Do we get Stereolab's "Jenny Ondioline"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Irwin:

There is no Ondioline in "Jenny Ondioline." It's just a title.

Beans, of course!

What are you listening on? Radio? Web?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Webhamster Henry:

My Old Dutch AND 'Enery the 8th are on an old Stanley Holloway record I grew up with , 'Ere's 'Olloway. Yes, Hermans' Hermits' rendition of 'Enery was chanted at me for a few years. There were fewer Henries back then.
  3:42pm Hoboken Jack:

The app.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Irwin:

That sucky app. Better than nuffin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Lizardner Dave:

The first time I heard Schmilco I picked this song to be "Most likely to get WFMU airplay".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Irwin:

Lizard: It's a strange little number. The whole album's kinda strange, and I don't like much of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Confound it! Now I've got the Old Dutch potato chips jingle for an earworm. youtu.be...
  4:21pm jan:

Hard to believe that Janice Ian and the Cowsills would be on the same program back then. Bought the Janice Ian album then, thought the Cowsills to be laughable then.
  4:21pm miles:

like wow, I'm half gassed on this whole scene man.

F'n woof!

  4:42pm Lyle:

Richie Havens. Wow. There's a story. Last time I saw Richie I was playing trombone for John Gary on his Goodbye Yellow Bird Tour (circa '79) at the Showboat Dinner Theater in Largo, Florida. I was pulling on my pants (banana yellow polyester flairs, as I recall) when Richie walked in the dressing room. I said hello, but he didn't respond. He had a faraway look in his eye. Suddenly, he pulls his guitar from its case and he says, "Play along with me. Norwegian Wood in A." Quietly we ran through the famous Beatles number a couple of times, then Richie said thanks and he was gone. During the second show, Mr. Gary introduced a special guest ... Richie Havens. Applause was weak as Richie took the stage. The crowd was mostly older folks and retirees. Not the type of people who would have been familiar with Richie's performance at Woodstock and his rousing version of "Freedom." Someone threw a napkin at him and Richie just laughed. Another person launched a fistful of plastic forks at Richie from the balcony and, again, Richie just chuckled. Then Richie sang Norwegian Wood and the mood in the room shifted dramatically. People were smiling, some were crying, some held menus towards Richie from the stage apron, hoping for an autograph. Mr. Gary was backstage at this point, finishing his chicken sandwich. I walked back there told him how wonderful Richie had been and how the crowd loved him. Mr. Gary just shrugged. "C'mon, he said, "let's do Yellow Bird and get out of here."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm AnAnonymousParty:

This is like an old Steve Garvey celebrity Bill-fishing tournament TV show, only with and about music. I just know they are going to throw it to Artie Johnson for comic relief that'll fall flat. Where's the 'psychedelic' commercial break bumper?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Irwin:

Lyle, are you planning on publishing your memoirs? Your recollection of details - esp. conversations - is astounding.
  4:45pm miles:

love is closer than it seems
  4:48pm miles:

don't cop out, man!
  4:52pm Lyle:

I may do that one day, Irwin. Still miles to go. Hoping to jam with Phil Bodner, Jr. tomorrow night at the Midland Brew House if he shows. There's talk of his getting Trombones Unlimited back together!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I wanna hear the Mothers do 'The Rain The Park & Other Things' - but it's gotta be w/ Flo&Eddie...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Irwin:

Lyle, as Andy Breckman would say, you're Living the Dream.
  4:56pm miles:

did Tom Wilson produce this? sounds like it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Irwin:

Wilson didn't produce Tim Hardin.
  4:58pm miles:

Mr. Ondioline, to you... www.pampig.org...

The Ondioline Orchestra also features Loser's Lounger Joe McGinty, as if you didn't have incentive enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oboes...banjos...muted trumpets...celestes...harpsichords...played by - ducks!
...Did Brian Wilson know about these?...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Gaylord Fields:

Wow! I never suspected that may be an Ondioline on "Suspicion" — but now I can't un-hear it. Thanks, Wally & Irwin, for the education!
  5:29pm Keith from Oregon:

Good question, RRN63!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Alison Porchnik:

Hey if Jack's still listening, hi there Jack! And hi there Irwin. And hi there, Wally. I have nothing witty to say, but then again, isn't "hello" enough?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Irwin:

Gaylord: I dare someone to prove it's NOT an Ondioline on Suspicion.
  5:31pm Listening Out There:

Enjoying the ondioline segment. The instrument had to be used on a variety of 60's commercials, right?
  5:32pm jan:

Yahhh- "More" one of my favorites around age 12yrs! Always loved "instrumentals!"
  5:34pm Laura L:

Extra busy day here... but what I'll say what AP said too--HELLO! Nuf said!
  5:34pm mr.mikestandsir:

"More" makes me now want to ask: "Telstar"?? Maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Alison Porchnik:

Whoa - Trenet and Ondioline? It's very hard to contain my excitement. I guess you can't tell though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Carmichael:

@RevRab, yes he did. I just finished his new autobiography, and he listed every instrument he used on Good Vibrations, Heroes and Villains, God Only Knows and Wouldn't It Be Nice. He used harpsichords, foot-pump organs, and a clavioline on all of the above, along with DOZENS of traditional instruments, often doubled up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm PGB:

Listening via the Web. No distortion or noise here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Webhamster Henry:

"More" is a lot better than Mondo Cane.
  5:38pm Tony Iommi:

More Distortion!!! Please!!
Avatar 5:39pm coelacanth:

i guess i have to go back and hear the whole interview, but it seems to me that an instrument that was just a variation on the ondes martenet is actually less versatile than the original. maybe i need more examples but it makes me wonder why the less interesting ondioline was created.
...easier to play maybe?
  5:40pm Kleigh:

This show made me think of Valjean's version of Bonanza and of Friedrich Trautwein's Trautonium, which I heard on an Oscar Sala - Balanchine Opera record called Electronic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trautonium
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Alison Porchnik:

Odd idea, that you'd need a visa to go to outer space. What consulate would you go to?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Carmichael:

@coel, straight from Wikipedia: "However, the Ondioline's sounds possibilities were much more varied, compared to the Ondes Martenot, which could only produce a few variations of sounds. This was due to the Ondioline's filter bank, which featured an array of 15 slider switches for various tones. Selected combinations of these switches could create sounds ranging from near-accurate recreations of symphonic instruments (oboe, French horn, etc.) to totally unique sounds of its own."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Carmichael:

Whatever consulate that would be, it would be in San Francisco.
Avatar 5:45pm dale:

who did the green acres music, vic mizzy? a lot of that sound in there.
Avatar 5:46pm Whosondephone:

I swear that was an actual reed instrument.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Alison Porchnik:

Why SF?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Gaylord Fields:

@Alison Porchnik: For Mars, visas are issued by ? and the Mysterians; for Saturn, apply with Sun Ra's Arkestra.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Carmichael:

Because they're weird out here ...

From Tijuana Mexico. listening to very nice music. When will Gotye be back to Los Angeles.
  5:47pm Godfrey "Daniels" Chambers:

You are right about LaRosa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Alison Porchnik:

Where would I go to get to Uranus?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Michael 98145:

Why SF? because on the left coast most consulates seem to be located there ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Gaylord Fields:

@Alison Porchnik: Buy me a drink first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Alison Porchnik:

But I'm on the right coast.
Avatar 5:48pm coelacanth:

hmm, i could've looked that up, huh...
-Thanks Carmichael!
i didn't know that part of it. that almost gives it a mellotron-ness doesn't it. all i knew is that the theramin-like sounds were no longer possible. (or at least to the same degree).
  5:49pm Listening Out There:

Alison...this is a family show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Alison Porchnik:

@ Gaylord !

I'll keep that in mind FFR, Gaylord.

Wow, hearing Cowsills Bill, Bob, Barry and John back in the day . . . . Hearing Tom Wilson, who remixed Sound of Silence and recorded Rolling Stone same day, ya better understand why, despite inspired genius, he was fired
8:17am Milk is what the Cowsills drink:

@Carmichael Thanks for your youtube tip in Music Factory episode 4, Bob Cowsill at Vicki Abelson's house. Other vids to watch are her guests Micky Dolenz and Howard Kaylan
