Heya Dan and individuals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm Andrew Waterloo:

wow, can't believe I missed the return of Mr. Dan Bodah on the schedule.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

This opening track reminds me of the a capella thing our second grade music teacher had us sing: Ta ta ti ti ta. Ti ti ta ta. We would also clap along to it, I think.

how do they learn to do this???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Carmichael:

Is this what they call "speaking in tongues"?

Avatar 7:08pm Cliff:

Hello Dan, glad to hear you back on the air again
Avatar 7:08pm Cheri Pi:

I wrongly thought it was an Ali Khan member, 2 for 2 Bodah.
Avatar 7:10pm Cliff:

Speaking in tongues is what they do in Pentecostal and Charismatic churches. Should be plenty of recordings online if you care to search for them.

  7:14pm penelope:

that konnakol piece was amazing
Avatar 7:14pm Dan Bodah:

I will definitely play some speaking in tongues at some point...many weeks of weird vocal arts to come!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Andrew Waterloo:

My ex is/was Pentecostal because her parents were ministers and ran a Pentecostal church. I learned about this speaking in tongues thing the weekend I visited.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Andrew Waterloo:

Afterward I asked why she never warned me. She just shrugged and said "you wouldn't have believed me"
Avatar 7:16pm Cliff:

Glad to hear that, Dan.....I have a Ph.D. in linguistics (yes, really) and am quite fascinated by glossolalia. :)
  7:17pm Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

oh look, its the 19 necks again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Andrew Waterloo:

This concert was on behalf of the dictator's birthday. The song title means:May you live as old as these lands!

@Fjolla, thanks very much for the information
  7:30pm Fjolla Hoxha:

I hold the same sirname as he, may I not be his cousin!:) Greetings from Prishtina, Kosova! Always tuned to wfmu!!!
Avatar 7:31pm Cliff:

Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares is one of my favorite albums, just throwing that out there.
  7:31pm Liz K.:

Nice surprise to find Dan Bodah is back on every week.
Avatar 7:31pm ranjit:

so happy to hear a new Dan Bodah vocal show!
  7:32pm mary:

I appreciate Meredith Monk, since she's been in the news...seen/heard plenty of MM but people, the Rustavi! And others on this show and elsewhere in the world.
  7:33pm Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

I wonder what this translates into?
  7:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Glad this program & Dan Bodah are here.
  7:35pm mary:

So glad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar 7:38pm Cliff:

First time listening, instant fan of the show. Thanks so much, Dan!
  7:38pm Listener Robert:

Speakin' in tongues ain't nuthin'. I CURSE in tongues!
Avatar 7:39pm Dan Bodah:

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. And keep the suggestions coming -- I have lots of stuff on deck for coming weeks but I am always happy to learn about new things.
Avatar 7:40pm Cliff:

There are some forms of aphasia where the sufferers can only express themselves in curse words and nothing else. Sad but true.
Avatar 7:45pm ranjit:

Suggestions: some or all of Caroline Shaw's Partita for 8 Voices.

Also Stockhausen's Stimmung, but that's an hour long and doesn't break up into neat pieces!
Avatar 7:46pm Cliff:

Sheila Chandra?
  7:46pm Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

a force of nature... like me!
  7:47pm Will:

Are ya gonna play any death or black metal?
Avatar 7:47pm Cliff:

Nope, wrong guess. But I agree, she is a force of nature
Avatar 7:48pm Dan Bodah:

@Will, I do have it on my agenda to pick out some black metal for the show, but specific suggestions are welcome.
  7:49pm Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

I suggest you yell into the microphone in the strangest voice you can
Avatar 7:50pm Cliff:

He doesn't need to, they've got all kinds of knobs and doohickeys in the studio to alter the sound of things
  7:52pm JakeGould:

@DanBodah: I like this show. In a 1 hour timespan you are waking me up with all of this stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm dale:

yma to diamanda is a natural segue.
  7:53pm Noisy:

One suggestion that immediately sprang to mind was "Parole", it has great glossolalia but I don't know who performed it. Also, Enka is an entire genre of Japanese music well known for its unusual and histrionic vocals.

Thanks for playing Diamanda. I expect we'll hear some Yoko Ono and Sachiko soon, eh?
Avatar 7:54pm Dan Bodah:

@JakeGould, I feel like an hour really flies by, but I'm trying to pace things so the music has time to settle in.
  7:55pm JakeGould:

@DanBodah: Oh, it does fly by… But I think it’s a good pace for those stuff. At least for poor schmoes who don’t know about most of it. Good work!
Avatar 7:56pm Cliff:

Balinese Kecak would be fun to listen to too....Nurse With Wound and Mr. Bungle have both sampled such sounds
  7:56pm Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

i'm a poor schmoe
  7:57pm Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

and im proud of it
  7:58pm Mr. Joe Bob McFred:

wait... was she like having babies or something?
Avatar 7:59pm Cliff:

That was excellent, thanks so much Dan!
Avatar 7:59pm Cheri Pi:

Thanks Dan!!
  8:00pm Noisy:

Looking forward to the next show!
Avatar 8:00pm ! I X Key !:

clicky-staredr i put a spell on you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Ike:

Thanks Dan! The show's not long enough but it'll have to do!
Avatar 8:03pm ranjit:

I misread Cliff's suggestion as "Business Kecak" and now that's something I really want to hear.
