Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 9:05pm Daniel Blumin:

Cliff! I think you mean Komi! Howdy, JakeG, doca and the Friday partypantz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 9:08pm Ike:

добрый вечер!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 9:09pm Cliff:

Ah yes, the Komi, who according to Wikipedia belong to the Permian branch of the Finno-Ugric peoples and are known for their reindeer husbandry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 9:12pm fleep:

Local excitement over. Some nut firing gun into the air outside a bank on the main drag. Cops killed him. Now back to the wonderfully semi-sealed world of WFMU. Greetings, Daniel Blumin and Bluminauts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 9:14pm Daniel Blumin:

Ahh yes - reindeer husbandry! Hellooooo, Ike! Jezis, fleep - I bet you need some insect phonetics research to calm you down...

Hey Daniel. First unsupervised concert - Motley Crue and Accept, Hull Quebec, 1984. There I admitted it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:20pm Daniel Blumin:

Mr. Fish! How was it? Did it live up to expectations?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 10:20pm Jack Mello:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:22pm Daniel Blumin:

Hey there, Jack!!! Yr first unaccompanied show? No adults present?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:25pm coelacanth:

mine...it's embarrassing- the grateful dead! (i'm not really embarrassed!)
...but i didn't like them that much- more of a floyd-zep kinda kid (well- i was all over the map...) but my 3 best friends were going.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:25pm JakeGould:

My first concert unaccompanied? Sting on the “Dream of the Blue Turtles” tour at Radio City Music Hall. Yup… *crickets* *crickets* *crickets* *howls* *crickets*
Avatar Fri. 7/24/15 10:27pm Mr. Fish:

To be honest I dont remember much other than the trip there and the parking lot. and buying a Motley Crue headband. I was either 12 or 13. Heady days ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:28pm Daniel Blumin:

Jake, did he do Russians (Love Their Children Too)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:30pm JakeGould:

@DanielBlumin: I realized I became an adult when I realized how stupid that song is/was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:31pm Daniel Blumin:

Hope you still have the band, Mr. Fish!

  Fri. 7/24/15 10:36pm alexander:

peace
Avatar Fri. 7/24/15 10:37pm Mayuko:

Been thinking hard but can't remember what my first adult-unattended show was. Could have been Radiohead on their OK computer tour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:37pm fleep:

Jack Benny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 10:39pm steve:

first show without parents was a local punk/hardcore show which somehow got booked at my friend's high school in Emerson NJ, which was shut down 2/3 of the way through due to rioting. it seemed like the most magical thing as a 13 year old.

i'm shocked to say one of the long forgotten hardcore bands at that show recently reformed and released a new album and Pat Byrne played a song off it a few weeks ago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:40pm coelacanth:

my best impression from the 'dead at madison square garden was seeing people gently tumbling down the concrete stairs of the deck i was on,laughing.
- my more experienced friends said "let's get onto the floor" & i followed but quickly lost them. i figured they must've made it so i made my way past the goons then couldn't see the stage past all the tall people.
...i found my friends outside afterward. they got kicked out on their second attempt at the floor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:41pm Ike:

@Jake@10:25, believe it or not, I still think that's (mostly) a pretty good record. Except for "Russians," obviously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:41pm coelacanth:

steve, what band?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 10:41pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My first show was April Wine with Quarterflash opening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 10:43pm steve:

the band was Rest Assured? (yes with a question mark on the end)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:43pm Daniel Blumin:

Liz! Thanks you fer the kind words!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:44pm coelacanth:

-not familiar. i saw lots of punk/hardcore bands in the 80s- i had to ask.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:44pm JakeGould:

@Ike: I can agree with that. Growing up in deep Brooklyn there were no real easy DIY or punk shows to go to. The closest thing to “grassroots” were the metalheads who went to L'Amour around Dyker Heights. It was kind of cool to go to a local record store and see signs saying that Iron Maiden were going to be signing things at Zig Zag Records on Avenue U and it wasn’t a big deal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 10:46pm steve:

now im digging through their facebook and see that last year they did a show with Citizen Blast Cane, of "Sandwich Time" fame! everythings comin together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:46pm coelacanth:

i Dig this GAM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:47pm coelacanth:

i'll check em out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:47pm Ike:

My first concert without adults was probably Lollapalooza '92. Lush was great, the best band there, and first up. I wish they'd played longer. Pearl Jam was good for what it was. Jesus & Mary Chain and Ministry, I can't even remember and I wasn't even on drugs, so they must've been kind of disappointing. Ice Cube was awful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 10:47pm steve:

ah, this was 90s coelacanth
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 10:47pm Jack Mello:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 10:49pm steve:

wow that's amazing Jack!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 10:51pm Jack Mello:

second show was alice cooper, great but gave me a headache.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:52pm coelacanth:

i was on a different planet in the 90s. though i did catch some punk in the city c.'97.
...i'll check this out:wfmu.org... (Pat Byrne)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:53pm coelacanth:

i think Jack wins!
Avatar Fri. 7/24/15 10:53pm Mr. Fish:

My second show was Ozzy and one of the kids we were with ended up handing out flyers with the christian protesters. Was like they brainwashed him instantly. we dragged him away and teased him mercilessly for years. I doubt he's ever been in a church since.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:56pm coelacanth:

do not remember my 2nd. 'might've been the Who at the spectrum. it was so loud it hurt instantly and continued to hurt until a few days later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:57pm JakeGould:

@JackMello: You win. Prime Queen and Thin Lizzy? Amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:57pm Daniel Blumin:

As per last week me first unaccompanied show was the Cars and Wang Chung. Regarding Wang Chung I remember everyone getting into Dancehall Days and then talking during the "deep cuts". Then the Cars came out and considering how all over MTV and radio they were at the time I thought Ric Ocasek's deadpan persona was surreal as he was singing these massive hits...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 10:57pm coelacanth:

steve if it weren't for the decade time difference we would've seen lots of the same bands!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 11:01pm coelacanth:

i'm surprised i never got dragged to a cars' show.
...i wish i had been!

...and yeah Daniel, that would annoy the hell outa me...it's better now,i imagine. they'd just be texting quietly during the deep cuts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/24/15 11:02pm steve:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 11:17pm coelacanth:

Someone should just start a blog or even curate Wikipedia entries on the NJ scene. Do DIY in the 21st century.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/24/15 11:26pm coelacanth:
