Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Matt from Springfield:

@Planet Tyler: Same here - I knew none of these before, but they're my faves now! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Matt from Springfield:

Pavement was slightly before my time, but that sounded great! Sounds a bit like 80s L.A. Paisley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm fred:

I wish I had met Betty Davis, she'd have kicked me into wisdom. But I didn't, so I remain dumb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Matt from Springfield:

Yeah, this weather! Seriously not funny anymore!
(If, it ever was)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Wasn't there a Three Stooges bit where on of them was trying to pronounce "Worcestershire sauce"?
  3:50pm steve:

eff this weather! eff it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Matt from Springfield:

@fred: Betty Davis is still alive though - here's hoping you still get that kick someday!
Avatar 3:53pm Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm fred:

@Matt: chances are she'll outlive me, but I'll try to meet her
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Matt from Springfield:

@fred: I'll call her personally and send her over to you!
Of course, I don't know her at all, or her contact info, so that's a challenge...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Planet Tyler:

@Matt - You have some good records to put on your list :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm fred:

@Chris from DC: I did see him, so there's that

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm fred:

I saw these acts, my death will have the station covered, don't worry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Matt from Springfield:

Minami Deutsch? Axis Powers, unite!
Avatar 4:13pm Wild Neil:

This Minami Deutsch reminds me of Chrome in terms of its driving beat and fuzzy guitar hooks.
Avatar 4:14pm Cecile:

don't die on me Fred!
Avatar 4:14pm Chris from DC:

Yeah, Neil, is does.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Stanley:

Avatar 4:19pm Wild Neil:

NEVER heard of Sandy Bull...interesting cat was he! Speak like Yoda I will!
Avatar 4:20pm northguineahills:

Wow, this is the only Sandy Bull rekkid I own! Lovely! Glad more of his stuff has been rereleased.
Avatar 4:21pm Wild Neil:

Has anybody here ever thought of doing gigs as a music critic for the paper or anything? I think I know just enough about music to be dangerous...I should probably leave this career for the musicians in the room who know their music theory.,..
Avatar 4:22pm TDK60:

Hiya Scott, Sandy Bull's a longtime fave -- one of the first '60s folkies to do raga-like stuff, with rock and jazz lick thrown in, very hep. Very freak folk, eons before that term came along.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm fred:

@Wild Neil: Sandy Bull was a mind blower. I actually thought about you thinking you'd be kindred spirits
Avatar 4:23pm Cecile:

that was indeed really beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Matt from Springfield:

@TDK60: Not "freak folk", just folk turned freaky! I enjoyed that hep cat a lot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Matt from Springfield:

Tracey Thorn, also new to me!
Avatar 4:29pm Wild Neil:

Tracey Thorn reminds me about 35 percent of Nico.
Avatar 4:29pm northguineahills:

@Matt: Tracey Thorn was in the band "Everything But the Girl".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@NGH: Okay thanks, I have heard of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Michael 98145:

i suspect jobs as music critic are few and far between these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm fred:

Any percent of Nico sounds like a cop out to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Matt from Springfield:

@Michael: Thanks Internet, everyone's a critic and no one gets paid for it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Michael 98145:

journalism used to be a career
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Michael 98145:

"Desperate search for a lemon" ...?
Avatar 4:37pm Wild Neil:

Thanks to blogs, now everybody is a critic. That's true.
Avatar 4:39pm Wild Neil:

I don't like 95% of the blues. I do like Jazz. I hate hate hate that they are lumped together on mainstream radio on "Jazz and Blues" shows....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Matt from Springfield:

Rhyton? Right on! Write on.
Avatar 4:42pm Wild Neil:

Horse Lords ROCK.
Avatar 4:42pm steve:

woo hoo Menche
  4:43pm Daniel Menche:

Thrilled beyond the valley of thrills to be on WFMU!
Avatar 4:44pm Wild Neil:

@Fred-yeah, if I could play guitar I would want to play it like Sandy Bull. Good call.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm fred:

@Wild Neil: Check out D:O Radio. Weird Jazz to blow your mind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Matt from Springfield:

@Neil: I have noticed that. My own theory on the grouping reflects their common origin at the beginning of the 20th century in the Mississippi River corridor (Memphis-Tupelo-Nyoo Orle'ns), and "pop" music orchestras in the 30s and 40s had that "swing" music which was like a hybrid of both.

Of course they diverged strongly in the 40s, with hard-bop jazz and 12-bar blues (and subsequently, rock 'n roll). I suppose those who still support those genres are thinking of it academically and historically, instead of trying to play music that syncs with each other. (Or, they consider the improv "jam" styles of both to have a similar enough vibe).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Michael 98145:

and off-planet we go
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Dipping my apples and getting ready for launch..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm fred:

@Daniel Menche: I so tried to have you come at work, but the boss didn't play along. Would you be interested in a residency at IRCAM? I could try to make that happen
  4:52pm Daniel Menche:

Love to! Let's make it happen!
  4:52pm Haiku Harold:

hot july weather
a man fries egg on sidewalk

  4:53pm P-90.:

I can't not love a song called "Space Fuckin". Sorry for the double negative and Hello DJ Scott and Friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Matt from Springfield:

@fred: "IRCAM is a French institute for science about music and sound and avant garde electro-acoustical art music. It is situated next to, and is organisationally linked with, the Centre Pompidou in Paris."

Is that where you work??! I'm sure we're all wicked envious! :)
(1 Place Igor-Stravinsky, 75004 Paris) !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Scott Williams:

Hola Menche! can't wait to finally meet you - sorry Arrow isn't on the trip (so I'm told)
Avatar 4:55pm TDK60:

Never thought of that yet, any of those space station astro-folks ever had intercourse up there?
Avatar 4:55pm steve:

fred same question
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Scott Williams:

Haiku Harold and P-90, I am with you
  4:55pm Daniel Menche:

In spirit........ Arrow shall be among us.......
  4:56pm P-90.:

Mais oui, fred, where DO you work? i don't believe youve ever been specific.
Not that you have to be but...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Matt from Springfield:

Hello P-90!
(See: Kurt Vonnegut's "The Big Space Fuck", supposedly the first book title to have Fuck in it.)

Well done, Haiku Harold!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm fred:

@Daniel Menche: I have like no input (just a technician there) but I've been talking about you for years. I'll be turning in to 11.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Matt from Springfield:

@TDK60: There was a science program about sex in space, and the small amount of private research going into it. No public space agency wants to tackle that, but if we're ever going to be able to expand humanity outside the Earth, that's a definite prerequisite.
Avatar 4:59pm geezerette:

Love this "Space Fuckin"!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Stanley:

Space Fuckin'. Yep, that's exactly what you get with this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Michael 98145:

pokemon go into the up and out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Matt from Springfield:

That's still sounds pretty cool, fred.
I believe Guido from Cologne also works in music electronics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm fred:

I do work at IRCAM, but I'm not a researcher, I'm a mere geek there, just hacking at code without any clue about what is going on
Avatar 5:02pm kirk from beer city usa:

'bout time we had some space fuckin' around here
  5:02pm Person:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Matt from Springfield:

@Scott: Can't you just replace all these NWS warnings with one "You're ALL gonna die!"
Avatar 5:03pm Cliff in Prague:

This has been the hottest summer on record for Prague.
  5:03pm P-90.:

Oh there's a big blob on the radar bearing down in Manhattan. They just don't bother to give us awrning
Avatar 5:04pm steve:

i just got a flash flood warning on my phone! wash away brooklyn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Haha! Every phone in the office just simultaneously buzzed with the emergency alert…
Avatar 5:04pm Cliff in Prague:

And there's no air conditioning anywhere in this city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Michael 98145:

Hey, Cliff. I remember the horrible flood in Prague some time back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Matt from Springfield:

@steve, Greg: Get your inflatable rafts ready!!
  5:05pm P-90.:

*"warning" I mean. But it just came through.
  5:05pm P-90.:

*"warning" I mean. But it just came through.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm fred:

@Daniel Menche: I'm going to push in all my chips and know what is going on about this (probably nothing, but I'll know for sure)
Avatar 5:06pm steve:

we got a real nice flash thunderstorm
Avatar 5:07pm Cliff in Prague:

I just missed those floods Michael 98145, I came here at the end of June

Trending hashtag among my TEFL classmates is #MakeGrammarGreatAgain ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Heh, still the same song! I love when that happens :)
  5:09pm P-90.:

That has to be at least partly a play on Deep Purple's "Space Truckin'"
  5:10pm Mott:

i always wondered what that sounds like.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Good observ, P-90!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Scott Williams:

oh my god, it's happening!! Thunder Fuckin'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Michael 98145:

this is extended intercourse !
Avatar 5:10pm Cecile:

Yeah, because the name of the album is called Made in Japan. After that wildly popular Deep Purple live album of the same name.
Avatar 5:11pm Cliff in Prague:

So that's why I've been hearing Deep Purple riffs in my head alongside all this Space Fuckin' going on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Matt from Springfield:

AC/DC: "Thunderfucked"!! :O
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Michael 98145:

guess if you say DIP APPLE enough times, it starts to sound like Deep Purple
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Matt from Springfield:

More secrets revealed, thanks Cecile and Michael!
Avatar 5:13pm Cecile:

I just heard some semi-digested chunks of Highway Star.
  5:15pm P-90:

@Cecille: Aha! I wasn't looking at the playlist page, just the home page on the mobile app, so I didnt see the album title. All is clarity now. And very wet here all of a sudden.
Avatar 5:15pm steve:

you need some fun sound effects like the EAS squelches behind you
Avatar 5:16pm Whosondephone:

It's the end!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Michael 98145:

time for a cigarette?
Avatar 5:17pm Cecile:

We had your weather on Saturday - 7 solid hours of storms. I was shocked there were no floods.
  5:19pm P-90:

Phrase of the Day:

"...semi-digested chunks of Highway Star"
Avatar 5:20pm Cliff in Prague:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Matt from Springfield:

@P-90: A Deep Purple that requires a "deep pink" to correct - Pepto Bismol.
  5:22pm P-90.:

Hey Cliff, how long does that TEFL course in Prague take?
Avatar 5:23pm Cliff in Prague:

It's a month long P-90, I'll be done this Friday (whew!)
Avatar 5:23pm steve:

maybe the weather warnings need a swishy disco beat. what doesnt?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Cecile - My sister's family spent a week in the BWCA. Good weather this year. I think they came out the same day two campers were killed by a tree that fell during a storm.
Avatar 5:27pm Cecile:

that stuff scares the crap out of me. I'm glad they were OK.
  5:27pm P-90.:

@Cliff: would you recommend that course? And have you met any of those hot Praguish chicks while you've been there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Michael 98145:

Logan 5 is a Sandman
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm fred:

I'm so ashamed that I kinda pretended to be able to have any influence while I have none. I work at a kinda nice place, IRCAM, but I am basically a janitor there.
Avatar 5:31pm Cliff in Prague:

Yes I'd recommend it, it's very intensive though (I spend 11 hours a day M-Th at the school, either in class, teaching, or working on my lesson plans)

And yeah, I see gorgeous women walking around every day all over this city, it's kind of driving me crazy.... Once the course is done I'll have some time to learn some conversational Czech and hang out in the bars and stuff :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm chris:

Czech, please! :D
  5:33pm JakeGould:

The rain? Bring it!
Avatar 5:33pm Cliff in Prague:

If I end up dating someone from Prague, she'll be my Czech mate ;)
Avatar 5:33pm steve:

i just saw the great mr Ken Montgomery of Gens Unlimited this weekend. missed his set (here at Silent Barn) but we got a good chat in! truly an inspiration that guy, could talk to him for hours.
Avatar 5:34pm Cecile:

hey fred you probably know where the coffee and the copy toner are. That makes you indispensable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Matt from Springfield:

Nice piece of dragon folk here.
  5:38pm P-90.:

And what's the adjective for someone from Prague? Not "Praguish". They're not "Proggy" either, those are the ladies who swoon over Jon Anderson. Who suddenly has three bands going and is hot again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Scott Williams:

@steve, did you see he's playing in a "rock band" for the 1st time in his life?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Matt from Springfield:

Radio anxiety dreams!!
Avatar 5:40pm Cliff in Prague:

Wikipedia says it's "Praguer", which just sounds funny to me (but better than "Praguish" :)
  5:40pm Mark R:

My radio anxiety nightmares actually take place while I'm on the air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Brian in New Orleans:

I'm here!
Avatar 5:41pm steve:

lol dream Ken's response! hahaha
Avatar 5:42pm Cliff in Prague:

That sure does sound like Ken, haha!
  5:42pm P-90.:

Freud would interpret this as an expression of a subconscious fear of sexual impotence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Matt from Springfield:

@P-90: Of course he would.
*lights up a cigar*
  5:43pm JakeGould:

You bring the rain, I'll bring the chips.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm fred:

@Cecile: Sadly, I'm not even that useful. I' am very dispensable. Logic is what I'm worth, and it is worth more that zero. Not for long
Avatar 5:46pm Cecile:

I know how that goes, fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Matt from Springfield:

@Cliff, P-90: The German origin resident name would be Prag-er (after "Prag"), but since the Czech is "Praha", I tried to find what they would call themselves. Not Prahski or Prahov, but apparently: "Pražák" and "Pražačka" Not pronounced like "Prozac", but I still think that's kinda cool :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Matt from Springfield:

"Prah-ZHACK" and "Prah-ZHACH-KA"
  5:48pm Caldwell:

Ian Anderson guesting on flute, or, dude from Marshall Tucker?
  5:49pm JakeGould:

Matt speaks the Pravda!
Avatar 5:50pm Cliff in Prague:

Yep, that looks about right Matt from Springfield

Now I need to work up the courage to start saying "Dobry den" to some Pražačka cuties... ;)
  5:50pm JakeGould:

How do weather warnings work for prerecorded shows?
  5:51pm Clay:

Jake, it's a pain. You have to pre-empt the programming and interrupt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Matt from Springfield:

@Cliff: Buy them a nice "pivo", that always helps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Michael 98145:

this is nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Matt from Springfield:

Incidentally, Tones on Tail had a great track in the 80s called "Rain".
Avatar 5:56pm Cliff in Prague:

Matt - "Dobry den", "prosim", "dekuji", "pivo", "vino", and "toalety" are about the extent of my Czech vocabulary so far (but do I really need more than that? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Matt from Springfield:

Ha, not really! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm fred:

Yeah they were trying to survive too, whatever worked
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:
