Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm chris:

  12:18pm Martha:

Yeah - this is an awesome record (only two tracks) and I hate cutting things short...
Avatar 12:19pm Cecile:

I think that's great. I mean, where else is that one track from the ggggggackackackackwhatever a big DJ hit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Michael 98145:

that's why we're here
  12:25pm Tim in VT:

  12:26pm Martha:

Cool - love the support -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Martha. Thanks for scaling the snowy peaks of Garbage Mountain to be here today. I hope you've been having a good summer. Back to school sales are already in progress.
Avatar 12:29pm Cecile:

ha! Glitter Wizard call themselves "pink metal"! I like!
  12:30pm Martha:

Really??? - didn't know that -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Ken From Hyde Park:

For sure it's not a misprint of "punk metal"?
Avatar 12:34pm Cecile:

Nope, it doesn't appear to be.

you could play like three songs from this and I'd be happy.
  12:38pm Martha:

I know - awesome - wish I could play the whole record - not as good as their last one but then what could be???
Avatar 12:38pm Cecile:

I dunno, I think they complement each other really well. I don't see a quality decline.

Avatar 12:46pm Cheri Pi:

  12:49pm Martha:

Hell all - no this is a 70s German track - I hope Longhair (which is what I would like to play) before the show ends....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hullo Martha !
...Coming soon to a schedule near us, by any chance?...
Avatar 12:51pm Cheri Pi:

I dig this
  12:54pm Martha:

Glad you like this and thanks to everyone for the good words. Regarding the schedule...that isn't up to me. I do apply (tho' this summer I didn't b/c I was away so much) and then I see what happens...one never knows! but my time is a bit limited w/rt my job -
Avatar 12:56pm Cecile:

this song is still really too true after all these years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I remember this song so well. It came out when I was in Oz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Ken From Hyde Park:

DJs Bosh and Sasha are stepping away and I hear Cheyenne is moving to the west coast. There are some immediate openings.

Avatar 1:10pm agentearplugs:

mmmmm sumac
  1:11pm Martha:

I somehow got obsessed w/ that song this week so felt the urge to play it - ad it does ring true, unfortunately...
  1:11pm Martha:

Yes - Sumac!!!
Avatar 1:13pm KP:

Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

I finally got a chance to look at the track list of that Sharpies comp, and 75% of it was stuff I saw on Countdown every Sunday when I was in Oz in 1976!
  1:14pm Martha:

Hey KP - how are you doing?
Avatar 1:17pm Cheri Pi:

this kicks so much butt
Avatar 1:18pm ChicosFleaMarket:

Avatar 1:20pm fred:

Sumac to TJ Swan is some gutsy segue, and it works for me. How freeform is that?
Avatar 1:21pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:21pm PKNY:

Actually, this isn't TJ Swan, it's the Treacherous Three w/ Spoonie Gee "The New Rap Language".
  1:26pm Martha:

Thanks for the info - I'll fix it 0 just going by what is on the CD - which I know in a few other instances is wrong -
Avatar 1:30pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Hola Martha from Sandy Eggo! Glad to hear you! How are the Red Shoes doing?

I am happy to see the Cacti are Blossoming up here, Martha

I love this version of “Teenage Kicks!”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Michael 98145:

  1:44pm Polyus:

A few weeks ago I saw that Spray Paint was playing in my town, so I said "hey, cool, I've heard them on WFMU" and headed to the bar. Turns out it was some crappy local band who were just kind of attempting kraut jams. Joke was on me.
Avatar 1:44pm fred:

@JakeGould: me too!
Avatar 1:45pm Cecile:

I never thought of the Orchids as psych
  1:45pm rw:

Me too!!
  1:46pm rw:

Martha, nice to hear you on the radio this am!
  1:49pm Martha:

Yeah - not really clear about that Brit psych record - it has Kimberly Rew on it, etc. - a bit odd -

Avatar 2:04pm fred:

@Ken: great news!
Avatar 2:05pm Chris from DC:

Gets a clicky start just for the title.
Avatar 2:06pm fred:

I was just reading an interview with Zebarges, they sounded like nicely demented guys with tongue firmly planted in cheek
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & that truly is a Freefrom alert. Jason presents an aesthetic like no one else.
  2:08pm Martha:

Yeah - I like that Zebarges record but there def seems to be some Tongues firmly planted in cheeks...

  2:23pm r in VA:

Yay Martha!
Avatar 2:25pm fred:

@Martha: I think it's a bit like Circle: they embrace the ridiculous side of what they truly love. In the interview they said they hadn't time to waste referencing or parodying bands they didn't care deeply about
Avatar 2:25pm Chris M.:

Good times never seemed so good
  2:26pm Martha:

Hi all - you are going to have indulge me for this last track -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm common:

indulging is that a word?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Michael 98145:

no complaint from downstream
Avatar 2:31pm fred:

I'll indulge in what you're indulging in. It's your show, and it doesn't happen often enough these days
Avatar 2:32pm ChicosFleaMarket:

haven't listened to Monster Magnet in years. having flashbacks
  2:32pm Martha:

Thanks all - I was going to play Longhair (actually, this whole EP is obtuse w/rt track names) but then went w/ this -
  2:34pm Martha:

This was actually recorded before "Spine of God" but released afterwards - last recording they did w/ John McBain and in my opinion that was pretty much their end...
Avatar 2:35pm fred:

Well, now you just have to come back soon and play that Longhair
  2:35pm Martha:

I am actually old enough (ack!) to remember Shrapnel appearing on the Uncle Floyd show (though I remember physical fights w/ my sister over what we were going to watch better).
Avatar 2:37pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Lots of star-clicking today Martha! (Monster Magnet being one them)
  2:41pm Martha:

Hey there Jenn - don't know how the shoes are doing - been in Singapore/VN for almost 4 weeks and then jet lag kept me sleeping - but I should know tomorrow - also, are you keeping up on the developments w/in the paleoanthro section?
Avatar 2:45pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Wow, I am jealous of your travels! I know they are work related, but still, I would love to revisit that part of the world. And yes, sadly, I do know about Jack Conrad. If you are referring to what happened with Brian Richmond, yes, sadly I know about that too. Are you going to be working with AMNH in the foreseeable future? Give a big hello to everyone in Red Shoes! Miss you guys! I haven't been able to find a pub quiz out here yet.
  2:46pm Martha:

For those of you who might be interested - among other things John McBain went on to found Wellwater Conspiracy.
  2:47pm Martha:

Hey Jenn - I'll shoot you an e-mail soon - and thanks for checking in! Also, apologies to everyone else on this board w/rt the inside baseball appearing here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Michael 98145:

I am highly envious of DJ Sheila's August traveling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 2:49pm Chris from DC:

Yeah, Wellwater Conspiracy were great. Actually got to see them.
  2:49pm Martha:

@KP" Yes, the Cacti are doing very well here - great release and people seem to really like them -

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm sphere:

Avatar 2:51pm fred:

@Martha: if that Brian Richmond is the one I heard about, you're not the one who has to apologize
  2:52pm Martha:

@ PKNY" fixed the reference there - thanks again! The liner notes are also super obscure - I guess w/ the punk stuff I knew it better but I don't know that much about early rap (th', as I said, I remember being mesmerized by it at the age of ?12?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...they had this one 'shorting out' sound that I've only heard TheWho use on 'The Ox' on their 1st album - & the rest is more what I think of as a more metrical Comets On Fire?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& now MC5 'Starship'...good things to evoke...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm sphere:

this is a treasured part of my collection. im afraid to hear any more Monster Magnet because 25...TAB is so cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for the fill-in today, Martha. See you next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...don't listen now...or maybe ever...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm sphere:

  2:57pm Martha:

@fred Nah - just not really an open comment board type of conversation - but yeah, it's the person I'm sure - plus look into the fall-out at Science regarding the reporting of it -
  2:57pm Martha:

Thanks all for your good words - see you later -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Don't be a stranger !
Avatar 2:58pm Cecile:

I am reading the story now. I am glad Science and the women who came forth are doing that.
Avatar 3:01pm fred:

@Martha: I work in a research lab (as a lowly technician) and I'm a feminist, so I'm very aware of this serious problem.
Thanks for a great show, please be back soon
Avatar 9:44pm SiHV:

Wow, I totally missed this. At the start, looking forward to ending with Tab......
