ngh, interesting! What a great job, seeing real world things the news is made of.

TS, that industry consists of nerds, even the sales force.
  6:36pm Timpoanotos Slim:

I've been in the tech industry for 20 years. The sales force might skew nerdy but there's a difference between being into tech and knowing how to build it

Ha! I just got one saying that 3 people had just unfriended me on FB and telling me to install a new app to find out who did this. Only prob, I'm not even on FB!

ya know... anybody dumb enough to think the i.r.s. or the c.r.a. will take bitcoin or itunes gift cards in lieu of cash kinda deserves to be scammed.
