A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Still waiting for my "Seitan Rules" WFMU t-shirt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Guido from Cologne:

why did it need a turn of the century to make gluten such a menace to certain healths? generations of bread and noodle eaters should have been suffering heavy physical disorders.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Guido from Cologne:

Just play it again Jeffrey!
Avatar 10:24am Trouble:

hello faye and shrunken planet! listening in to see which songs you need to play on saturday? i suggest the ronettes. good luck with shirley collins on saturday jeffrey! i hear she's a tuffie
Avatar 10:25am bobdoesthings:

Unless you have celiac disease, the gluten-free thing is a moronic dieting fad.
Avatar 10:25am glenn:

it's not really a gluten intolerance. it's a monsanto intolerance.
Avatar 10:25am βrian:

From what I understand, modern wheat has been extensively hybridized to attain a manufacturing ideal. And the supply has become homogenous, so nobody has any variety in their diet anymore.
Avatar 10:26am d¢ pät:

Hail Seitan.
Avatar 10:28am Rev. Turnip Druid:

I was politely pro-gluten until I had the curry-gluten at aforementioned Malaysian place here, then got radicalized pro-gluten immediately. That's magical stuff. With the chili sauce for extra zap-zap.
Avatar 10:29am d¢ pät:

trying to eat vegan (emphasize TRYING here) gluten/seitan becomes your best friend pretty quickly.
Avatar 10:30am βrian:

It was a Vietnamese dish the first impelled me to gluten gluttony. Slightly sweet and spicy. Couldn't stop eating ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Guido from Cologne:

Thanks ßrian for explaination.
Well many binder/thickening- effects would never work without gluten, right?
What about buckwheat flour?
My favourite for veggie sauce creations.
Avatar 10:32am d¢ pät:

killer set trouble!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Guido from Cologne:

(just broke right now, must take care ..)
  10:32am bill:

Brian I suspect it's the hybridization rather than the homogeneity that's to blame. I mean in the good ol days people ate the same local wheat year after year and didn't have these modern trouble.s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Guido from Cologne:

bruno Leys clicky clicky clicky star!
Avatar 10:34am βrian:

I think buckwheat is safe for the gluten-intolerant. (Not a wheat, exactly) A friend tells me it's what one must eat before doing battle with evil-doers.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Adrian in London:

Hello all. The musician Yann Tiersen is currently doing a big bike ride around Brittany, a tour of record shops for signings and little gigs, all by bike. The films are made by Rapha so are really well done. They're on YouTube: here's the prologue: www.youtube.com...

Yann Tiersen plays an orchestra. But it usually has a lot of accordions.

Mine is, I think, 23 years old now. My former boss claimed it was the heaviest he'd ever encountered. He was over-dramatizing it a bit, but you get the idea. When I stuff the bags on it...I'm stressing and wearin' & tearin' the roads like a trailer truck.
Avatar 11:21am bobdoesthings:

@trouble - thanks, I have an old album Hadden did with Pat Metheny which is pretty great called "beyond the missouri sky"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Adrian in London:

RE: Yann Tiersen, it's mainly a signing tour to plug the new album, Infinity, but he did do a couple of pieces on a piano on the video of yesterday's "stage". He's doing a route in an infinity symbol shape, known as a lemniscate, etymological fact fans!

There was a fake internet trolling story but it brought up a funny point.. basically the fake story picked a famous celebrity and claimed they were suing apple b/c they wanted to pass down their "music collection" to their kids.. but b/c it's all through iTunes they could not legally be handed down.. or something.
Avatar 11:43am d¢ pät:

that whole idea is stupid. If I listen to a Howlin Wolf record, am I a nostalgist?? Ridiculous. Music is music is art is timeless...

Widely acknowledged that, broadly speaking, Upward Mobility - improving your wealth & standing & living conditions - in the U.S. has halted or even reversed.
Avatar 11:44am bobdoesthings:

same thing with phones.. you don't own your phone, you are not allowed to modify it like some tech/computer savvy folks like to modify things..and even though every single apple phone could be hacked into and made into a free wi-fi hotspot with NOTHING extra.. they program your phone so it will ponly work if you pay the company $20/month to have this feature.... YET the phone could do this if you were tech/hacker savvy.. - you lease the phone.

...Never understood people who love Music, but have no interest in where it came from - its' Roots. There's always the experience of telling someone (younger perhaps) that the Artist they are exalting listened to this other earlier Artist - & generating no interest whatsoever...fair enuff, in a way...

...also how can you make the argument that vinyl won't last when...it's still freakin here after all this time???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Andrew Waterloo:

I think the argument is more along the lines of vinyl won't last as a popular thing with an effect on popular music. Because in most circles it simply doesn't matter if it's not popular.

Awesome morning, thanks Trouble!

..so Now - trying to hoard all the Music in the World digitally on external hard drives...but been thru enuff Formats - & suspect it will All be in the mysterious & nondescript 'Cloud' on someone else's server anyhow ! Maybe this 20th Century thing of Collecting was the pathological attitude - not the new one...I'm a Completist w/ a few Artists (Hendrix, &tc.) - otherwise embrace the New & am happy w/ just the Music in whatever Format. (Obviously some things are just Collectible & Valuable.) The question of Right s & remuneration of the Artist - that's another matter...
