Sami joiks in this, yep. Not sure about Freyja, I think the Norse & Sami were in conflict but not sure.
  7:20pm Listener Robert:

Wow.
Avatar 7:20pm Dan Bodah:

Wouldn't the norse have classified Sami as "skraelings"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Webhamster Henry:

Nice shouting tonight!

"the yodel mines"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Michael 98145:

Yma Sumac - "The government of Peru in 1946 formally supported her claim to be descended from Atahualpa, the last Incan emperor."
Avatar 7:27pm Dan Bodah:

@Michael, that's great! Source?
  7:29pm JakeGould:

@DanBodah: Was doing some nostalgia digging on David Lynch’s “Dune” and wonder if anyone in DJ culture has mixed that vocal weapon—or the words used to trigger in—in some way.
Avatar 7:30pm Dan Bodah:

@Jake, great idea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm melinda:

@Kat I'm still chuckling about yodel mines.
  7:31pm JakeGould:

@DanBodah: Will research it myself… But man that film stinks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Michael 98145:

Hello. Blackfeet had the best basketball team. #browning #bozeman
  7:50pm st joe:

Dan, have you seen the video of Tuvan singers, the chieftains, and Johnny guitar watson, together in Frank zappas home? it was on YouTube...

btw, Baby Gramps kicks ass!
Avatar 7:50pm Dan Bodah:

Baby Gramps: one of the few American roots musicians using throatsinging. The only others I can think of are the obscure, 1-song musician Arthur Miles ("Lonesome Cowboy") and arguably some blues "moan" singers -- Paul Pena made that connection explicit, but it's implicit with Howlin' Wolf & Captain Beefheart at times. Who else? Anyone? I guess there's also Tim Eriksen, who incorporates thoatsinging into some old-timey pieces.
Avatar 7:51pm Dan Bodah:

@St Joe, nope, thanks! I will look that up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm chris:

strong Irish influence in this track, it seems to me
  7:53pm MayorFrank Rizzo:

I feel sorry for the Cape Cod girls. March!!!!
Avatar 7:54pm Dan Bodah:

The band is basically Akron/Family, who set up in the studio as various lead musicians came through town to record these shanties with them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm chris:

its a beauty, this track. thanks for sharing and for another great show, Dan!
  7:56pm MayorFrank Rizzo:

You're going for a Pulitzer going from Cape Cod Girls to Pink Floyd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm melinda:

I like the Baby Gramps.
Avatar 7:57pm Dan Bodah:
