Hi, Martha. Happy summer!
Avatar 12:06pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

MARTHA!!! How are you lady? It's Jenn from Pub Quiz dayz, now out in sunny San Diego, listening to you in the A.M. out here. Hope you're well.
Avatar 12:06pm Sem Chumbo:

Good afternoon, Martha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Tome:

Martha.. always a nice surprise ! like the start and where it's going always ..
  12:09pm Martha:

Hi All! - thanks for checking in w/ the kind words - I owe you a letter Jenn - hope all is well -
Avatar 12:10pm Cecile:

that sun kil moon song is a lousy song, but it got me to listen to Onward, which is now the only Yes song I like. So thanks for that.
Avatar 12:10pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 12:11pm KP:

Martha, hi ya!
Avatar 12:14pm Cheri Pi:

I was treated to a terrible (to me they all are) Yes song in the car on my way home, I couldn't turn it off for a minute and it got stuck in my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Planet Tyler:

Black Whispers has got some major Burzum - Filosofem riffs going on in it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm cthulhu:

CTHULHU likes this....you may all go on living.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Planet Tyler:

Or I should say it was Life Neglected that took the riffs first?
Avatar 12:16pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Just say no to Yes.
  12:16pm Martha:

Well, that SKM track is pretty much the only thing FCC-approved on the record - but glad it led you to Yes, a band I can honestly say I haven't really listened to -
Avatar 12:18pm Cecile:

I try to avoid them at all costs. But that's a pretty song.
Avatar 12:18pm Cecile:

I just want the ghost of Jerry Reed to come back and cover all the Sun Kil Moon songs in his best "eastbound and down" style.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm MD:

Aloe Aloe!!!
  12:23pm Martha:

Cecile - Good point! - and Hola everyone else -
Avatar 12:23pm Chud:

Slaying it, Martha! Always nice to catch you on the air
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm blee:

  12:28pm Martha:

Thanks all - sorry I blew the French metal cover of Detroit Rock City...
Avatar 12:28pm Cheri Pi:

So when I finally turned the chanel to the alternative station, they followed a Burning Down thaHouse with a band that had to be from Maritania, I chuckled to myself that woof-moo has inspired so many, but cannot be copied.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm sphere:

hello Martha and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm mariano:

Martha, so good to hear you again -- as I'm sure you've been able to gather, lots of people miss your show!
  12:35pm Clay:

Nice Jeremy Spencer - ex-Fleetwood Mac
  12:37pm bill:

good to have you back Martha, however briefly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm sinister dexter:

great to hear you again Martha! hi everyone from grand rapids michigan!
Avatar 12:38pm Cecile:

play it again.
  12:43pm Martha:

Thanks all! - good to hear from you too -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm sphere:

this Cactus Blossoms tune is gorgeous!
Avatar 12:46pm KP:

The second time i saw Fleetwood Mac, Spencer bailed mid-tour so the replaced him with Peter Green.
Avatar 12:47pm fred:

Welcome back Martha! I think I'll stay at work a little longer then
  12:47pm Martha:

Ah - interesting history - I love those stories - and this whole Cactus Blossoms album is great -
Avatar 12:48pm Cecile:

the first NME I bought featured this album.
Avatar 12:49pm Cecile:

I kind of still love Heaven 17.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Here is "Wichita Lineman," but it's not Glen Campbell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm mariano:

@Cecile: Heaven 17 -- gotta love a band name that's a reference to Clockwork Orange. Was gonna say it's a shame there's never been a Johnny Zhivago, but I just Googled and learned that there was a UK punk band with that name.
Avatar 1:03pm Cecile:

there was also a US band called the Droogs.
Avatar 1:03pm Cheri Pi:

Same, re luving Heaven 17
Avatar 1:04pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

This Gnod song reminds me of cicadas for some reason. Martha, there's a metal/punk band from San Diego called Death Eyes that I think you'd like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm sphere:

these days, it feels like all aggressive rock musics are merging together into noisemetalpunkblackdoom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm mariano:

@Cecile: Great band name, didn't know that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Michael 98145:

a Dong by anyother name
  1:11pm Martha:

Hey - thanks for the tip - and sorry you heard an unintended mix there for a while...
  1:12pm Martha:

The Droogs - I love the Droogs! - I was completely fascinated w/ them for about a month ages ago -
  1:13pm ?:

welcome to Wal-Mart

what a fantastic story this Beekeepers song tells...loving it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm blee:

Beekeepers, Pallet Stacking sounded great. I need to listen to more of their work.

Alley Cats! (on Dangerhouse)
Avatar 1:26pm Cecile:

Dils were on Dangerhouse. And so was X.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm mariano:

@KP: Your post about Peter Green prompted me to look up his bio, didn't realize he wrote Black Magic Woman and that the Mac recorded it first. I really need to revisit their early days...
Avatar 1:28pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Dangerhouse had Screamers as well, no?
Avatar 1:28pm KP:

V/A albums always disappoint and that's all i ever buy
  1:32pm el BO-Bo:

This is awesome. I never thought it could work but if Negativland worked then of course this will also. Very entertaining. The voice in my head are letting hear the program. Thank you Jorge. Thank you Alice
Avatar 1:32pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

favorite v/a album of all time is probably 'bullshit detector 2' on crass label. .. it's so excellently gritty... played it non-stop when it came out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm mariano:

"Saturday Night Fish Fry" is a good V/A comp of New Orleans music. Any album with Lee Dorsey's "Give It Up" though has already won half the battle in my book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Stepchild:

I'd clicky this Horse Lords so(!) many times, but my idiosyncratic(?) approach to clicky stars demands I not do it at all
Avatar 1:36pm Cecile:

you can always unclick them, that's the beauty of that.
Avatar 1:38pm Cheri Pi:

agree @Saturday Night Fish Fry, alas now I just have an empty case because I took that cd everywhere with me. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Stepchild:

i do, because it's a 'note to self' thing. Anything i own doesn't get clicked. I use the list to supplement my sad old braincells
  1:38pm Martha:

Speaking of Peter Green - you should check out the Judas Priest cover of "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm chris:

hi, Martha and everyone... happy to be here/hear!
Avatar 1:39pm KP:

I will, Martha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm KRYPT:

What an excellent show, really enjoying it, thanx.
  1:44pm Martha:

Glad you all enjoyed the trip through the past! - yes, many bands on Dangerhouse, I can't remember them all - there was another less important record label then, which I can't remember the name of now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm mariano:

SST's "Blasting Concept" compilations have some good stuff too. Then again, they also have some pretty bad stuff. Husker Du's "Erase Today" on Vol 2 is one of my favorite songs of theirs. @Cheri Pi: SNFF is up on YouTube, though I guess it doesn't help if you're somewhere with no web access. @Martha: see, that's a big reason I love these boards so much -- I get educated every time. I know the Priest song, had no idea it was a Fleetwood Mac song originally. Wow. Next you're gonna tell me "Tainted Love" wasn't written by Soft Cell! [ducks]
  1:44pm Martha:

And thanks for all the good words!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm sphere:

you're welcome Martha - this Werewheels is also awesome. :)
Avatar 1:45pm kwhitehead:

Holy shit, still reeling from the Horse Lords song. Hopping onto Discogs after this show...
many thanks.
Avatar 1:45pm Cecile:

I like Let Them Eat Jellybeans, and Fast Product, and the first Yo! MTV Raps comp was pretty great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Michael 98145:

@Martha, there was also Slash Records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm cthulhu:

Let them eat Jellybeans really takes CTHULHU back into the day.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm cthulhu:

The WAR & PEACE comp was also killer...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm sphere:

Didn't know you had good distro in R'lyeh then, Dread Lord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Michael 98145:

the interwebs reach everywhere
Avatar 1:51pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

HA, wow, the War & Peace comp... the only other place I've seen Boskops, besides the one LP that made it to these shores...
Avatar 1:53pm Cheri Pi:

gotta get this Brown Acid thingy
Avatar 1:54pm Cecile:

Oh, Downer Rock Genocide is an amazing compilation, too.
Avatar 1:55pm Cheri Pi:

Ditto for Downer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm chris:

and a big \m/ for this sludgy Attalla cut
Avatar 1:59pm Cecile:

those DJ-Kicks album are pretty amazing, too. they have tons of tracks and one big long seamless mix at the end.
Avatar 1:59pm KP:

The Brown Acid is ... good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm chris:

poor mary
Avatar 2:00pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 2:00pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Reeeeeally wish I could play this out loud at my job right now.
Avatar 2:00pm Cecile:

this can't be serious. This is hilarious form the title to the record label.
Avatar 2:01pm Cecile:

for some reason, also I hear a banjo and a folksy voice talking about the devil goat vomit harvest in one of those educational films.
Avatar 2:01pm Cheri Pi:

this rips
  2:02pm Martha:

I tried to pick a song w/ a less gratuitous title but this is what I liked...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Stepchild:

serious as a shart attack
Avatar 2:04pm Cheri Pi:

between the Devil Goat Vomit Harvest and the Shark-Infested Custard I'm wondering what the cat's going to cough up next?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Michael 98145:

hopefully not a cigarette
Avatar 2:05pm Cecile:

I was watching a vet show where they took a 10 lb hairball out of the stomach of a pet lynx.
Avatar 2:06pm Cheri Pi:

that poor thing, they should rub some olive oil on his paws daily to keep things moving out on the reg. and not on the rug.
Avatar 2:07pm Cecile:

unfortunately, it was not a rescued lynx, but a pet for bored people with expensive clothes and terrible spray tans. But it was something to see it flat on its face with its little tongue sticking out under anesthesia.
Avatar 2:07pm JakeGould:

“Just like Sister Ray said…”
Avatar 2:08pm Cecile:

I thinks it needed a jungle gym and a barn full of vermin to keep its energy in check. AND WHY WOULD YOU HAVE A DAMN LYNX?
Avatar 2:08pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Isn't "a mouth's a mouth" from the movie Capote?
Avatar 2:08pm Cheri Pi:

I hope he gets rescued soon.
Avatar 2:09pm Cheri Pi:

Spray Tan needs to surrender that cat, if they love it. it needs to run, jump and kill.
Avatar 2:10pm Cecile:

me too. The dr gave the owners instructions to go to a behavioralist to get him some stimulation and exercise, and they ignored it. When they came back for the followup visit, the dr addressed the cat directly in front of them- "Tell your owners to call the behavioralist!"
Avatar 2:10pm Cecile:

Avatar 2:11pm Cheri Pi:

I have no room to judge, Big Jeffhie Bompensiero is about 13 pounds and a napaholic, but I groom him daily.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm sphere:

man i've really enjoyed this set so far. All this and the Renderers too!
Avatar 2:12pm Cecile:

he's not a lynx. He has a healthy, aloof, semi-parasitic relationship with you forged over millennia.
Avatar 2:13pm Wild Neil:

Peace all. WOW this red on dark turquois lettering is vibrating right off the page.
Avatar 2:14pm Cheri Pi:

I bought him a child's adirondack chair this weekend.
  2:14pm Martha:

Don't know about the Capote reference - never saw the movie - and I am a sucker for the Renderers
Avatar 2:15pm Cecile:

he's got you exactly where he wants you, Pi.
Avatar 2:15pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 2:17pm Wild Neil:

Horse Lords are to 2016 as Wooden Shjips were to 2011(?) in my worlds....
Avatar 2:22pm Cecile:

just gargle it
Avatar 2:23pm Cecile:

I don't care if it's serious, I'm still going to laugh at it.
Avatar 2:26pm Cecile:

the Loud Family
  2:29pm Martha:

Oh Yeah, that other LA record label was What?, also known as What? Records or What Records? - and not to be confused w/ the label of the same name which put out Tonio K., etc.
  2:29pm Martha:

Yep - that's it - thanks Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm sphere:

these folks sound very Terrascope to me.
  2:45pm Martha:

Yep - They've been around since 1990, it's essentially a one man outfit, Gary Ramon -

  2:53pm Martha:
