  9:13pm JakeGould:

I need a little Rooty Tooty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Irene Trudel:

Avatar 9:16pm Monica:

hello irene and pk! gettin' my enjoys right here and now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Monica! Great to have you here.
  9:22pm JSG:

Thanks for this. So far so awesome.
  9:36pm JakeGould:

FWIW, I can’t stop looking at the flashlight on that control console. The hands-on IT tech in me pictures a lot of “What the heck broke now?” moments with that hunk of plastic.
Avatar 9:37pm bobdoesthings:

hey yo bros - sup?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Irene Trudel:

You know it, Jake! In every radio studio I've worked in there's a flashlight for those moments too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm fleep:

Jazz applause is so darn cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Irene Trudel:

By the way, Happy Birthday to Matt from Springfield! (I'll get to your request next week, Matt.)
Avatar 🥁 9:57pm KP:

This Hutchinson is pretty amazing
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks for this show, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Irene Trudel:

KP, Bobby's best playing sounds like birds wings fluttering. Love his playing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Gaylord Fields:

What Monica said. (In truth, whatever Monica says.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Irwin:

This is a more extensive tribute to Orrin Keepnews than the one that aired on WFMU a month ago. wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Irene! :)
Great show so far, Mongo Santamaria is a cool sound, and a cool name!
Avatar 🥁 10:10pm KP:

Was just listening to this on long drive Sunday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Henry & Gaylord. And thanks Irwin for at least acknowledging Orrin on your program.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Irwin:

"At least"? Peter wrote that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Irene Trudel:

No, I control the comments here! I didn't have the time to look at your playlist in depth. I'm kinda in the middle of something at the moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Irwin:

I must have 30 OK-produced CDs and LPs in my collection, but I figured that soon enough you and Peter would do a better retrospective. I was right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Gaylord Fields:

I played that very same Mongo 45 during a DJ gig at Teddy's Bar & Grill in Williamsburg just two weeks ago! (And that is the least I could do!)
  10:16pm JakeGould:

Settle down jazzholes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Irene Trudel:

But of course! We'll barely get to a fraction of it all tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Irwin:

Gaylord, are you on Facebook?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:17pm redkayak:

Evening, all :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Mike East:

I remember Teddy's used to have some great wings...prolly still do.
GREAT show tonight Irene and Peter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Gaylord Fields:

Those were my thoughts as well, Irwin, although I'll certainly keep featuring him as a regular aspect of my programming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey redkayak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Gaylord Fields:

@Irwin: You'll never see me on Facebook! That's for fools!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Matt from Springfield:

@Gaylord: Fools like the man who discovered: that FB limits the number of times you're allowed to change your birthdate ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: Don't make me sic Bebop Dracula on you.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:23pm redkayak:

@Matt - Howdy!
  10:30pm KP:

I heard Irwin's tribute at the time and enjoyed it. Moving stuff
  10:30pm JakeGould:

@GaylordFields: I’m trying to think of a jazz joke with garlic in it, but drawing a blank. So at least you know what my retort might have been.
  10:30pm jon:

my wife and i keep using the expression life affirming to describe the ok playlist tonite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Matt from Springfield:

Top 10 - nice job!
And written by Herbie: the link between Miles Davis, 70s funk and modern hip hop.
  10:32pm jon:

what a great group of commenters tonite. evening all.
  10:33pm JakeGould:

To be able to wrangle, deal with and produce the talent presented here… That takes a certain kind of mensch. Kudos to Orrin’s legacy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm Matt from Springfield:

Well a "biography" by you guys would be fine, even if it's not "auto"! Go for it!
  10:39pm martha:

Hi, tuned in late... sounds great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm Mike East:

My condolences to you and your family. What a great thing to have so many points of reference to the man's life. Most of us just get family photos and anecdotes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm Irene Trudel:

Yay Martha! Glad you're here. (Martha is Orrin's wife, listening in from California.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm Matt from Springfield:

Hello Martha - glad you're enjoying the tribute!
  10:49pm martha:

Will have to listen from the beginning <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Matt from Springfield:

I should refer my cousin to this episode, he loves Sonny Rollins and jazz of that era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Irwin:

Peter: Did the station at 89.9 do a tribute?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Irene Trudel:

As with all shows, they're archived so you can listen whenever you get the chance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Irene Trudel:

Irwin, I can answer that. We assume they did, but we didn't know for sure. We were in California with him when he passed and for the whole week following. I will mention that KCSM, the wonderful Bay Area Jazz station on 91.1 FM played tributes to Orrin throughout the week, which was very comforting to us. kcsm.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Irwin:

Bring Peter back next week and do Part 2.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm Matt from Springfield:

And Max Roach! What a trio.
Doug Schulkind has also played the "Freedom Suite" during sets with political and civil rights themes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Matt from Springfield:

He's only a critic of "Marxist Jazz"...
  11:05pm KP:

Matt, Martha hi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi KP!
  11:10pm JakeGould:

Fantastic show. For the archives indeed!
Avatar 11:11pm Bryce:

i'm gonna cry now too. thank you so much for doing this. really been looking forward to it.
  11:14pm KP:

This is really nice, moving
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Ahhh, to Fly out of this world, and spend the next eternity or two, with WFMU You!!
  11:24pm martha:

Thank you both <3 Really sweet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Matt from Springfield:

And this! THIS!
Avatar 11:29pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

You know those shows when even your comment on a playlist feels inadequate?
  11:30pm martha:

OK, you're killing me with Wesla
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm Matt from Springfield:

*sheepishly looks down at shoes*
@Pete: Oh yeah..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Irene Trudel:

I'm tearing up Martha, just like when we heard this Wesla tune in the car.
  11:33pm martha:

xoxoxoxox
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:39pm Webhamster Henry:

I just thought I'd mention that Dick Katz was a boyhood friend of my father's in Baltimore.
  11:40pm martha:

BTW, that photo of breakfast cracks me up because I know that Orrin was making his fake smile face!!! - and loved the Mark Murphy. Jimmy <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm Irene Trudel:

Henry, that is so amazing, also considering that Dick's son Jamie and Peter both went to high school together. That's kind of how Orrin and Dick met.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm Irene Trudel:

I know, Martha. You kind of said to Orrin, "can't you just smile for the camera?!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm Matt from Springfield:

ANAGRAM dedication! Now that's heavy! :)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:43pm Webhamster Henry:

Irene, the world is smaller when you're playing jazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Irwin:

The tribute continues on my program tomorrow with Wynton Kelly and Blue Mitchell.
  11:54pm Andrew:

Quite a show. Don't be shy about a follow-up show with more when you are up to it.
  11:55pm P-90:

I'll add my vote for a Part II, if not next week, then soon. And thanks, Martha, for the tipoff on the fake smiley face...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks everyone for checking into our little tribute to Orrin. Maybe we'll do another sometime over the summer.
  11:58pm martha:

More!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Santos L Halper:

Thanks for sharing the music and memories of Orrin. Our thoughts are with you two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Irene and Peter! Lovely tribute to Orrin, I enjoyed it, and was glad to learn you had such a brilliant producer in your family!

Have a good night, and keep these memories playing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Gaylord Fields:

Thank you, Irene and Peter — and especially to Orrin! No more words.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:53am Sean in Bristol UK:

Great show Irene and Peter, a wonderful tribute to Orrin.
