@Joe-can you please play some Dirty Beaches?
Avatar 10:24am Joe McG:

I'd like to, Neil, but I haven't listened to the CD yet so I don't know any of the songs or if I like them.
  10:28am Neil, Wild:

@Joe-its SO GOOD please try some soon...its like ambient noise loops with musicality imbued into it...so so so good. With a little bit of hip hop for good measure. Wow.
  10:28am riff randell:

Oh no I missed Lil Bub.....
  10:30am pygmylunch:

@riff It's okay, Lil Bub is eternal.
Avatar 10:30am Joe McG:

@Neil: I'll give it a go, Neil! Hi, Riff!
  10:32am Neil, Wild:

@Joe-I think "Stateless" might be a good place to start...that is what I heard here on FMU...
Avatar 10:33am BrandonECannon:

but what did my dj speak over!?
Avatar 10:34am Joe McG:

@Brandon: Art Van Damme, the one and only.
  10:35am Neil, Wild:

@Joe-the track that I heard was "Displaced" from "Stateless"...wow its like a soundtrack of a shipwreck...
  10:36am riff randell:

Is it still summer time in NYC?
Avatar 10:36am Joe McG:

Thanks for the recommendations, Neil. I believe Scott Williams had DB on his show a year or two ago, but I might be wrong about that.
Avatar 10:38am Joe McG:

@riff: Yep, pretty durn balmy here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Scott Williams:

You are correct, Joe! DB was on my show twice ('12 and '13), both sessions are on the FMA: freemusicarchive.org...
Avatar 10:43am Joe McG:

Great! Thanks, Scott. Check out those FMA sets, Neil!
  10:49am Neil, Wild:

@Joe-what is FMA?
Avatar 10:49am Cecile:

A ska version of "play misty for me"
Avatar 10:50am Cecile:

you just know he's gonna get obsessed pretty soon.
Avatar 10:50am Joe McG:

  10:56am Polyus:

Edward? Thank you.
  10:58am StuBot:

thanks for playing VH Women and Children first. I have never heard that played on the radio ever, always been a favorite of mine.
Avatar 11:01am Joe McG:

My pleasure, StuBot.
  11:01am Listener Alexandra:

My favorite Stereolab song! Thanks, Joe :-)
Avatar 11:01am Chris from DC:

Stereolab had a couple of perfect singles didn't they?
  11:03am riff randell:

Was listening to Refried Ectoplasm all OVER Christmas x
Avatar 11:03am Joe McG:

My pleasure, Alex!
  11:08am StuBot:

Could this be Magic... of course, my mistake. I remember putting that on a mix tape for my HS gf in 1982...
Avatar 11:13am Cecile:

Joe, I thought of you when I was watching Penguins of Madagascar and Peter Stormare voiced the part of the soft-hearted polar bear. (This movie is surprisingly good and fun).
  11:14am Greg from ZONE 5:

Just crossed the border into South Carolina. Rain, chicken shops, fireworks, WFMU
Avatar 11:14am Joe McG:

Oh, yes, Peter is so talented. It was nice to have him on the show to talk about Ramases.
Avatar 11:15am Chris from DC:

Big Blood!
Avatar 11:15am Joe McG:

@Greg: Buy some fireworks and chicken for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Mike East:

@Cecile - thanks for the recommend...I'm gonna check that out for sure.
Avatar 11:17am Cecile:

He was just lovely. It's one of those movies where the best voice is cast whether it be well-known (Benedict Cumberbatch, John Malkovich, Stormare) or known for other things (the penguins are voiced by Madagasar's producers).
Avatar 11:22am Ear Hammer:

This is v v v v pretty. It's Andrew Bird minus Andrew Bird.
Avatar 11:23am bobdoesthings:

yehh,. went to go clicky star.. but was already clicky-ed!

  11:27am AS from MP:

holiday shutdown at work allows me live, terrestrial access to Surface Noise! One good thing about this twisted holiday period! Happy Everything, Joe, keep on keeping us entertained in '16.
  11:29am Ike:

Stormare was totally wasted in a couple of guest shots as a stock villain on Arrow. Sometimes that show is good, but... not those episodes.
Avatar 11:29am Joe McG:

Many thanks, AS from MP! I'm happy whenever people hear the show, live or on archive. Thanks for saying hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Carmichael:

Heya Joe and fellow post-holiday depressants.
Avatar 11:30am Joe McG:

@EH: Ha ha, so right! @Cecile: Wow, two Ceciles! @Ike: I think he gets tired of playing the bad guy. He's sweet as pie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Mike East:

I go back and forth with whether I like that show or not too, Ike. Definitely has some lulls.
Avatar 11:31am Cecile:

How did you like the Arrow/Flash crossover, Ike? I thought it was pretty swell. I have to go back and figure out how Laurel Lance somehow manages to not be dead weight - I missed those episodes.
Avatar 11:31am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Sorry, just tuning in now. Any chance you could play "Rocket" again? Hate to have missed it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Mike Sin:

I have some time off from work, so I'm quite happy to listen to your show live and loud through the broadcast signal! I miss hearing this great show in real time. I hope Joe and all listeners here are having a happy and healthy holiday week.
Avatar 11:33am Joe McG:

@Todd: Oops! "The Ladies" on the B is also good! :) @MS: Many thanks, Mike! Happy new year to you.
Avatar 11:33am Cecile:

Joe, do you have any Portico Quartet? They should fit this mood.
Avatar 11:36am Joe McG:

@Cecile: We might, but I have to be honest with you, I'm not feeling up to a dash into the library. For some reason I got up at 4 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am maestroso:

This 2015 set is great.
Avatar 11:36am Cecile:

that's fine. Still, you might want to check them out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Carmichael:

This ambient stuff fits my Monday morning like a glove. Especially after a hard partying week.
Avatar 11:38am Joe McG:

@Cecile: I definitely will, thanks for the recommendation! I've gotten two recommendations for music to check out today. Does anyone else have any 2015 favorites that you think I might like?
  11:38am AS from MP:

Yes, what Mike Sin said: archives are great, live in the moment is greater still. Happy holiday week to Mike, always look forward to his air time.
Avatar 11:40am Cecile:

I thought the Horrendous album was great if you like Finnish death metal.
Avatar 11:41am Cecile:

Symphony for the Devil by Mamuthones was also excellent.
Avatar 11:41am Joe McG:

@Cecile: Ha ha! I think you may have mistaken me for Chris M.
Avatar 11:42am Cecile:

The Nicholas Jaar single Nymphs II is great minimal techno.

Well, Joe, some of the guitar on there is pretty damn lyrical once you get past the hrarrrrrr part.
Avatar 11:44am Cecile:

At times it sounded like they had drafted Buck Dharma to play for them.
Avatar 11:44am Joe McG:

@Cecile: I find it personally difficult to get past the hrarrrr part. I know that's my problem.
Avatar 11:45am Cecile:

It all evens out. I'm not the biggest Big BLood fan, either.
Avatar 11:47am V Priceless:

digging the ambient groove...fine stuff, Joe! Kinda reminiscent of "Music from The Hearts of Space", which was always a fave here.
Avatar 11:48am Joe McG:

@VP: I'm feeling at home here, at long last. Sometimes it's hard to tell what music is going to work for you on a certain day.
Avatar 11:54am Claw!:

Tanks, Joe! Swell show.
Have a great week, All!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Mike East:
