A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

anyone listen to morrissey's album streaming on NPR yesterday? pretty decent. the actual music much improved over previous years.

Hello Trouble - hello all - I am grateful and a bit shocked for the Gil Melle tune Trouble; last week I had 'Gears' in my head, but couldn't remember the title or the artist - I have it on a Blue Note Compilation from the 80s, but all my vinyl is locked away alas. Thank you so much for playing it and putting me out my misery!!! Serendipity or co-incidence? Qui Sais as the French say...Amazing: )

Good Morning Trouble and listeners, lovely sunny morning on the left coast, beautiful palette in the playlist art this morning. Just tuning in but wanted to say that if you haven't listened to Duane's Bobby Womack tribute show last week....it's excellent!
Avatar 10:09am ghostofpeterfalk:

Is it Anthony Newley or the rather more wonderful Robert Stephens Trouble?
Avatar 10:12am kwhitehead:

Peter in Seattle is correct, Duane's Bobby Womack tribute is/was spectacular. Also, anyone else watching The Leftovers on HBO? That's some dark stuff.

i think the hobby lobby ruling has to do with the massive disrespect our leaders have for the workforce, as well as disrespect for women. we're both lucky to have jobs AND so many are clearly available so we can go gallivanting off to an employer that fits our views to a T

Avatar 11:18am ghostofpeterfalk:

Wow. I can't believe Trouble's info spot could become so divisive among her listeners. Perhaps it's my ignorance as a UK listener, but I just thought it was interesting and educational. I can't imagine such a reaction in the UK; especially when Trouble is about the best 3 hours of radio I hear a week!!

Avatar 11:33am bobdoesthings:

for me... personally.. I agree with trouble 95% of the time when she voices her opinions.. however 100% of the time I think it ruins the fun of wfmu and is not why I listen. It ruins my enjoyment and turns me off.. to the point where I really consider stopping my Tuesday morning ritual (even though I'm all for her viewpoints).. It just feels icky.

I think they were the crates of the right size & sturdiness to stand on, Ken.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am robyn:

especially since i never got the impression there was a lot of soap being used back in the day. maybe it stayed packed up to support the box.

Avatar 11:48am ghostofpeterfalk:

Milk crates probably got reused too much to have any left over to stand on. Soap you basically ship one way, no empties to return.
Avatar 11:49am bobdoesthings:

@Robert. let's not forget about the humble Milk Crate!! Who will speak out and voice their message!? Oh sure... the soapbox gets all the attention. But honestly.. the attitude our society has against milk crates I find disgraceful

Avatar 11:56am Rev. Turnip Druid:

It is a valid observation, though: in the USA, the loud (not necessarily) majority assumes their opinions are the only game in town, and simply the presence of another viewpoint is an attack upon their rights (?!?!) ...

They simply can't share the same room with another opinion. If something offends you, IT is (somehow) the problem and must be legislated out of existence. Etc. I'm sure it is universal, but the polarizing effect is particularly nasty in the states.
