Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Nice way to wind down the warmest day until next spring, eh? Unless the January thaw goes nuts.
Avatar 8:08pm ranjit:

There's a dog on instagram who follows my dog on instagram and whose name is Gustavo Dudamel.

The 21st century is weird!
Avatar 8:11pm Bethany Ryker:

Welcome all!
  8:13pm Rynac:

The Bartok was a more than a trifle.
Avatar 8:14pm Linda Lee:

i could make a really silly sophomoric comment here about a dog named Dudamel.
Avatar 8:18pm Bethany Ryker:

Ok, Linda - go ahead!!!
Avatar 8:19pm Jeff:

How de-stressing this all is.
  8:20pm listening out there:

Listening again...
Avatar 8:20pm Linda Lee:

something something dog Du .. damel.
Avatar 8:21pm Bethany Ryker:

Glad to hear that, Jeff. This piece definitely had that effect on me. Must have listened to it seven thousand times this week on the MTA for that very purpose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm redkayak:

Evening all :)
Avatar 8:22pm Jeff:

It just feels really... open.
Avatar 8:23pm ranjit:

The name Gustavo Dudamel always reminds me of that line from Wayne's World: "If she were a president she'd be Baberaham Lincoln!"
Avatar 8:23pm Bethany Ryker:

Clever, Linda! Ranjit: see if your pup likes that joke ;)
Avatar 8:24pm ranjit:

Peter is a very serious dog and does not appreciate jokes.
Avatar 8:26pm Linda Lee:

Baberaham Lincoln line = sillliest line in the whole film. & that says a lot.
Avatar 8:26pm Bethany Ryker:

Just changed my avatar to SKITTLES. My pup when I was young. YES, that is a real dog. My brother(digitally) customized the Trivial Pursuit box.
Avatar 8:28pm Linda Lee:

love that photo .. .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm redkayak:

That reminded me of music I once heard in a Hitchcock movie.... North by Northwest?
Avatar 8:28pm ranjit:

I love Skittles!

(the dog, not the candy)

(the candy is ok too)

Stochastic Muzak....Oceans of Beautiful, Soothing Muzak...
Avatar 8:37pm Linda Lee:

A440 is by far the best classical music program on my radio.
i must find a way to pledge!!
  8:37pm listening out there:

[Fortunately not!]
  8:38pm JakeGould:

Yeah, what Jeff said… Relaxing indeed!
Avatar 8:39pm Linda Lee:

what a relief!! this month is maddening so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Ken From Hyde Park:

In a Simpsons episode, Homer asks Apu if he has any Skittlebräu, the beer with candy floating in it.
Avatar 8:39pm Bethany Ryker:

...and if cacophony is soothing to y'all, just wait that's next in the program :)
  8:40pm JakeGould:

@Bethany: I hope it relaxes the shit out of me.
Avatar 8:41pm Bethany Ryker:

Careful, Jake....it *can* have that effect.
  8:43pm JakeGould:

I regretted posting that a microsecond I did so. :/
Avatar 8:44pm Bethany Ryker:

No such thing as regrets on this forum.
Avatar 8:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I wonder if Ligeti liked being made famous by '2001'...or if he felt like Stravinsky did about 'Fantasia'...
Avatar 8:47pm Bethany Ryker:

Interesting question. Anyone know?
Avatar 8:47pm Linda Lee:

high quality cacophony is actually soothing ~ but 'easy listening' is aggravating!
  8:48pm Jeff:

So this guy works as a music editor, and his specialty is music from 1600 to 1750. Sometimes works from earlier or later would come to his desk by mistake, and he couldn't resist fiddling with them. Finally his boss calls him on the carpet and tells him....
  8:49pm Jeff:

If it ain't Baroque don't fix it!
Avatar 8:52pm Linda Lee:

" .. & watch out for that dog Dudamel!"
Avatar 8:53pm ranjit:

"Don't step in the Poulenc!"
Avatar 8:54pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 8:55pm Bethany Ryker:

Poo jokes and Alban Berg...only on WFMU. Love it.
  8:58pm A444 Nagahara:

I love this show. I play classical music and I love the stuff you pick. And by the way is there an The Erl-King - Poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Music by Schubert in the Halloween future? or Bald Mountain or Danse Macabre? My Halloween Nightmare is spelled Clarinet reed (you had to be there)
  10:35pm bunyan:

The quick look I did so far showed that Ligeti was not all that happy with his pieces being used without his permission (Kubrick ditched the original Alex North soundtrack in favor of classical music, without informing North - Kubrick being Kubrick?), but what apparently annoyed him more was having his work featured in a soundtrack that also included Johann Strauss, Jr. and Richard Strauss (which now begs another question...).
