Bonjour Joe !

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am pantz:

Call me a hippie, but in dark times such as these it's the simple pleasures I like to recognize: family, friends, black coffee and good music.

This is amazing!

Good morning, Mr. Joe and all. Enjoy this time-change Monday a.m. while it's fresh, next week it will seem normal again.

Coming next week to NYC, do you know if there is any place I could hear this kind of music ?

Pretty guitar music this a.m. perfect for a damp and gray morning in Fall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am steveo:

Good morning Joe & all. Yes, it finally feels like fall now; at least the trees seem to think so.
  9:28am SeanG:

summertime is just around the corner!
Avatar 9:28am Brian in UK:

This is very early Strawbs, almost Strawberry Hill Mob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am pantz:

Did anyone happen to see the interview with Art Garfunkel on CBS Sunday Morning? This folksy music made me think of it. The poor guy has completely lost his singing voice yet he just went on tour. It was kinda sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am ChrisVB:

He was unrecognizable.
  9:32am Dennis Diken:

love that Ranny Sinclair track!

Good morning and happy Monday! Just got chewed out at work for the music being too loud - guess I thought I could get away with turning up the volume on these chill autumn tunes a bit. So be it.
Avatar 9:36am Joe McG:

@pierre: I'm not sure! But I can check the listings for you! @cosmic: Billy Higgins at work! @Dennis: I love that whole album!

Wow - you're killing it today Joe. Keep those grooves comin!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Krys O.:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am steveo:

What is the canonical place for NYC live music listings these days? Is there one?
Avatar 9:41am Joe McG:

@krampus: Sorry, Krampus, it will pick up and some point! Hey, Krys O! Thanks, Peter and cosmic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am annie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Itzall Ablurr:

Mystery Train. Such a great movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Krys O.:

This Presley reminds me of Plunderphonics. Don't...don't....ddddddon't.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Matt Fiveash:

Hey Joe! Did this Elvis thing come into the new bin?
Avatar 9:45am pierre:

and Joe, I was willing to ask, is there a easier, more convenient time or day to come and visit the radio, and is it even possible ?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Itzall Ablurr:

The Oscar, I don't recall that from American Werewolf, I just remember the C.C.R. "Bad Moon Risin'". Was it really used?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am The Oscar:

@Itzall Been a few years, but IIRC it's over the opening credits. Also "Moondance," "Moon Shadow," etc...
Avatar 9:48am Sem Chumbo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am steveo:

Excellent @Dominick; that looks quite comprehensive / has some small venues in my neighborhood. Thanks!
Avatar 9:49am Brian in UK:

Elvis had four mothers?
Avatar 9:52am Brian in UK:

@Sem there is a pub called the Slaughtered Lamb in London where I believe some of that film was made. In the basement is a cozy little folkish club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Itzall Ablurr:

The Oscar, it's time for me to re-watch that movie! It was a "date night" movie for me and my wife when it came out in the early 80s, so it HAS been a while!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Vincent Nifigance:

Elvis was..."America's first private owner of a prototype VCR. Unfortunately, it was the soon-to-be-defunct Betamax." Awesome!
Avatar 9:55am Paul In Bloomfield:

who is this background music again? i missed it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Passaic River Blues:

Avatar 9:59am Sem Chumbo:

Brian: those pictures of the joint are pretty great, I want to recall the scenes filmed there, but nothing of it stuck. Like the lay-out.

Avatar 10:06am Paul In Bloomfield:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am annie:

hehe paul, that's great!! i just peek at my list now and then. in a time of boredom i may create a musical list on YT... or not..a dedicated FMU playlist, what a concept.
Avatar 10:08am Joe McG:

@Paul: Right on the money, Paul!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am ChrisB.:

The fact that these last four tracks are from 2017 gives me hope for the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am pantz:

This has a Jessica Lee Mayfield sound to it.
Avatar 10:11am Paul In Bloomfield:

@Joe McG indeed sir!
Avatar 10:13am Paul In Bloomfield:

@annie thats a good idea about YT playlists. spotify works too. but both of those options have crappy ads :(
Avatar 10:13am Wild Neil:

Hey, what are Velvet Crush up to? They were big back in 94...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am annie:

yes.... they do..i have issues with firefox, though, this version hates video and music. i have to shut down tabs just to play tunes or chat here..
Avatar 10:15am Paul In Bloomfield:

ouch that stinks about firefox. safari gives me no issue for chat. i listen via iTunes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am annie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Krys O.:

Aw, man, Doug Sahm. Yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am pantz:

It's about someone did @KP!
Avatar 10:35am Brian in UK:

If Jac Holtzmann had trouble with Delaney Bramlett it must be bad given that he had Jim Morrison on the label.
Avatar 10:35am Davee:

Singles going 1/2 an hour
Avatar 10:37am KP:

Funky but Grand
Avatar 10:37am Sem Chumbo:

I love the idea that it was called the Sir Douglas Quintet because they wanted to cash in on the *English invasion*.
Avatar 10:38am Davee:

  10:38am Schnipp:

@annie — the first time I thought I misheard. The second time I knew it was intentional. Good thing Joe’s such a good guy. I think he’s too young!
Avatar 10:38am Joe McG:

@Brian: He said in his book that Delaney was the worst artist he had to deal with in all his years at Elektra.
Avatar 10:39am Brian in UK:

JH "Something about Delaney made me itch"
Avatar 10:40am Davee:

Reggae - ahhhhhh
  10:42am nickrhombi:

masterful engineering job on locomotion. that slap back delay on the vocal, the over driven bass... probably one of farners best solos out of a caree of great solos. - studio magic there. what were those effects?!? (guessing clay is still in studio...)
Avatar 10:51am KP:

I sat at table next to Delaney's at My Father Place after she opened for EmmyLou. She was so loud, drunk and abusive - this was front row - during EmmyLou's set every started yelling at her to leave. She did with one last loud comment directed at EmmyLou, one i cannot repeat here due to FCC regulations.
  10:51am Schnipp:

How can this not be Dionne Warwick? New Jersey’s own!
Avatar 10:54am Joe McG:

@KP: Do you mean Bonnie Bramlett?
Avatar 10:54am Brian in UK:

It is an afternoon for crumpets and hot chocolate.
Avatar 10:54am Joe McG:

And how about this 80s drum sound on the X record, huh? Wowzer.
Avatar 10:55am Davee:

Over the top . . . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Rich in Washington:

X's production was all over the map throughout the 80s. Just recently revisited Under The Big Black Sun and still cannot warm to it.
Avatar 10:56am Brian in UK:

Clive Davis signed them up for a six record deal at $1m. They split up so they had to make six EACH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am pantz:

Def has a Jefferson Starship feeling to it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Hughie Considine:

But they really jumped the shark w. Aint Love Grand.

glad that is over
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Joe "$9,003 To Go" McGasko.
Avatar 10:58am Davee:

DEVO style here, a little....
Avatar 10:58am Wild Neil:

Yachts is so 80's sounding like Gary Numan. And its from 1979! Also, a bit like the Tubes, remember THEM? White Punks on Dope!
  10:59am Schnipp:

Great power pop here.

Have a friend who can’t stop raving about the underappreciated Scruffs, with or w/o Alex Chilton.
Avatar 10:59am KP:

Yes, Bramlett.
  10:59am rw:

I always wonder exactly how it is that someone becomes the yachting type.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Rich in Washington:

This band's name is actually pronounced Throat Wobbler Mangrove.
Avatar 11:00am Davee:

@ Rich - very good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am ChrisB.:

Love that little yelp at the end.
Swag For Life Member 11:00am tadpoles:

Yachts I think were one of those post-Mod bands in the wake of the Jam. The Lurkers also come to mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Rich in Washington:

rw: boating's fun, but even a small boat can be expensive. I would imagine, from the few yacht owners I personally know, it's the prestige of being a rich asshole who can hang out with other rich assholes and measure each other's yachts.
Avatar 11:01am Brian in UK:

Yacht is a Dutch word?
Avatar 11:02am Davee:

How long is it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Rich in Washington:

one yacht owner I know doesn't even do anything with his yacht other than pay moorage but hobnobs with the other yacht club members much more than doing any sailing.
Avatar 11:02am Wild Neil:

@rw-I know a lady that did not make a lot of money but she LOVED sailing so she found a way to get on yacht crews...I guess you just to to the yacht club, buy drinks and ask around? Its NOT All rich assholes...also they had a free program for youths teaching them to sail tiny sunfish. So not ALL stereotypes are true!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am annie:

manfredgensen; sorry every once in a while i have to spit that out.
Avatar 11:03am Wild Neil:

Yachts got a clickey star for that cool prog rock/pop rock sound!
Avatar 11:04am Brian in UK:

@annie like a fur ball?
  11:05am miles:

Blondie also did California Sun
Avatar 11:06am Wild Neil:

But yeah, " a boat is a hole in the water were you throw all your money."My brother had a 32 foot boat for awhile, had to sell it, so damn expensive just to HAVE much less to SAIL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Parq:

I wonder what Carole King thought about Grand Funk's version of "Loco Motion". Whatever, I'm sure getting royalty checks with the song back on the charts made her feel better about the whole thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am annie:

@Brian/UK: it's one of those tongue twisters i have say out loud, so when it comes back around on the guitar, i can be ready. i have almost that whole scene memorized.
  11:09am miles:

they did it live I believe & perhaps on that "picture this live" CD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am medson:

I already hear all those things you described
  11:12am miles:

now I'm doubting myself. I couldn't possibly be confusing it with "in the sun"? jeezers
Avatar 11:13am Joe McG:

That's OK, Miles, it's possible they did it live. But I don't think they ever recorded it in the studio.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Passaic River Blues:

Haven't thought about these guys since their self-titled six or seven years ago. Really astute choice to bring them in, Joe, as they are an absurdly talented group. As queems said, this IS really awesome.
Avatar 11:20am Joe McG:

It took them a long time to make their latest LP, but the wait was worth it, it's real good!

60s garage rockers The Iguanas . yeah they do a cool cover of California Sun

Lotta dancing going on this whole show. Unsure where it began, but it was early.

Joe, just for the record, i'm voting for the fall "silent marathon" to go live. i think you'll have much better results. my 2 cents..

Even a Muzak version of Sooner or Later could get me dancing.

SAVE it for later! Sheesh, I need lunch.
