Avatar 4:41pm Chris from DC:

I don't recall if you've mentioned what that music bed is.
  4:41pm P-90:

@Rich in Wash: I notice that a lot of records played slow sound like Bill Cosby. Or Maybe Bill Cosby just sounds like a slow record?
Avatar 4:44pm ironybread:

Did anyone back in the day buy records from Nonesuch's new music series, 1969-1980? I see these in the vintage electronic LP bins at the swap meets all the time - haven't bought any yet: taylorjessen.blogspot.com...

Hah! @Chris from DC you owe me a Coke!
Avatar 4:47pm ironybread:

This year I bought the first flexidisc I'd bought since "Billy and the Boingers Bootleg" in 1988: a James Bond riff by comedy group Superego. www.gosuperego.com...

Pocket Disc, “Philco manufactured these types of disks under the name "Hip Pocket Records" and sold them to be played on portable record players, which were specially created for the disks. Artists who appeared on these disks included Neil Diamond, The Five Americans, The Doors, Sonny and Cher, Merrilee Rush, and Joan Baez.” en.wikipedia.org...
  4:49pm WILDNEIL:

VOI check. W sounds like V in Polish.
  4:49pm WILDNEIL:

V sounds like nothing since it does not exist in the Polish alphabet. My wife is from Poland.
Avatar 4:52pm ironybread:

Tonight is the last night for people to see "Hourglass Sanitorium" at BAM, the closest a movie has ever come for me to behaving like a dream
  4:52pm P-90:

"Saragossa Manuscript" and "Rocco and his Brothers": both highly recommended. You'll walk out knowing you've seen a classic in either case.

Loved that diskono track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Rich in Washington:

I'll bet if you play this Burroughs track at half speed he sounds like Bill Cosby!
Avatar 5:39pm JakeGhould:

“Curse Go Back” is that from some computer speaking things? Sounds like SAM (Software Automatic Mouth) or an old school Voice Box by The Alien Group.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Rich in Washington:

It's William S. Burroughs using his real voice in an old tape recorder.
Avatar 5:42pm JakeGhould:

@Rich: Wow. Well, listen to the intonations from this Alien Group Voice Box. Sounds pretty similar. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 5:43pm Jaackk:

Was there ever a WFMU playlist that didn't have Jake Gould in the comment section?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Rich in Washington:

I read somewhere that Burroughs experimented with a throat microphone - similar to the ones used by WWII fighter pilots, thinking it would yield some interesting effects. I think here are recordings somewhere.
Avatar 5:44pm JakeGhould:

@Jaackk: Up until 5 minutes ago I wasn’t here today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Rich in Washington:

JakeGhould: THat's pretty funny sounding! Yes, Burroughs had a pretty distinctive voice even when talking normally. I think in that recording, he was trying to sound like some disembodied voice, like a medium channeling something otherworldly.
  5:45pm P-90:

Oh, here we go.
Avatar 5:46pm northguineahills:

Thanks Fab!
  5:46pm nic:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Rich in Washington:

I remember as a small kid watching some UFO documentary and there was a part with a man who claimed to channel aliens and he spoke in a voice similar to that in the Burroughs recording. I remember it scaring the crap out of me as a kid.

Avatar 5:50pm Polyus:

  5:51pm P-90:

"Shangri-La City Limits" good name for a show on WFMU
  5:52pm P-90:

Clay in Harry Harrison mode
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Cliff:

The guy who assassinated Gandhi probably didn't like him too much.

On the other hand, Hitler was the guy who killed Hitler, so at least he did one good thing in his life.
