Wow, I have not heard this SPZ track in like forever.
Avatar 9:37am Joe McG:

@SheilaB: I'm getting hungry! (Great show Friday!) Hi, Melinda and Michele and Polyus! Doesn't "Electric Mainline" sound very reminiscent of "Brown Rice" or is that just me?
  9:39am JakeGould:

Hey Joe!
Avatar 9:40am Joe McG:

@Jake: Hey Jake, hope you kept those thirsty customers in line at the Derv Gordon show!

Enjoying the show, Joe. Heard strains of a song I recognized but couldn't place in this Spiritualized piece, but googled the title and ... Laurie Anderson. Like both now!

Thanks for tuning in, Chris J. Yes, Laurie Anderson cover!

Liking this Woods track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Uncle Michael:

Therese played Woods last night and I loved it then and love it now.
Avatar 10:21am Joe McG:

Thanks, annie! I like the idea of a pet-sit. Don't sit on it too long! @DJSB: I wish I had some Bedouine to play in this set! :)
  10:22am Michele:

Avatar 10:23am Joe McG:

@Michele: I think I'll see you this week! Working a rare Wednesday! :)

Greatest bumper music ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am TristaC:

it's a rainy day here in Medford, Mass too, Joe. My day off! Great set to write to. Cheers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am annie:

i sit on pets regularly, they squirm a lot, but they get used to it. this gang is two middle-aged cats and 2 yappy shi-tzu. i'll never get used to the p-pads people use for their little dogs.
  10:37am miles:

Osbourne Brothers! innovators. great
Avatar 10:37am Joe McG:

Welcome, Tom! Enjoy your day off, TristaC! @annie: I'd be afraid to sit on such small dogs, but I know you're a pro.
  10:38am miles:

they quietly (&not so quietlly) invented electric bluegrass
Avatar 10:40am Joe McG:

@miles: I love those guys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am annie:

you just have to know where the cushions in the couch are; push 'em down into the crevice. and put treats down there, they stay still for an hour or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Ike:

Man, that guy really likes water, huh? What's up with that?
  10:46am miles:

I didn't even know mankey did his own music. I thought he was a producer. again..great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am pantz:

I would never have expected a ZZ Top single on this station. That's why I love your show, Joe!
  10:48am Martin:

ZZ Top is turning my whole day around!! Love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am annie:

The Quick
  11:10am JakeGould:

Mameloshen means “mother tongue/language” in Yiddish.

Just saying!
Avatar 11:11am Joe McG:

Wow, thanks, JakeG!
  11:16am Bobby:

Surface Noise sounds even better than usual on rainy days. I am with you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am pantz:

From The Bump to this, Joe? Stop playing with my emotions.
Avatar 11:18am Joe McG:

Nice to have you along, Bobby! @pantz: Ha ha ha!
  11:18am JakeGould:

But it’s also a weird word that is barely used. But somehow is now being used to describe Yiddish in some way. Who knows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am coelacanth∅:

greetings Joe and others
- i just missed the Jake Holmes song, but i guess i can assume it's just another one he ripped from led zeppelin!
Avatar 11:22am Joe McG:

@coelacanth: That thief! Ha ha
  11:24am zopa:

Joe, is it time for our weekly dose of Nilsson?
Avatar 11:24am Joe McG:

@zopa: I brought some, so very possible!

Avatar 11:31am Whosondephone:

Never get married. That's what I learned this weekend.
  11:32am miles:

& the comments board is speechless
  11:33am miles:

I *spoke* too soon. k. no marriage it IS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am pantz:

Thanks for the advice @Whosonthephone. Take my wife, please.
  11:34am miles:

adult pop. I get it
  11:34am Dennis Diken:

sure do love this Scott W cut to pieces, one of my faves!
  11:35am JakeGould:

This weekend I learned of you ever feel like crawling into a hole and dying, just crawl in that hole and take a nap. Then get out of the house and eat something nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am coelacanth∅:

just listened to my favorite Scott Walker album yesterday. "soused"...pure genius.
  11:36am Dennis Diken:

hey Joe, do you know Sinatra's LP She Shot Me Down? one of his best, methinks
Avatar 11:37am Joe McG:

Hey Dennis! Yes, I think "She Shot Me Down" is definitely his late career peak!
Avatar 11:37am Jeff:

This is so Scott Walker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am pantz:

This weekend I learned that dogs don't instinctively know how to swim. Dog paddle my a$$
  11:38am miles:

that has @Dennis bang bang right? luv this Newman track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am coelacanth∅:

yeah dogs just instinctively don't want to drown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am coelacanth∅:

RumpelNilsson RumpelNilsson RumpelNilsson
Avatar 11:41am Jeff:

I never knew Alfred E. Newman was a songwriter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Brian in UK:

Joe, played American Gothic the other day. Probably because I saw the picture by Grant Wood for the first time over here recently. Man, I love that song.
  11:41am miles:

never thought to play the two versions back to back! good call
Avatar 11:41am Joe McG:

@Jeff: His uncle!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Brian in UK:

@Jeff That's MAD.
  11:43am miles:

Crazy Sick & Cracked
Avatar 11:46am Joe McG:

@Brian: All of his records are swell. Such a songwriter. I wonder why he stopped after "Five & Dime"?
  11:48am Dean:

Picked up Art Garfunkel's Watermark yesterday for two bucks. Most of the tracks are Webb's. It's a beauty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Brian in UK:

Joe, unless he self-released there were no takers. Today that would be an option. Jac Holzman gave him a fair shot. Being a critics' favourite does not feed the family.
Avatar 11:50am Joe McG:

@Brian: Such a shame! @Dean: Never heard it. Will!
  11:50am franny:

This set of songs....I'm actually going through a break up. Ouch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am doctorjazz:

@Dean, sounds like the sale was a success!
Avatar 11:51am Joe McG:

@franny: Sorry for the hurt! Sometimes these songs help, make you feel less alone. That's how it's worked for me.
  11:51am franny:

but I should say....appropriate.
Avatar 11:52am Jeff:

@Dean: the version with "(What a) Wonderful World" or "Fingerpaint"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Brian in UK:

Any track from the mid Fifties Sinatra albums would cover this hurt.
Great set, Joe.
  11:54am Blix:

A very pleasant show this morning. This is some procession of crooners in this set.
  11:55am Dean:

@doctorjazz: It was! Not huge, maybe a dozen vendors, but prices were l-o-w, and I brought home stacks of LPs and CDs. (Only one turned out to dupe my collection.) Purchased my first Jethro Tull record, "Thick As a Brick," with the elaborate newspaper cover. (Never liked Tull. This went on for decades until last year, when I decided I do like Tull.)

@Jeff: "(What a) Wonderful World." Didn't realize there was another version! But (WA)WW does feel out of place.
Avatar 11:55am Joe McG:

Thanks for tuning in and commenting today, folks! I know it was a rainy one. :)
Avatar 11:55am Jeff:

Interesting little piece about Watermark...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am pantz:

Fare thee well, Joe. Thanks for tugging my heart strings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Joe
Avatar 11:57am Jeff:

Yes, thanks Joe.
  11:57am Dean:

That Rolling Stone bit is fascinating. One of the virtures of (WA)WW, I have to say, is the background vocal work of Simon and Taylor. And I'm no Simon fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Bronwyn Bishop:

i missed the scott walker, but thanks for playing it
  11:59am zopa:

thanks joe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm coelacanth∅:

you were talking to me just then... i'll check out watertown!

Great show! Loved hearing Jake Holmes and Nilsson!
