Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Ken From Hyde Park:

In radio jargon, is there a word for that between-station whistling sound that the Yips enjoy so much?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am SeanG:

Hiya Joe and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Bronwyn Bishop:

morning joe and everyone! nice choice to start things off
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am The Oscar:

Great song, but I can only ever hear Michael O'Donoghue's (massively un-radio-friendly) National Lampoon parody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am MikeG:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Brian in UK:

Joe, aptly named record label.
Avatar 9:10am Sem Chumbo:

Lovely follow up, Jonathan.

Avatar 9:16am Sem Chumbo:

@BiUK: how's the house hunting going?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Ken From Hyde Park:

Blondie is popping up everywhere these days. Directly or indirectly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Vincent Nifigance:

Do we call Joe John now? If it was my salutation I was talking to Mr Lennon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Wendy del Formaggio:

Good morning, Joe! I just tuned in -- I'm at work earlier than usual, so I get to listen. Yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am Brian in UK:

@Sem, more tidying up our place then looking right now. 300 mile round trip to where we are looking. So no rushing.

Here is Deborah and the boys on Later. Go to 24:35. Clem Burke can still hit those drums.
Avatar 9:21am Joe McG:

Thanks for coming by, everybody! Hope your week is off to a good start....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Brian in UK:

Jon maybe but never Jonny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am MattZ:

this is helping, thanks Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Brian in UK:

@Sem we are giving up the allotment, too much hassle and such poor soil, plus a twenty minute walk each way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am annie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Brian in UK:

Oh to walk out the back door and have a view and a decent sized garden. Dream on.

Happy 69th Brian Eno.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Vincent Nifigance:

Happy Birthday Brian. Eno, not Brian McGasko
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Wendy del Formaggio:

This is a great Eno song for today's weather here: chilly and rainy and grey.
Avatar 9:32am Joe McG:

@Todd: Yes, Jon is all about the new tunes. @Wendy: Eno is nice for a grey day and a cloudy day and a sunny day. :)
  9:32am Brendan:

@Ken from HP I don't know the technical name for that whistling sound between radio stations, but when I was younger , a friend and I discovered that if we simultaneously whistled very loud ( using the thumb and index finger in the mouth) and whilst doing so changed the pitches, a third 'ghost' frequency would join in. It had the same theremin like whistling you hear when tuning between stations on an analog radio dial. Probably a harmonic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Wendy del Formaggio:

@JoeG: Yeah, if it was sunny out, or snowing, I probably would have said the same thing, "A perfect song for today!" Eno is like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Tim 07030:

Hello there, Jonny M and Happy Birthday Eno! The Feelies busted out 'King's Lead Hat' Saturday night...
Avatar 9:34am Joe McG:

@Vincent: I could try Brian, but we already have one. Then again, we already have a Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Brian in UK:

Joe is Joe and ever more shall be so.
Avatar 9:38am Joe McG:

@Tim: Nice! They've been known to do that one over the years. @Brian: God shall bless you, good sir.
  9:39am JakeGould:

Howdy Joe and everyone. It's a real pleasure listening in real time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Guido from Cologne:

hello Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Ken From Hyde Park:

@Brendan - One could call it interference, I guess.
Avatar 9:44am Itzall Ablurr:

Vive le France!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am annie:

jeez, joe you are killin' it!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Wendy del Formaggio:

Haha, this Jerzimy song is so silly.
Avatar 9:46am Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am futurescamp:

I love a good accordion cover.
Avatar 9:49am Joe McG:

@Kurt: No, I'm going to stop at two.
  9:54am JakeGould:

Jajaja sounds a bit like Blondie in this track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Bronwyn Bishop:

amazing label name
Avatar 9:55am Itzall Ablurr:

Sarah Lee on bass?
Avatar 9:56am Joe McG:

Hello, Joe.
  10:00am JakeGould:

And here is that comp: www.crippled.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am SeanG:

maybe the Space Lady?
Avatar 10:03am Itzall Ablurr:

Joe, re; Sarah Lee- I think so. OK, I have no idea, but I WANT to believe that. When it started it did sound very Gang Of Four (before descending into kitty-dom).
  10:04am KP:

In Lexington, we used to sing Anarchy in the KU
  10:04am JakeGould:

@ItzallAblurr: *Bzzzt!!!* Wietn Wito was the bassist on that one. www.discogs.com...
Avatar 10:07am Joe McG:

@KP: Anarchy in the KP.
  10:09am JakeGould:

A nickel and a nail sounds like what every kids has in their pockets. That and a fidget spinner.
Avatar 10:11am cultofgozer:

Don Bryant just made Monday morning a whole lot better. Thanks, Joe!
Avatar 10:11am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Hey locals! Don't miss Don Bryant at Baby's All Right tomorrow night! Gaylord and Fine Wine (and yours truly) will be spinning 45's as well, alongside Jonathan Toubin and others!
  10:12am JakeGould:

Nickels spin. So do fidget spinners. You see I am onto something.
Avatar 10:12am Joe McG:

You bet, cultofgozer! Don't miss Don Bryant in NYC tomorrow night!
  10:22am KP:

Couldn't find that cover but did come across this:
Sorry Alex but you are completely wrong. Glen Matlock went on to join the Rich Kids after the Sex Pistols and is definitely not the same person as Sid Vicious.
Colin - Bradford, England
  10:22am McGreivey:

Rub. uh. This is rather distracting.
  10:37am JakeGould:

“The Sugar Shoppe” I knew it!
Avatar 10:38am Joe McG:

Oh, there you are! I thought you all died.
  10:39am blee:

I blew it.
Wow, of Monday ever needed a theme song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Vincent Nifigance:

@JoeMcG, what would you have played if we HAD all died. Be honest, what would you blast across the wasteland?
Avatar 10:42am Joe McG:

@Vincent: "Goodnight and God Bless"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am The Oscar:

This is the second time in the past week a DJ has played a surprisingly great Steve Alaimo song. Is he worth exploring more deeply?
Avatar 10:45am Joe McG:

@The Oscar: Some of his records are a little mainstream for my taste but some of them are terrific, like that Dan Penn cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Vincent Nifigance:

@Joe That'll do her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am The Oscar:

@Joe Sounds about right. Thanks!
  10:54am McGreivey:

Right Arm for Your Love: There's a dance that goes with that song. Obviously, it includes doing karate-chops with your left hand against your right arm.

There's also a Down on My Knees dance. And in the original video, the singer gets a pie in the face. They were literal that way.
Avatar 10:56am V Priceless:

T Bells! Woo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am The Oscar:

  10:57am lloyd michigan:

Don't remember this version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Brian in UK:

Joe, Mr Oldfield is 64 seems much older. Was only 17 when he played in Kevin Ayer's band.
Avatar 10:59am Joe McG:

@Brian: Only 19 when he recorded this!
  10:59am melinda:

I like the Bells.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Brian in UK:

Make Richard Branson a rich man and set up Virgin Records.
  11:00am blee:

Introducing the Instruments,
Lord help us!
Avatar 11:00am V Priceless:

Viv indeed!
Avatar 11:00am Whosondephone:

Slightly distorted guitar my ass
  11:00am Ro W.:

Perfectly explains the necessity of punk rock.
  11:03am lloyd michigan:

B-side. Aha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Brian in UK:

Would be a good day for walking on Hergest Ridge, along the England/Wales border.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Lewis:

@Brian in UK - sounds good to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Lewis:

(not that I have ever been there, but walking in that neck of the woods couldn't help but be good for the soul)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Rich in Washington:

This Sunwatchers album is amazing. Replicates being there live, complete with guy standing in front of you yammering away inanely for several songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Vincent Nifigance:

Jonathan Donahue from Mercury Rev is a big fan of North Wales: www.theguardian.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Michele:

I love this song so much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Brian in UK:

@Vincent in the article shows the village of Llanberis, where my wife was born. The centre building is Pete's Eats. If you turn left there and walk 100 yards there is the house where she was born.
Avatar 11:22am Joe McG:

Hi, Michele, sorry I missed you at the top of the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Michele:

Apology accepted. I'll see you at the station 2ish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Brian in UK:

Well Joe, I had all these jobs to do and so far this show has been one big distraction. No complaints.
Avatar 11:24am Joe McG:

@Michele: Ha ha! @Brian: Many thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Ike:

Was I hallucinating from being sick, or was that some kind of African Grateful Dead? (Oh wait, I just googled it -- that's Nigerians trying to do country music! Fascinating!)
Avatar 11:30am Joe McG:

@Ike: Comb & Razor does it again with a fantastic compilation of hidden African gems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Brian in UK:

Was this a Zappa offshoot?
Avatar 11:38am Joe McG:

@Brian: Sort of. Jimmy Carl Black formed the band after he left the Mothers of Invention. They more often sound Beefhearty. This is the gentle track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Rich in Washington:

I'd always been curious about Geronimo Black. Thanks for playing it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Bronwyn Bishop:

all the djs should change our names and keep them that way for like a week. i want a new name. i guess me and bronwyn would have to have the same fake name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Ken From Hyde Park:

I hope Jonathan gets a raise and/or a promotion for his efforts today. Got to retain the talent, I am told.
