Hiya, Joe, and hello to the McGaskills and McGaskettes assembled to soak up the healing surface noise.

Good morning Joe!
Hello people!
All Liquid Liquid-EPs re-issued on vinyl?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Ike:

Nice to hear FXO on the air, and saying the frequencies after each call letter too. Haven't heard that in a while. Optional and perfectly legal to mention the frequency even if between the call letters and the city of license. Great opening set, Joe.
Avatar 9:18am Joe McG:

Hi, everybody! Good morning and welcome to the program. @Guido: I'm not sure about all of them, but we've seen two so far in the FMU new bin in the past couple of months.
Avatar 9:21am Joe McG:

@Ike: Agree! Great to see Frank live and in person in the studio this morning!

Thanks, KP! Hey melinda! Had to get my blood moving a bit.

Chris M. celebrated the music of Beavis & Butt-head last week. Which DJ will feature the music of Cop Rock? Or has that already happened?

Aw, that was a nice song.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am doctorjazz:

Do you have the follow up..."And Then His lawyers Served Me"?
  9:50am Dennis Diken:

whats the scoop on this Crystals remake of "Then He Kissed Me"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am doctorjazz:

It did sound like a remake...I thought it was just my radio or internet signal...
  9:51am Jeffy Jazz:

Wasn't that tune in Goodfellas, too?
Digging the Monday AM set, Joe!
Avatar 9:52am Joe McG:

@DD: I don't know! I thought it was the original. I'll have to pull out the "Back to Mono" set and see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am doctorjazz:

Is this the start of a marathon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am doctorjazz:

Sonny really couldn't sing, could he?
Avatar 9:55am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe.

@doctorjazz, skiing was not his forte either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

This song is GREAT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Parq:

Avatar 9:56am statoj:

A brilliant host versions of a great song! The Beach Boys' take on point of view was interesting. Thanks, Joe, I needed this!
Avatar 9:57am Brian in UK:

@Cliff Can I recommend this exhibition, quite wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Parq - end of this month, to teach English and travel around Europe.

Brian in UK - Thanks! Been getting lots of recommendations of things to see there :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Guido from Cologne:

First 3 recordings of "Then He Kissed Me" could involve same background musicians (so called Wrecking Crew), though different arranges:
Jack Nietsche for the Crystals,
Harold Battiste for Sonny & Cher,
Brian Wilson for the Beach Boys
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am doctorjazz:

Go Joe!!!
(hard to get back to work, hope this doesn't go on too long).

@Brian in UK... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Avatar 10:05am Joe McG:

@Guido: Excellent info, thanks! @drjazz: We'll see when I get tired of this song. Which may be never.
Avatar 10:07am Brian in UK:

@Cliff there is a Mucha gallery in town but this is EPIC. Oddly the buildings in Prague are beautiful with lots of sculptures adorning them but the exhibition is in the dullest municipal building imaginable.
Hope you like pork and beer.

Avatar 10:09am Joe McG:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Brian - I do like my pork, but I just went on a gluten-free diet so no beer....but I can still have whiskey & vodka

Joe - is there a version of this song called "Then I Kissed Him"? How about "Then We Kissed Them" or "Then They Kissed Us"? Just to get all the pronouns in there
  10:10am Cooh John:

then he KISSed me.
Avatar 10:10am statoj:

Joe, to paraphrase Walt Whitman, you contain multitudes.

Avatar 10:12am Joe McG:

@Cooh John: Oh yeah, you know it. @Brian: Yes, completely. NOT satisfied yet.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Pffffft youse guys. I could listen to this song all day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am ChrisB.:

How come no one's ever changed "kissed" to "kicked"?
Avatar 10:21am SheWolf:

I was just going to say the same. All day is fine with me.
Avatar 10:22am Joe McG:

@Tommi: Ha ha ha! I have to do Single File in 8 minutes, so I'm running out of time!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am steveo:

Each time I hear this, I can't wait to hear it again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Greg from ZONE 5:

Man, you could do a whole separate show of songs that stole that beat.
Avatar 10:28am Marcel M:

@Greg: Just Like Honey comes to mind.
  10:28am Tommi Adderal:

Don Imus uses this a bed too. It's a cool bed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Greg from ZONE 5:

@Marcel: EXACTLY what I was thinking.
Avatar 10:33am Joe McG:

@Greg: Great suggestion, and Marcel, you're so right about the beat being used many times. Also "Be My Baby."
Avatar 10:35am Brian in UK:

Would someone take this rain off our hands. It has ruined the cricket. One finds it most insufferable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am doctorjazz:

Richard Thompson did a tribute to that beat I really like, Jet Plane on a Rocking Chair, with Linda.
Avatar 10:37am βrian:

It's too early for crickets here. We haven't even seen the fireflies yet.
Avatar 10:38am Joe McG:

Did T. Rex ever do a Crystals beat? He's so 50s influenced, but I can't think of one offhand.
Avatar 10:40am Brian in UK:

@Joe Chuck Berry was his mentor once he went electric.
Avatar 10:40am Marcel M:

damn.. what a start!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

"Be My Baby" and "Just Like Honey" have the same beat, I never realized that before.
  10:46am Jeffy Jazz:

Damn, I thought I could die without ever having to hear this song again. Thanks a lot, Joe!
Avatar 10:46am Joe McG:

@Jeffy: Ha ha ha! It's quite terrible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

The guy from Killing Joke complained that Nirvana's "Come As You Are" was a ripoff of their song "Eighties", but when it was pointed out to him that The Damned's "Life Goes On" starts with the same riff, he claimed to have never heard that song before.
Avatar 10:49am Joe McG:

@Cliff: I don't think Kurt ever heard "More Than a Feeling," either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Joe, it's a pretty obscure song. I don't blame him.
  10:51am Tommi Adderal:

OK now get 20 versions of Sugar Daddy and then I'll really be impressed.
Avatar 10:52am Joe McG:

@Cliff: So true. One of these days someone will have to have a Boston revival to remind us what we missed.
Avatar 10:52am Joe McG:

@Tommi: Working on it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Has anybody at WFMU ever played Boston on the air? Everybody on the comments board plotzed last night when Dave Mandl played The Grateful Dead.
Avatar 10:56am Brian in UK:

Was it Boston that had one of the worst album covers ever.
Avatar 10:58am Joe McG:

Fabio played Boston in 2011.
Avatar 10:58am Joe McG:

But I have a strong suspicion that was Clay Pigeon guesting.
Avatar 10:59am Brian in UK:

Sorry it was Orleans. Easy mistake to make.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Supposedly the commenters got Nachum Seagal to play Rush during Ken's show when he stepped out of the studio for a moment.
Avatar 11:01am Brian in UK:

Useless fact No.23. Stewart Copeland is born on the same day & year as me.
  11:01am melinda:

One doesn't often hear the Police on WFMU either. Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Greg from ZONE 5:

Haha…I thought you meant the model Fabio played a show in Boston in 2011. I was like "Why does Joe have that information so readily available?"
Avatar 11:02am Joe McG:

@Greg: I'm a Fabio follower from way back, ha ha.
  11:02am melinda:

Greg that's funny.
  11:03am Jeffy Jazz:

That was some of Copleland's best drumming. Wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Brian - I have the same birthday as Mick Jagger, just 35 years apart.
  11:04am Jeffy Jazz:

Yeah, Joe, I wonder if there was overdubbing? The rolls just seem to go on while he plays the groove.
Avatar 11:07am coelacanth:

'probably my favorite police song and i had the volume down- trying to think of the t rex song with a " he kissed me beat".
...and i don't think Copeland needed any overdubs. that he could play.
Avatar 11:08am βrian:

That LaVette title makes me think of "Bernie made me white."

Up The Swarbs!
Avatar 11:14am Brian in UK:

Swarb had a double lung transplant just over ten years ago and he still kept gigging.
Avatar 11:15am Joe McG:

@Brian: I know, it's really hard to imagine, but he soldiered through for another 10+ years!
Avatar 11:16am Brian in UK:

Joe same with hearts, if the fit is right you can survive for many years. Not heard of a double heart transplant....yet.
  11:16am Will:

I like English folk! Just discovered another good band from the Fairport/Steeleye school, Spriguns of Tolgus. Their LP "Revel Weird and Wild" (1976) is a real delight. Lots of violin, female vocals from Mandy Morton. Now to settle into some Swarbrick....
Avatar 11:18am Joe McG:

@Will: Thanks for the recommendation! I'll check them out!
Avatar 11:23am Brian in UK:

Pibroch on the fiddle?
Avatar 11:24am Sem Chumbo:

Sounds like there should be a .gif of little people dancing around Stonehenge.
Avatar 11:25am coelacanth:

Joe Thanks for the excellent Then he kissed me tribute. (old news now but my computer wasn't on before) surprisingly i thought only 2 of them were terrible. more surprising is that neither was the kiss version!
- 'good to be reminded of how Great that Sonny and Cher album is.
Avatar 11:26am Joe McG:

@Sem: Hee hee! @coelcanth: Thanks!
Avatar 11:27am Brian in UK:

Hey Sem, must revisit The Tap now it is the cricket season.

How are the spuds doing?
Avatar 11:27am Marc Francis:

Love this Journeyman song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Carmichael:

Heya Joe and Fairport Convention.
Avatar 11:29am Sem Chumbo:

It's been an uncharacteristically cold and wet spring, Brian. Spuds languishing, dreaming of something warm, like a deep fryer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am doctorjazz:

Love this stuff as well...have to check out the Spriguns of Tolgus, thanks @will.
Avatar 11:29am Brian in UK:

A friend of mine saw Fairport a couple of days before Swarb passed away. They are still on top form playing a folk club in Nettlebed.
Avatar 11:30am Joe McG:

@Brian: The current incarnation of the band has been together longer than all of the other versions of the band combined!
Avatar 11:32am geezerette:

Lovely fiddle!
Avatar 11:33am Brian in UK:

Sem it is vile the last two days, cannot put any toms outside.

Joe I think Mattacks and Nichol are still there. Cropredy Festival coming up in August if memory serves. Alice Cooper played there the other year. Bizarre.
Avatar 11:34am Joe McG:

@Brian: Lovely. I wish I'd been fortunate enough to attend one, but thankfully there are many recordings. Even an entire box set of just Cropedy recordings!
  11:35am βrian:

Pretty muggy on the isthmus lately, though now we have some respite. The tomatoes are well over two feet already — a record for us. No room for spuds, sadly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Cliff (moving to Prague!):

This is beautiful.
Avatar 11:37am Brian in UK:

Joe Cropredy is right by the Oxford Canal, two blokes I know of usually canoe there from further south and meet up with the car carrying the tents etc.

@βrian Good work. What varieties?
Avatar 11:39am geezerette:

Wonderful tribute Joe.
Avatar 11:39am coelacanth:

so, so good. Thank you Joe.

back to "then he kissed me"...I'd need to double check but I'm pretty sure that the Beach Boys themselves played on their own version. the beat in question is the Latin "baion", heard on many early Drifters and Bacharach tracks as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Cliff (moving to Prague!):
