Avatar 9:09am Joe McG:

@Brian: Well, I've purposely chosen music that isn't too punk or hip-hop (which I don't play much of anyway) so I don't run into too much trouble!
Avatar 9:09am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe. Sunshine and a sharpness in the air over here. Spring cleaning the kitchen.

Hola, Joe and McGaskets. One more day to Halloween. Silver Shamrock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Itzall Ablurr:

Rob, it's basically the same as "devil's night", the night before Halloween when you run amuck and roll yards, soap windows and other anachronistic acts of childhood terror. The only place I've ever heard the term used is in Passaic County, where my wife grew up.
  10:12am John in Bklyn:

Skeptical old timey label suit behind the glass drops his frown and starts shaking his head along with hippie music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Rob (Jerzcity):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Itzall Ablurr:

I need to know where the term "Goosey" came from, she don't know and she smart! Maybe it's one of those "if you don't know, you don't NEED to know" things...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Passaic River Blues:

In Orange County, NY (Jersey border) it was generally called either "Gate Night" (unsure of the origin of that one) or Devil's Night. ... This Korean version of "Scarborough Fair" is excellent.
Avatar 10:17am Davee:

Cabbage night in River Vale NJ where I grew up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Parq:

In Bergen County in the 60s, we called it Cabbage Night. I can only assume the name goes back to vandalism committed in what was then farm country.
  10:17am John in Bklyn:

@queems That's what I said, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Itzall Ablurr:

queems, I'm starting to think she is just f#cking with me about the whole Goosey thing. She's from Little Falls, you know how THEY are...

I do the same thing on a portable music player when dog walking-often surprised by the stuff I've gotten but haven't heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Parq:

Davee, I assume that, like Cabbage Night, the name referred to a favorite object of vandals' attention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Passaic River Blues:

@Parq: it was what we said as kids but I don't know why. Perhaps it was because kids would gently vandalize the gates or curtilage of hated neighbors' properties?
  10:23am John in Bklyn:

@Joe Wow, I wonder how they got the rights to use the name. Maybe the estate got some royalties? What a goofy record to have on that label! haha
Avatar 10:23am Joe McG:

Avatar 10:55am Fernando P:

Avatar 10:55am Joe McG:

@Fernando: Nope! Fill me in! BTW, you kind people, I only have Lucky 7 bucks left to go to reach my goal.
Avatar 10:55am northguineahills:

Well, I've heard this Buffalo Daughter before.
Avatar 10:56am northguineahills:

And it's sublime!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Passaic River Blues:

@NGH: absolutely.
Avatar 10:56am Joe McG:

@ngh: Who are they?
Avatar 10:57am Fernando P:

that song, Cheirinho de Buceta, was about the nice smell of a woman´s private parts.
Avatar 10:58am Paul In Bloomfield:

Yeah I want to hear what a 50s teen boy was all about in this wally and beaver universe!
Avatar 11:00am northguineahills:

They were a Japanese Band that caught the attention of the Beastie Boys. That's all I know.
Avatar 11:00am βrian:

Which makes me wonder: Do the FCC modesty police care about non-English words?
Avatar 11:00am Joe McG:

@Fernando: Whoa! Thank goodness it was in Portuguese, otherwise I'd be in trouble with the FCC. @Paul: The "aye"s have it!
  11:02am judy from croton:

Having my usual difficulty pledging (tech dope) but it WILL HAPPEN
love the music joe. Goes way under the surface.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am ɨkɛ:

  11:11am Dean:

The "What Is a..." single was "directed by" Mort Garson, an early synth musician who worked with Bernie Krause, among others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Passaic River Blues:

Brian Turner would know that Reactors track.
Avatar 11:11am Wild Neil:

The Polish word for "aunt" sounds exactly like the spanish dirty word for lady parts. Also, ask a Pole to make a duck sound. It is kwa and sounds exactly like kva say it ten times fast and you will laugh! EXTREMELY dirty!
Avatar 11:13am Brian in UK:

@Dean talking of Bernard Krause. Have you ever heard Tremonisha Scott Joplin's opera. Beaver & Krause covered one of the songs on All Good Men.
Avatar 11:15am Brian in UK:

Toe Rag is strictly analogue.
Avatar 11:19am northguineahills:

@Wild Neil: Kurwa!
Avatar 11:20am Joe McG:

@Brian: Thanks! @steveo: No, but I appreciated the effort, so thanks! @Dean: Thanks, I forgot to announce the Mort Garson part.
Avatar 11:21am themutante:

Anybody else tempted to say EEWWWWWW to this track title?
  11:21am Dean:

@Brian in UK: I remember the release in the mid-'70s of Treemonisha on Deutsche Gramophon, a big splash. But I haven't heard a measure of it! Looks like "Real Slow Drag" was the closing tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am steveo:

Thanks, Joe, at least the station gets the money....
  11:24am Stevel:

  11:38am John in Bklyn:

  11:38am Mark in Toronto:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am steveo:

  11:45am Mark in Toronto:

@John in Bklyn, Pablo Cruise DID have a hit with a song called Love Will Find A Way, And this sounds very much the same. Maybe PC version is the cover.
Avatar 11:46am northguineahills:

Lenny Dee did a lot of space aged bachelor pad music and exotica in late 50s into the 60s.
  11:47am Brendan:

Aintry? Boy you ARE lost....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Summer and Michael:

Hey, Joe. We forgot to tell you how much we liked your appearance on Samantha's show two Sundays ago. Great set! And... we know that Tubes album. Had no idea you & Sheila had performed that track during The Marathon. We'll need to look that up in the archives! Great show, as ever. Have a terrific week! x

Avatar 11:50am Joe McG:

@Dean: ! @Sem: Ha ha, certainly not mine.
  11:50am John in Bklyn:

@Mark Wow, I didn't even realize that WAS one of their hits! I think you may be right. PC was the quintessential "yacht rock" band! haha
