Good evening, Professor Ryker

Alternate tunings always sound sour to me. This one sounds like Thai papaya salad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm Dave in Vermont:

well hello
Avatar 8:08pm Bethany Ryker:

Ranjit - I always think of it as "chewy" interesting both have to do with food!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I like how stochastic it sounds.
  8:16pm Listener Carl:

Checking in to give thanks for the Analog-message shoutouts last week! Now, instead of saying "Please, I have friends who have been quoted in The New York Times" I get to go "I've been quoted on A440/WFMU!!" Viva Stochastic Appositionalism!!!
Avatar 8:18pm Bethany Ryker:

Thanks, Listener Carl! An analog text message is on its way to you!!
  8:19pm egould310:

Interesting sounds. Will keep listening as I prepare dinner. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Gosh, Tchaikovsky died at age 53. Younger than I am now.
  8:36pm Chuck:

I only know this song because of the movie Lady Vengeance..

Not that there's anything wrong with A440, but are we going to get any Stochastic Hit Parade? If not, why is it listed as both on the schedule? Just curious. Great to have you back on the air in either case.
  8:40pm egould310:

I played trumpet (poorly) in junior high school. Switched to tuba in high school, and played pretty well. Now, I just shred a Gibson Les Paul. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Played cornet fifth grade through senior high. I might try my hand at the recorder that my daughter outgrew (mostly to impress PLU Vicki).

What instrument did you play Bethany?
Avatar 8:50pm ranjit:

ah, this is what all the paganininini was reminding me of: www.youtube.com...
  8:53pm Rynac:

Great set of Paganini variations!
Avatar 8:55pm Bethany Ryker:

egould310, it's the French Horn!
Avatar 8:56pm Bethany Ryker:

...but...at some point, I really want to learn piano. Or cello. Both.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Our HS band was invited to march in homecoming parades for a couple of nearby colleges. I remember it being really cold and trying to march and play was a struggle, especially as a freshman. It became easier by senior year.
  8:57pm egould310:

Much love to those french horns. Brass section, yeah!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The French horn has such a tiny mouthpiece, right? A challenge to play, I'm sure.
Avatar 8:59pm Jack Scheff:

Thanks for another great show Bethany! Excellent dinner cooking music...
  9:00pm egould310:

Thanks for the tunes! Will try to listen more often.
