Morning all... RIP maurice white.. thank you for the music for another beautiful train ride
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Kat in Chicago:

Definitely want Duane at the controls for this Tribute Train.
Avatar 12:29pm

whoa! Didn't know he played on Marlena Shaw's California Soul. I first heard that as a DJ Shadow break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm

good morning all.

Never knew Maurice White drummed on Summertime, that's awesome

The best version of "Summertime" hands down!!! So happy to hear this. Thanks Duane!

killer show!

And this is a slightly different version from the 45. More feisty!
Avatar 12:37pm
Polk Biggins:

Hey ho all...digging the show, Duane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm

@djsheilab -- yep, i've heard that version of summertime before, too ... not sure if it's from an LP or comp... -- but i'm in the "I prefer the 45" camp. Drums feel louder...perhaps it's in my head...but also the 45 seems a bit faster, though maybe I pitch it up. *shoulder shrug*
Avatar 12:39pm

Wonderful songs today, D.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
Mike East:

this is all so good.

I love this song so much.

Hello all:) Happy to hear you're enjoying the genius of Mr. White!! thank you for your ears:)
Frankie M:

Great Program.,RIP Maurice he was the talent, we miss him, EWF back in the day so full of positive energy. His music will always be with us.

Enjoying a roast beef and avocado sandwich while listening to this (better than using mayo!)
Avatar 12:50pm
Polk Biggins:

Thinking of how much I love The Elements...the song 'Serpentine Fire' is my jam. So many great, great tracks. Oof. Maurice! What a legend.
Avatar 12:55pm
Joe B:

great show!
paula pc:

as we get to the 70s, any chance of something from the incandescent Sweetback soundtrack? And such a gorgeous tribute...thank you, Duane...

Really appreciating the music history rundown...

Didn't even catch that. Much gratitude to Maurice White!

Great bio on Maurice White. Especially loving the real, off the cuff from the heart style of it.

Amazed that he do soooo much that I never heard about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm

Geez. I thought I knew a lot about the AACM, but this Maurice White connection is quite a revelation! Thanks for sharing. (listening now from Mexico City)
Avatar 1:04pm

Crazu. I never would have guessed there was a connection between AACM and Earth, Wind, and Fire.
paula pc:

paula pc:

well YES
Avatar 1:09pm

We should rename Duane Train to the Duane School Bus
Avatar 1:09pm

Why is Duane playing Frank Zappa?" I thought.
(I'm back now.)

Mike East:

recently had to come up with some gear to replicate the EWF video for "September" for a tv production. Really enjoyed watching it (great costumes, they look like they're having so much fun. Maurice White is electric). All these years I had no idea what they were saying in the chorus...turns out its just Ba-di-ya, which I assume are just nonsense rhythm syllables. Not far from what I had been singing to cover the fact that I didn't know what they were saying.

Long story short...there may be a TV show coming up that involves Earth Wind and Fire as characters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm

Duane, for a good, 2015 k-pop take on les fleur, ck out lim kim's awoo. Iz gud.

Sweetback is an awesome movie. Come on, feet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm

good show. i love how you take us along on his career
Avatar 1:16pm

I didn't know about so much of this. Duane taking us to school today!
Avatar 1:18pm

Is that bass making that amazing sound? So sick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm

encouraging news, Mike East!
paula pc:

@robyn - exactly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm

i like Diamond D's sample of Bad Tune, for the Feel the Vibe track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
the Canterbury wood-elf:

Wow, this is some seriously freaky stuff. I had no idea EW&F made music this far out! Wonderful, thank you Duane : )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
the Canterbury wood-elf:

What are the best EW&F years to check out?
Avatar 1:29pm

if you like this stuff, check out the first three EWF albums (71-74)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
the Canterbury wood-elf:

(My guess would be '71-'74, which would apply for almost all artists who were active during those years, but correct me if i'm wrong...)
Avatar 1:29pm

Now this is more like the EWF I know — a little cheesy. It's great to have heard so much new (to me) and excellent material.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
the Canterbury wood-elf:

@βrian Exactly. I'd only heard the cheese before.

i like cheese
paula pc:

near-same 70s to 80s arc as Kool and the Gang, and I love both groups all through the 80s too...and yes David Foster wrote After The Love Has Gone and that's loveable too

I like cheese and I like funk, but I don't like funky cheese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm

The self titled EWF album and the second EWF album (for WB) can be found on the vinyl comp 'Another Time'. The self titled LP used to be hard to find, not sure if that is still the case...
Avatar 1:40pm

The question is, is it commodity cheese, or artisanal cheese?

Depends....was the artisanal cheese made by some funky (as in unshowered) neckbeard?

I just came across Another Time for the first time last week - was wondering what that was. The person browsing to my right grabbed it, so didn't get to look at the tracks.

Avatar 1:51pm

'Another Time' is definitely a lot easier to come by in the field than actual copies of the 1st two EWF records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
holland oats:

beautiful show

Nick S.:

In '94 I moved and started hanging out with a group of musicians in my new town (I was a drummer). One afternoon, I was dropping off this one guy and when we got to the parking lot of his squalid apartment building 'Shining Star' came on the radio. Of course, I cranked that shit to the max and jammed out like I always did. When the song was over I turned down the radio and looked at him, expecting him to be silent and removed as he was about most of what I was into and he said, "What the fuck was that?" He was a kid at the time. It blew him away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
Mike East:

These songs are so overplayed on commercial radio, but they are still so fucking good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm

this is some of the best produced music from the 70s
paula pc:

@ mike east -- yes - hearing them in their context with Duane is a whole other experience
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
Goyim in the AM:

Dunno that Fantasy is overplayable. My God, there's so much going on in that wonderful song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
